Chapter 1: Dinner plans

The alarm went off, waking up Maya. She got up and went for a run. It was not her usual morning routine, but she felt like she had a rough day up ahead. She needed to be prepared for it.

Maya Brown is a twenty one year old woman with chocolate brown hair, sky blue eyes, not slim and yet not fat, one-six meters of length currently working as medical researcher at BROWN'S PHARMACEUTICALS She lives with her father Lucas Brown, the current chairman of BROWN'S PHARMACEUTICALS, the tenth leading company in Australia, and her mother, Avery Brown. Their fa.ily had started as mid rich but went up quickly in the richest society due to her father's hard work with the company in just ten years.

After her run, Maya took a shower, wore a mid thight white dress, and went down for breakfast with her parents." Morning dad and mom"

"Morning sweetheart, breakfast is ready,"

"How do you feel, honey?" Her mother asked.

"Am fine, just a headache, but it will pass soon,"

"Your mother is concerned about you,"

"I know, dad, and I promise it won't happen again."

The day before Mark, Maya's ex-boyfriend and Lucy who was supposed to be one of her friend's announced their marriage that would take part three months later, which ruined her mood, 3ven though she tried so hard to forget about it.

Mark had cheated on her with her friend after five years of dating, and that left her broken as she had loved him dearly. she had caught them kissing and ridiculing her in his office about ten months ago. At that time, she felt so heartbroken, but now that was in the past. She had thought about it carefully. ddecided that she would forget him and start a new chapter, and she would, she was not one to cling onto someone shamelessly.

The LARSON GROUP was in chaos. The new president was to arrive in 30 min, and all upper management employees were supposed to go greet him at the lobby.

Four rangerovers parked in front of The LARSON GROUP, ten men in black got off the first, the third and fourth cars as they stand beside the second car.

Another got off the co-pilot seat of the second car to open the back door, from where a handsome, one- eighty meters in height with jet black hair, forest green eyes and thin lips in his mid twenties got off...Kai Larson.

The directors were astonished by the man's aura forgetting for a second to greet him.

"Welcome, Mr. Larson" They greeted him after coming out of their reverie.

Kai passed by them and went in the private elevator, followed by his personal assistant, Oliver Branson, and two bodyguards up to the fiftieth floor where the meeting was supposed to be held.

The chairman, Waylon Larson, was already waiting for the arrival of his son, and he got up to greet him as they had not seen each other for three years.

"Kai, finally you are back. Now, after this, I can go into retirement without worrying and travelling around the world with your mother. "

" Nice to see you too, dad," the son-father duo hugged for a while.

After the meeting, Kai went to his office on the sixtieth floor, followed by his father, who claimed to have good news for him.

"Tonight, we have dinner plans with the Brown's family at seven. Don't be late. "

"Which Brown's family?"

"My old friend from the military. They once visited our home years back with their little girl. Now she is a grown-up lady. "

At that, Kai remembered the chubby little girl that once visited them with her parents. He had thought she was cute with those piggy tails of hers.

"I will still be working," Kai responded, flipping through the documents on his desk.

"You can't get out of this one. Your mother is expecting you there. "

*Sigh* "Fine, I'll be there,"

A BMW parked in front of The HUDSON Hotel and Kai got out on the phone.

" Bro, let's meet up at my club, I'll call the others too." his friend Aiden was on the other side...

" I can't, There are family dinner plans I have to attend. I will pass by tomorrow. "

" What kind of dinner plans are you making time for?"

"I don't know, some Brown's family will be there with us, and mom insisted that I be present,"

"The Brown's family?"

"Yes, something like that. Apparently, the old man served with my dad in the military. You know about them?"

"Of course, they own a pharmaceutical company. Just two years ago, some stupid cheated on their daughter with her friend, who happens to be the rising actress Lucy Mitchell. Apparently, he didn't know she was a rich heiress, so he dumped her and went for the chic. One of their colleagues exposed the scandal after Lucy's debut, and it caused an uproar in the entire city. "

"Oh, that's messed up."

"Yeah. And just yesterday, the dude announced his marriage to Lucy, which will happen in three months. "

" How do you even know this much?"

"Bro, I am not like you who has no fun in life. I was also planning to sing Lucy with my company but figured she attracted trouble. Anyway, I am gonna leave you up to your plans. Bye"

Kai reached the private room, and the waiter opened the door for him.

From inside the room came laughter as the old men talked to each other.

"Good evening." Kai's mother got up at the greeting of her son and hugged him.

"I missed you darling, you have grown up so much,"

"I missed you too, mom,"

"Come, let me introduce you,"

Kai's mother took him near the table where a girl was already standing to greet him, and that's when he noticed her.

"Hi," the girl said with a small side that made her cute dimples show.

"Hi," Kai replied in a sexy husky voice.

"Maya Brown," the girl offered her hand for a hand shake, which Kai took.

"Kai Larson, nice to meet you,"

"OK, you sit next to each other,"Kai's mother told them.

Kai looked at his mother, clearly seeing through her intentions. She was using every chance she got to hook Him up with girls.

His mother returned his gaze, clearly warning him not to go against her.

Maya and Kai ate silently as they listened to the old generation go through their old days, and after a moment, they turned to look at them,

"So, how is she?" Kai raised an eyebrow. He could guess where his father was going

"We were hoping that you could get together. It would be great if our family joined through marriage."

Maya was dumbfounded while Kai said there silently. "

"No need to feel pressured. You can get to know each other in the following months and maybe get married next year after all you are not getting any younger," Kai's mother added.

"What do you m...."

"Fine" before maya could finish Kai spoke, and all eyes turned to him.

"We will tell you the final decision in a month,"

Maya couldn't get a word a word out and just stared at Kai. Kai took out a business card and handed it to Maya and got up, "Excuse me, I am going back to rest. I have an important meeting tomorrow, " and he was gone.

Maya came out of her reverie at that moment and stared at the black card on the table.. Kai LARSON....CEO OF THE LARSON GROUP.. a string of numbers that had to be his contact number followed.

"That's a first," Maeve , Kai's mother, said after a while

"Indeed, I thought he was going to be difficult again. I guess he already likes you, Maya. " Waylon Larson, Kai's father replied.

Maya just gave an awkward smile, and the parents continued their conversation

The morning after, the news was talking about the changes that happened in The LARSON GROUP with the takeover of Kai Larson. Even with such huge news, there was only a back photo of him. It was hard getting a clear photo of him.

In the Brown's mansion, Maya went down to the dining room to eat breakfast, and since her parents had already eaten, she was alone at the table with the maids placing several dishes on the table.

After breakfast, she went to bid her mother goodbye, and before she could get into her car, the butler came out of the mansion.."Ms. Brown, wait, your mother told me to remind you about your brothers flight today. You should pick him up at 4 pm, please don't forget"

"OK, I won't. Have a nice day, " She replied with her cute smile.

"Have a nice day, too," the butler replied, smiling at her.

Maya got into her car and drove off to work.

On the outskirts of the city in a peaceful neighbourhood, there stood a magnificent mansion with a spacious garden with different kinds of trees and floors. The maids were busy cleaning the mansion and making sure not a spec of dust could be seen as their master was a clean freak.

In one of the numerous rooms, decorated in monochrome colours, mainly black, grey and dark blue taht screamed of manly vibes stood a man with a cup of coffee in his hands as he looked out of the window to the busting city ahead.

Kai placed his cup of coffee on the coffee table and walked in the walk-in closet to get ready for another busy day at work.

Suits lined up all in black, dark blue, and grey with multiple white and black shirts. A display of watches and neckties on the side and shoes on the other.

After getting dressed, Kai drove off towards the Larson group with two rangerovers following closely.

Kai liked a quiet life, but with the previous assassin attempts, his mother had gotten nervous and ordered a team of bodyguards to follow him closely and others secretly.

Upon arriving, Kai immediately went to the meeting room for the scheduled meeting that would discuss the business with Brown's pharmaceutical.

The larson group was involved in many things, and one of them was the medical field. They owned the Larson Hospital, which was the first on the tip ten hospitals in the country.

They wanted to collaborate with the Brown's pharmaceutical for their different medecine and medical researchers.
