2 Chapter 2

“I don’t think we’re gonna run out of wood any time soon,” he said, noticing the great mountain of wood that Duke had lugged inside.

Duke laughed. “I didn’t know how much we’d need so I thought a bit more would do better than a bit less.”

“I reckon we’ve got enough there for the week.” Rob laughed. “Now, I’m not sure what you wanna do? A coffee or a warm shower?”

“Probably a warm shower. Haven’t had one in two days.”

“Right you are. Follow me.”

Rob took Duke upstairs to the guest room. “You can change in here.” Then he showed Duke the bathroom, which was situated right next door, between the guest room and Rob’s bedroom. “Here it is. Takes a while to get the temperature right so be careful before you step under the water.”

Duke thanked him and Rob returned downstairs to put the kettle on. It wasn’t until he’d filled the kettle he realised he hadn’t left Duke a towel. He put the kettle down on the stove, but didn’t light it, and returned upstairs to the linen closet.
