2 Have I Ever Told You That I Love You?

Apart from the usual disagreements and other dividend sharing percentage problems, the meeting ended peacefully making majority of the shareholders in awe of their young acting president while the other family members gritted their teeth and cursing at her deep inside their hearts. Jane then gave everyone the signature smile she often used when negotiating and exchanged pleasantries with the other shareholders.

The young woman truly was exceptional. She's decisive and is every bit deserving of the position the Smith family entrusted to her. The venture plans she presented were all promising too.

On top of being a tall, beautiful and attractive woman, she was also quite friendly and can hold her own in conversations regarding just about everything because she knows a lot. No wonder people call her the amazing Jane.

Although she never really made anyone feel awkward in her presence. She isn't close to anyone either making lots of shareholders who brought their sons along with them full of hope while introducing them to her praying at least one gets her attention.

It was just too bad she has a slim chance of inheriting the Smith conglomerate. No matter how exceptional she was, she's still an illegitimate child but that doesn't really stop them from wanting her for their sons. They could just simply snatch this treasure from the Smiths and with her smarts, they'll probably prosper with her.

As Jane was again the center of attention, her siblings were getting more frustrated at the side. Nobody was neglecting them as they were from the direct line in the Smith family but they know deep inside nobody was really paying attention to any of them, making Judy scowl at her.

"Jude, you just wait when James comes back from the UK and that hateful child of the slut will be out of the company in no time." Jimmy coaxing her younger sister at his side.

"I just hate how she's always the one getting all the attention, she doesn't even look like us! Who among the Smiths has blue eyes like that?! She's clearly not my sister."

The Smith couple both had brown eyes and no one from their other relatives had blue eyes either and that made it painfully obvious how different Jane was from the rest of them as she inherited her mother's gorgeous blue eyes making it look like they suck out your soul once she looks at you. This set of beautiful eyes was also one of the causes of envy of the other daughters in the family ever since she was young.

"Can't you just wait for Julia's plan? Dad's already informed of what happened this morning and you better be thankful that wench still listens to the elders and has already asked to drop charges." Jessica impatiently told their youngest sister as she looked at her irritatingly.

This sister of theirs is truly too dumb out of the five of them, Judy really is the dumbest and useless. She doesn't even realize doing useless stuff as kidnapping and hurting their half-sister when an important meeting like this happens would only make people suspicious of them. She really ought to learn from their eldest one, Julia.

"That bitch will have to die sooner anyways." Judy rolled her eyes, wanting to shift the conversation to something else.

Not long after the banquet, Jane was reading some documents on the table in her hotel room when she received a call from Lucy, her other secretary, that the police has already dropped all investigations for her kidnapping this morning and that the family doctor is on their way to her room to check on her wounds.

She then checked the time and frowned. It was already 3pm. She was starting to feel hungry when Mia entered the room holding a box of chocolate cake which successfully made her drop everything she's doing and looked at her secretary like she was a god.

Mia chuckled. "I figured you'd be hungry so I got you your favorite cake."

"Have I ever told you that I love you?" she said as Mia prepared everything for her and sliced the cake, gave her a fork as Jane started gobbling on it leaving behind a bit of chocolate on the corner of her cherry colored lips. The sight making her look like a sweet innocent little girl, effectively activating Mia's maternal heart.

No matter how many times she saw the usually calm boss of hers eat sloppily whenever she gave anything that has chocolate in it, she looks so adorable that you can't help but have a feeling that she must be protected, which was weird because Jane clearly dressed the part of a smart and attractive businesswoman yet that feeling never fades especially when she looked at her big blue eyes glistening at the chocolate cake.

As she was secretly taking a picture and gushing over how cute her boss looked, Jane asked her about the things she ordered her to do.

Mia then gently cleaned up the corners of her lips with a napkin. "The investigation regarding police officer Samuel Fields have concluded. He was reported to have repeatedly been in contact with your eldest sister over the course of the year. Their point of contact was said to be motels, clubs and Ms. Julia's private yacht. Those were all places you were least likely to go in the city, probably with the intention to hide this ordeal from you as it is known that the police officer is your childhood friend. All information regarding their relationship has already been sent to your mail and I'm keeping a copy with me as well."

She looked at her boss warily. She didn't know if this one had feelings for Mr. Fields but the guy was her only closest friend. He was also the only guy she knew that could make her boss laugh although she's sure most of them were fake ones but nevertheless, she intended to keep pretenses with him which was saying a lot because Jane Smith never likes to keep pretenses unless she needed them.

Jane, oblivious to what her secretary was thinking, was happily eating her cake as she listened, clearly satisfied that the flavor of the cake was just right.

"Mhm just be sure to delete the copy in your mail and get rid of any paper trail too, okay?" she looked at Mia again making her secretary feeling warm inside as she was happy her boss was happy. She also felt relieved as it seemed like the boss didn't really take the man into her heart.

After a few mouthfuls and a few wipes from Mia, Jane suddenly looked up at her and asked, "Then about my mother?"

Mia felt her heart stop with this question. She shifted her gaze and continued to clean her up. "The leads are still a bit messy. The one thing we're sure about is that it's related to your eldest sister and eldest brother. We're still finding the records from the hospital. It would be a bit tricky since sir James is in charge of the family hospital you're mother was confined to."

Jane stopped eating and felt that she lost her appetite. "Wrap up the cake. I'll finish them when I get back home as I'm quite tired today. Oh and call Andrew. Tell him we're leaving after Dr. Luke comes here."

She then stood up, went to bed and for the first time since the day started, she finally gave herself a break.
