23 Outcasts.

When Harry Potter entered Slytherin, everyone including the professors were certain about one thing. Harry wasn't going to fit in with the Slytherins and he might be an outcast there. But the reality seemed to be different as Harry was treading well in Slytherin, though there would be some bickering here and there between him and the others, he had at least managed to make some friends.

But now the concerning matter shifted towards, Miles Rakepick and Hermione Granger, two who seemed to be outcasted from their own houses, especially by their own peers from the same year. Professor Flitwick was the first to notice the difference, looking at the behavior of the Ravenclaw students who seemed to separate Hermione from their activities.

Hermione's bossy know it all attitude was thought to be the cause of it at first glance since it seemed to be the only flaw she had but in depth, it was much different than how anyone would imagine it to be as it was more of a fault on the Ravenclaw side than Hermione's own flaw.

For a house that consisted of curious and intelligent young wizards and witches who tended to put knowledge above everything else, someone like Hermione wasn't rare. But what rare was that the person with such attitude being actually capable of doing all the stuff they talked about. Such things resulted in the increasing inferiority complex among the Ravenclaws, quickly making Granger an outcast from her own house. Luckily some of the older students didn't seem to have a problem with it at all and seemed to like and respect her because of it. Flitwick only hoped that the other students would grow mature enough to accept their own flaws than blame it on others.

The other person suffering from the same thing was Miles Rakepick. Professor McGonagall quickly recognized the calm, arrogant and lack of attention towards any rules, behavior Miles carried to be the same qualities as his mother. Though someone like that wasn't a rarity in Gryffindor the house known for its students having disregard for the rules, Rakepick's calm and cunning behavior was unique than the rest.

With Professor Snape's constant attack on him, the strain in the relationship between him and the other students was already weak. And the fact that the other party stood around like a proud peacock, never accepting his faults and even going as far as to have fights with the older students about losing house-points was enough to make him stand much different from the rest. But, the end of the line was his relationship with the Slytherin students. A place where he seemed to fit in the most and had a lot of other friends he got along with.

Professor McGonagall and Flitwick shared their concerns with one another but luckily at least the two of them seem to be friends, so they at least knew the other party wouldn't end up lonely especially considering the strong personality both of the carried. Both of them weren't the type to leave their friendship with one another because of minor things.

―==(oIo)==―

Today was a really lazy Sunday. Miles and Hermione sat by the school lake under the tree sharing notes with one another.

"How do you do it so quickly?"

"It's all about feelings." Miles explained as he turned the nearby snail's shell to a copper one, "First thing you have to understand is the elements. What element the object has and what element do you want to change it into. While most of it depends on their hardness and softness, for things like metals you need to go in more depth about it.

"Then it comes to the second part, Living things. Whether you're turning living things into a non-living one or the opposite way around. The first one is much simpler than you think but changing a non-living item into a living one is incredibly hard."

"It all depends on how much you know about the creature you're turning your object into and not only that, you have to also know why and how the body of the creature moves and lives. How it stays alive, how it breathes etc."

"So according to that, as longs as I want, I can turn a table into a pig with gills that can swim and live underwater, right?" Hermione asked getting more and more interested in the topic.

"Exactly." Miles nodded, "That's what the normal theory we study misses, for people transfiguration is turning one thing to another. So a pig with gills is considered a fail in what we read in books but in reality, it is still a success, in fact even more so than a normal pig."

Hermione nodded as she wrote the things down.

"The next thing, that comes after that is the law about mass." Miles said, "This one is easy to understand, as it just means that you can't transform a small thing into a big one. For example, you can't turn a butterfly into a dog but you can turn a dog to different butterflies but not a single one."

"But didn't professor turned a table to a pig, I mean a pig is much heavier than the table she turned the pig into, unless..."

"You got it!" Miles nodded, "The pig was exactly the same weight as the table, to be more precise the pig was probably hollow inside."

"All of it is quite similar to Gamp's Law of Elemental Transfiguration, then?"

"Yes, but the law misses out on many things including how hard it is to transfigure heavier objects," Miles said as he took something out of his pocket.

Hermione looked closely at the different insects and animals that were made from clay, there was a spider, a butterfly, a rat and then a small bird.

"You see it is much easier to transfigure objects that share the same properties or appearance than another object," Miles said as he tapped his wand around the rat, as the rat came to life and started moving around. "With this, all I need to think about is how the rat moves and lives, and not care much about the appearance of the object."

"So if there is a statue of a Dragon lets say can you bring it to life?"

"I can't but I have seen it before." Miles said, "There was a treasure cave me and mom once visited, the place had a huge giant dragon statue and the treasure right in front of it. We had expected something will happen but we never expected the statue to come to life when we took the treasure."

"How did you survive that?"

"The whole dragon was powered by a magical rune, which my mom quickly found out about and the moment she destroyed the lining of the rune the dragon turned back to a stone crashing down onto us." Miles said, "That brings us to another topic, how much magical power is need-"

"Miles!"

Harry and Draco came running towards them interrupting Miles midway through.

"What is it?" Miles asked getting a bit annoyed due to their sudden interruption.

"You won't believe what's on the third floor." Both of them said at the same time.

"You two went to the forbidden area?" Hermione said with a strict tone but both didn't seem to care about that at all.

"First of all, calm down you two," Miles said finally relieved that Harry had come across it with how things were going he doubted whether he should interfere or not but looking at it he didn't need to, "Now tell me, what happened?"

Also, Patricia X MC won't happen. I know they aren't blood-related but no one dates someone they raised ever since they were babies unless they are some sort of creep. Both of them love one another as son and mother and nothing more than that.

I don't know if it is some sort of joke my un-Alabama side doesn't understand but I just wanted to clarify it before people get upset in the future about it.
