Kill the Noise

Nimble footsteps marked the floors of the A.X.A. facility halls from six subjects that ran with nothing but escape on their minds.

"Requesting extra Angel Unit backup to be sent to the Garden. The recent batch sent in has already been eradicated," the speakers announced. "Also requesting immediate support from Overseer Azrael, as subject Reed Regardius has supposedly shown no signs of stopping."

Suddenly, the group came to a halt at the end of a hall. The one leading them, Midas, spoke up;

"Right around this corner's the communication room, and it's obvious that Overseer Gabriel's still in there making the announcements. We're gonna have to subdue him, and disable communications before we properly break out."

"Kill him, you mean." Venus dead-eyed.

Midas turned to him; "No, subdue him. We don't need to kill him."

"But what if we can't properly 'subdue' him? The only way to prevent him from getting in our way at that point is to kill him, so why not just do that first?"

Midas sighed frustratedly. "We WILL subdue him Venus. Have some faith in your colleagues," he faced the others. "There's already a plan set in place anyways, and everyone knows what they're doing, right?"

Venus rolled his eyes, but the rest nodded in agreement.

"Great, let's proceed then."

The group dashed around the corner, approaching the communications room head-on.

"We won't have to worry about any Angel or Seraphim Units guarding the room inside or outside, they've all been sent to the Garden. It's just Overseer Gabriel we'll have to overcome!" Midas called out.

They ran up towards the room's entry-door, noticing that there was no handle or knob found on it.

"Just like the testing chamber doors; they're lock-engaged." Midas scaled its surface. He turned to the group behind him; "Is everyone ready?"

Everyone gestured in agreement. "Good," Midas said. He turned to Venus, and nodded.

Venus nodded back, and aimed his palms towards the door. He clenched his hands, and sent an instantaneous gust of energy towards the door.

Bang!

The entry was brutally blown open.

"GO! GO! GO!" Midas yelled.

Vidia swiftly entered the room upon the explosion. She quickly scanned the room, attempting to find her given target; Overseer Gabriel.

"You'll be the first to engage," Midas had told her. The recent memory continued to speak; "Your ability can turn the tides of the fight from the start, as long as you use it properly. Immediately engage eye contact with Overseer Gabriel to blind him. If we can do that firsthand, he'll be handicapped with blind eyes, and we'll have won a fight that won't even need to occur. Then, we can easily subdue him."

Vidia recognized the idea's potential, and understood her responsibility.

"I'll do it…" She told herself.

Suddenly, she spotted a shadow among the fog.

"There—!" Vidia dashed forward. Clearing the smoke, she met the gaze of a tall, dark-haired male.

"You're not supposed to be here," he said with quiet irritation. The irritation brought about fuel to burst his wings open.

Vidia immediately panicked with the sight, understanding she was now in danger.

Suddenly, the air in the room collapsed. Overseer Gabriel gasped for air, realizing that his energy had dimmed and his wings had gone limp. He then noticed a male figure who came to stand by Vidia. It was Midas, who'd clenched his palm into a fist; feeling a sense of rejuvenation from the act.

"I've absorbed his emotional drive, so you won't have to worry about any attacks from his wings," Midas pointed. "Go get him."

Encouraged, Vidia turned back towards the Overseer and seized her opportunity. She gazed into his eyes, enabling her ability as she did so.

"Wha—" Gabriel felt his eyes shallow. They began to blur until all he could see were circles and lines.

Vidia continued to stare forth, never blinking once. Her eyes began to dry, but she felt driven to maintain her abyssal stare.

Gabriel's pupils started to visibly cloud, bringing about a lighted gray color.

He was going blind.

"You… experimentees…" He was stupefied by his changing sight; "You've all been… amplified… too much…" And his neck slowly tensed; "Curse… all of you!—"

His face was smashed into the floor. "Get his hands!" Midas called out.

To Overseer Gabriel, this was just a bunch of voices that echoed through the dark void he could now only see. His arms were suddenly pinned to his back.

"Keep him still," Midas told Venus.

"H-How are you subjects able to… use… your abilities…" Gabriel's voice faded.

"It was planned." Midas laughed, "Not like you'll remember anyways." He waved Ian over.

Ian walked up, initiating his own ability on the Overseer;

"Sleep," he'd commanded.

"Huhhwhhuhhh…" Gabriel dozed off.

"Good, now the last step," Midas looked at Gian-Luca. "Let's take the extra precaution and wipe his memories of anything that happened in the last five minutes."

Gian-Luca then came over. He placed his palm against the Overseer's forehead, initiating the absorbing trait his hands bore.

Any memories Gabriel made over the last few minutes were now completely eradicated by Gian-Luca, joining the void that he currently saw.

"And that's a wrap," Midas wiped his hands. He looked down at the unconscious Gabriel; "We've successfully subdued Overseer Gabriel, and let's hope he's the last Overseer we come across."

Venus scoffed, "He won't be."

Midas eyed him with seriousness, but disregarded the statement. Recalling the reason they'd breached the room in the first place, he walked over to the general control panel. Observing the numerous buttons and switches, he recognized the right one to disable; it was a mini lever that he pulled downwards.

The speakers in the room started to emit a fading buzz, indicating that it was turning off.

"Let's kill the noise. No more contacting Overseer Michael, and no more calling in Angel reinforcements," he powered down the entire panel. The speakers spat its final static sounds, and it was then officially disabled.

"Now that we've got the waves of Angels and Seraphim out of the way, we can leave with ease," Midas told everyone. Though in his mind, the final statement wavered. He recalled that right before they'd arrived to the communications room, Overseer Gabriel had made one final call;

"...Also requesting immediate support from Overseer Azrael, as subject Reed Regardius has supposedly shown no signs of stopping..."

The thought unnerved Midas. He understood the increased danger that came with the now present presence of the Angel of Death.

Welcome, to Breaking Point.
