2 Caught

(Leo Hawkes' POV)

First I see a beautiful girl sprinting through the forest and the next thing I know, she's one of them. A shifter. She was beautiful both ways. As a human, with dark brown hair, and even though she had been running and it had been hard to tell, I knew that she was beautiful. And as wolf, she was simply majestic. In one jump, the girl had turned from human to a huge wolf. Pitch black fur, a long furry tail. I had glimpsed the wolf's eyes- silver. Pure silver. I've never seen anything like her. But I'd heard of her kind. She was a shifter.

Her kind had taken my mother, I was only 4, too young to remember. My father hated them. Hated them to the core. He spent his life hunting them, and teaching me how to hunt them. One hunt he went on, he never came back. I was left alone, only 16. That four years ago. I had gone to search for him the next day, hoping to find him alive. I never did. I found some traces of blood west from our house in the woods. I assumed him dead. Every day since then, I've looked for those wolves. Sometimes I find packs, I don't usually attack those. But a loner wolf, I'll usually hunt it down. After that, they never escape me. I haven't failed to kill a shifter. That is, until her. I've seen shifters turn into their wolf form, but every time it had been a man to a wolf.

When I saw the girl, I considered going after her, ask if she was lost. But then I saw her shift, and I froze.

What was she running from anyways?

She hadn't seen me, so I followed her.

She was fast. Really fast. But I managed to catch up to her after she turned human again. We were nearing town. The shifters didn't go to town very often, I wonder what she's up to. She stopped at a rest stop, but went behind into the alleyway. I followed her there.

It was sort of dark, I didn't see where she had gone. I thought I'd lost her. But then something pushed me against the wall. It was her.

"Why are you following me?" Her voice was sharp.

She was holding me tightly against the wall, with a strength I didn't imagine her having.

"I saw you."

She looked at me with caution, her eyes darkening.

"In the woods. You're one of them." I said.

She let go of me, putting her guard down. Which surprised me. Wasn't she afraid I'd attack her at any moment?

It was as if she read my mind.

"Don't even think about attacking me. Im stronger and faster than you. Stay where you are." She looked at me dead in the eye.

I must admit, I did underestimate her. I mean she had already known that I'd followed her and she managed to corner ME, when that had been my plan. Though she hadn't said it, at this point, I knew she could kill me. And there was no way I could stop her. But if she really wanted to kill me, she would've done it by now.

She sniffed the air.

"They're coming..." she muttered under her breath.

"Who?"

She turned her head towards me.

"There are some things you wouldn't understand, human. Things far beyond your comprehension."

"Is that so?" She had turned away from me, searching for something. What or who it was I wasn't sure. But this was my chance to get away or gain the upper hand.

But the second I took a step forward, I was met with the girl's glare and once again, back where we started, with me against the wall. She really was strong.

"I thought I told you to stay?"

"Alright you win. Can you at least loosen the grip a lit-" my sentence was cut off. A black figure jumped down from the rooftops. I hadn't even sensed it coming.

The figure said something, his voice deep.

"There you are little wolf." And I saw the glint of a knife.
