17 Chapter 17: Surrounded
A group of a hundred undead approached the terrified citizens. Their bodies were quite stiff but compared to normal humans without any magical powers, each of these undead can kill several people just by themselves
It didn't help the situation that there are only four mages from Kira's team that were stationed here
Cairo stood up and ignored the pain in his back. It was still a lot painful but more tolerable than before. As usual, because of Cairo's desire to continue living, he became pessimistic about the situation. His eyes were looking around him to see if there was a way for him to flee
Screams echoed in the surrounding, bullets of sweat formed in every human not just because of heat but also because of the extreme fear they have
"AAAHHH! NO! I DON'T WANT TO DIE !!" One of the humans shouted and decided to run away but that was a mistake that will cost him his life
One of the undead opened its mouth and shot a cloud of miasma at that human. The human was oblivious to that and it hits him in the back
The human's back started rotting and he soon fell to the ground, devoid of any life
Cairo's heart trembled at that. He can't let himself be hit by that miasma!
"Everyone! Please calm down. Don't run on your own!" Jeremy shouted and the civilians didn't dare make any move again. They saw what happened to the human that tried to run and they do not want the same thing to happen to themselves
The undead walks towards the humans when some of them stepped on an invisible rune. When the undead made physical contact with those runes, their bodies were immediately set on fire
Jeremy walks towards the three mages with him and draws runes in their bodies. Their magical power immediately soared because of the runes and they started killing the undead
"For all those that can use magic, please help us! All our lives depend on this!" Jeremy shouted again and some people had an internal dilemma. If they fight, there's a chance that they will die. However, if they don't join in the fight, the four mages might be defeated and that will also cause their deaths
Without a choice, some of the civilians stepped out and used their own magic to kill the undead
Several people controlled the ever so abundant sands and it killed the undead. There are also some non-mages people that joined in the fight and brandished all sorts of weapons
Cairo watched on the side to preserve his strength. With his severe injuries, he can use it as an excuse not to fight with them when in reality he just doesn't want to use any of his mana in case that he will need it to save his own life
"Ohooo, how interesting" A voice entered everyone's ears and a human came out from the group of undead
"Who are you?" Jeremy asked aggressively. It was already hard fighting this much enemy with few mages and what he least wants the most is an unknown variable that will negatively affect him and the citizens
"I'm Ken, a direct subordinate of one of the Elders in Savage Sand Gang here to kill all of you!" After saying that, several blades floated around Ken and he threw them towards the humans
"[Rune Magic: Attack-seeking Rune!]" Jeremy speedily moved his fingers that were coated with mana and draws runes in the air and he activated it
The runes flew by themselves and wrapped in the blades that were thrown by Ken. The blades were repulsed by the runes and they changed directions, no humans were harm because of Jeremy
Ken just looked coldly at Jeremy before another group of blades appeared around him. This time, the blades were covered with lightning, and Ken threw them on the normal humans again
Jeremy would surely help the humans and it would be fatal for him to do that
Just like what Ken expected, Jeremy made runes to protect the humans but it left himself defenseless
Some of the undead shot their cloud of miasma towards Jeremy and things became dangerous for him
Cairo that was watching the situation of the four mages from Kira's team saw this. He focuses on the four as they are the strongest among all of his 'allies' around and Cairo can't let any of them die. They should at least kill a lot of undead so that Cairo has the chance to flee
Cairo sneakily controlled the sands in front of Jeremy and it protected the man. Cairo's sands turned black in color when the miasma hits them, it wasn't enough to fully protect Jeremy but it was enough!
The kid's actions gave Jeremy enough time to defend himself. The man controlled the sands below him and it moved his body away
Cairo heaved a sigh of relief. Fortunately, he wasn't that far from Jeremy, if not, the man might have really died
Ken clicked his tongue in annoyance and surveyed all the mages fighting his undead to see who helped his enemy. However, he saw that all mages are busy. With the battlefield being chaotic that have several magic fluctuations, it was hard to pinpoint the exact location of a person that performed a specific magic
"[Blade Magic: Extreme Cut!]" Two blades appeared in Ken's hands and it was covered with a thin but sharp layer of mana
The man jumped high in the air and charged in Jeremy's direction that was the strongest among all the humans around
"[Fire Magic: Fire Breath!]" Jeremy opened his mouth and tongues of flames came out of it
Ken was surprised and immediately covered his body with a layer of mana to protect himself but the fire still forced him a few meters away
For the second time, Cairo decided to meddle in the fight and controlled some of the sands below Ken so that the man will lose his balance
Jeremy saw that and decided to seize the chance. A rune glowed in his palm as he charged at Ken's directions
However, the undead around won't let Jeremy do what he wants easily. Some of the undead fired their black miasma towards the man while some dash at his position to use their sharp claws to scratch his body
"[Beast Magic: Cat Transformation!]" One of the mages in Kira's team had a transformation and she now looks like a cat. The mage's speed exploded and she used her fast speed to kick away some of the undead attacking Jeremy
"[Water Magic: Water Snakes!]" Another one of the mages made snakes made from water and they coiled around the undead's body that prevented them from moving
"[Fire Magic: Fireballs!]" The last one made several small balls of fire and they canceled out the miasma that came from the undead
With the help of his team, Jeremy reached an area only a few meters away from Ken and the rune in his hand glowed more intensely than before
Too bad that the man named Ken is also not someone to be underestimated, his power is only below that of an Elder
"[Shadow Magic: Black Fog!]" A black fog spread around from Ken's body and Jeremy loses his target. The fog can also mask Ken's magic fluctuations as long as he doesn't use any other magic aside from it
Jeremy frowned before the rune in his palm changed shape and he slammed it on the ground
The rune controlled the sands around it and a small sand tsunami appeared that entered the black fogs in the front
Ken doesn't have a choice but to use his magical power to prevent the sands from harming him and Jeremy finally sensed magic fluctuations
"[Fire Magic: Burning Birds!]" Jeremy waved his hand and five crimson red birds made from fire formed and it flew towards the location of the magic fluctuations
Ken was forced again and he controlled the sands around to block for him while moving his body away
The black fog vanished and Ken's figure entered everyone's eyes. Too bad that he hid behind the undead
The undead's numbers lessened but the same was true for the humans fighting it. The humans are already outnumbered and because Jeremy and the others focus on one enemy, more humans had died
Jeremy controlled the sands below him for the nth time and dodged the long-range attacks from the undead
"I'll make an escape route, some of you please call for reinforcements!" Jeremy shouted to the normal humans. These humans might run away on their own but Jeremy can only take this risk
If not for the seal lowering all of his attributes a lot, he wouldn't be in this situation. Too bad that he can only rely on the normal humans now
Jeremy was covered with his other teammates and they made sure that he won't be attacked while he draws several runes in the air
The man poured a lot of mana in his runes but Ken's attack became frenzied, he won't let Jeremy do what he wants. However, the earlier mistake of Ken made him cautious and he doesn't want to fight the enemies in close combat again. Thus, Ken can only resort to using long-range attacks
