14 The Awkward Date (2)

Selena shook her head, but that was not a smart move. Since she had already drunk a lot of beers, the shaking just made her head even more dizzy.

She couldn’t fall for him. She didn’t even know him well. And he was a jerk. How could she fall in love with someone like him?

While thinking about that, Selena looked at herself in the mirror and fixed her hair. It was getting hard to have control over her actions, and specially over her tongue.

If Lucas continued to tease her, she was afraid that she would give him some sharp answers in front of everyone.

She left the bathroom looking down, taking deep breaths to sober up. And then she bumped into something. Or better yet, someone.

Before she had the chance to lift her head, she already knew who that was. That man fragrance and that fresh morning smell were unmistakable. She couldn’t take it off of her mind for days now.

“I thought you had run away again.” his voice was low, but at the same time, strong enough for her to hear.

The sentence echoed on her mind for too long.

Selena looked up and swallowed with difficulty. He was too close. So close that his scent was intoxicating her senses.

“If that was the case, this would be a really bad habit of yours.” he continued with that soothing and sexy voice.

“Why would I run away?” she asked.

“I don’t know. Maybe you can tell me.” he lowered his head a little, so his eyes were right above Selena’s eyes.

He was taller than her, so with that movement, Selena could simply stare at his lips.

For a brief moment, Selena almost kissed him, without thinking about anything else.

But she wouldn’t do that. Robbie was waiting for her, and there was also Demi. Whatever was the position she had in Lucas’ life.

She collected herself and cleaned her throat.

“I need to get back to the table. Robbie is waiting for me.” she tried to bypass him, but he stood in front of her again.

“Maybe you should take it easy with the booze.” Lucas said, and Selena could swear she sensed some concern on his voice and his eyes.

He was looking at her with very kind and attentive eyes. Until that moment, Selena didn’t think he was able to express any nice feeling toward her.

When would that nightmare be over? She was losing that internal conflict.

“I can take care of myself. You don’t need to worry.” she said, before leaving him behind.

Lucas stood there, looking at her move away. He knew she was very capable of taking her care of herself, but he couldn’t help but want to help her, take care of her.

Why was that so difficult?

He passed by the bar, grabbed a few more beers for him and Demi, and returned to the table.

Robbie was asking something on Selena’s ear, but the girl didn’t seem very fond of that. Needless to say, Lucas didn’t like that scene either.

Demi was looking at her phone, and he just wished that night was over soon. He couldn’t stand much more of that public affection between Robbie and Selena.

He was almost doing something that he would regret.

At that exact moment, Maddie and William returned to the table, but only to tell them that they were going home.

Maddie was a bit concerned about Selena’s state and how she would go home. Before Lucas had any chance to say anything, Robbie offered to take her home.

Selena seemed very nervous with that.

“No, no, no. It’s not necessary. I can go by myself. I’m already sober.” she lied.

Lucas could see clearly that sober was something she was not. She was probably avoiding that Robbie went to her house.

None of them seemed to know she was a werewolf, and if Lucas could do anything to help her hide it, he would do without thinking twice.

But he wasn’t going to help Robbie to take her home.

Robbie and Maddie tried to argue with her, but Selena firmly said she was going home alone, and nobody wanted to discuss any further.

“In fact, I think I should be going now. I need to help my grandmother before her travel.”

“Yeah, of course. Are you sure you don’t want me to take you home?” Robbie asked her again.

Lucas clenched his fist when Robbie got closer to her. He had never been so grateful for Selena rejecting that offer. He was also grateful because Demi went there with her car, so he wouldn’t need to take her home.

They said their goodbyes, and each one of them took different ways home. Lucas saw Selena turn right on the street and waited until everyone were gone, so he could follow the same path as her.

He couldn’t believe that the date was finally over. That was the most awkward and uncomfortable date he had ever seen.

But what was about to happen was something he would never expect.
