13 The Awkward Date (1)

Selena arrived at the Treehouse Bar and found Robbie, Maddie and William right away. She sat at the table with them and ordered a beer, still a little uncomfortable with the whole situation.

But just when she was starting to get a bit more relaxed, the most unexpected thing happened.

She was seated inside the bar facing the door, and when she lifted her head, she had to blink twice to make sure she wasn’t imagining things.

That was no one other than Lucas himself entering the place. And even worst than him being there, was the fact that he wasn’t alone.

He had a beautiful blonde girl beside him. And she was also a werewolf, from what Selena could tell. Selena’s guts shrunk in anger, surprising even herself.

Why would she bother if Lucas was with someone else?

She never imagined something like that would make her feel those type of feelings.

“Hey, look! It’s Lucas and Demi.” William said loudly, with his hand already up, waving to the newcomers.

Selena cursed inside her head.

Lucas and Demi saw the four of them on the table and came in their direction.

“Hi, guys! Didn’t know you were here.” Demi said, and Selena thought she had the most annoying voice in the entire world.

“Hi! What a coincidence.” Robbie said, getting up and welcoming them. “Why don’t you guys sit with us? Come, I’ll get two more chairs.”

They greeted everyone on the table and introduced Demi to Selena and Maddie. Selena had to use her best fake smile while talking to her.

“Demi is also from your class?” Maddie asked curiously.

Selena also wanted to know that. She had never seen her around.

“Yes, I am.” she answered.

Why the hell were they there anyway? What an inconvenient coincidence.

No one seemed to be aware of Selena’s discomfort. Lucas, on the other hand, seemed to be enjoying that occasion very much.

“So, what brought you guys here? Are you two on a date or something?” William asked, unconcerned with that personal question.

Lucas was about to say something, but Demi was faster.

“Lucas invited me for a drink tonight.” she said, with her hands around his biceps.

Selena took a huge sip of beer, finishing the content of the glass at once. That clearly wasn’t the type of date she was expecting.

She ordered another beer to the waiter. Her head was starting to get a little dizzy, but it was a little easier for her to bare the conversation.

She also couldn’t tell if Demi was his girlfriend or not, and the thought itself made her want to punch the girl’s face.

And the fact that she was also a werewolf bothered Selena even more, although she couldn’t figure out why.

“How are you, Selena? I thought you’d be a little more chatty today.” Lucas teased her.

What a jerk, she thought. If he wanted to provoke her once more, he wasn’t going to be successful that night.

She wouldn’t give him a chance to be affected again.

“Actually, before you arrived, I was just telling Robbie about my hobby. Right?” Selena leaned against Robbie’s shoulder, still making eye contact with Lucas.

For a brief second, she thought she saw Lucas’ smile tremble a bit.

“Yeah, I mean, I’d never believe she was the type of woman that likes fighting video games.” Robbie replied, looking at Selena.

She got a little scared since his face was too close to hers, so she backed away, sitting properly at her chair again.

Lucas almost lost it when he saw Selena leaning against Robbie’s shoulder, and got really satisfied seeing Selena retreat when Robbie looked at her so closely.

Or else, Lucas wasn’t sure what he would have done.

“Really? I’m really good at fighting games. Maybe we should play some day and see who wins.” Lucas said.

For the way he was looking at Selena, she was pretty sure that sentence was ambiguous, but pretended she didn’t get it.

She was not in the mood for his teases, so she was very grateful when Robbie changed the subject.

“Hey, man… When are we having another one of those parties?”

“Well, my birthday is next month, so you can count on it for sure.” Lucas replied.

“Lucas gives the best parties in the world.” Demi said lied her head on his shoulder.

“Really? You don’t really look like a party guy.” Selena provoked.

Lucas looked at her with a raised eyebrow.

“Well, now I’m curious! What do I look like then?” he said with that stupid smirk and those dark blue eyes staring at her.

“I’d say you look like a very boring and old soul guy.” she smiled.

“Oh burn!” Robbie teased Lucas.

“You’d be surprised!” Lucas replied looking at her, giving Selena ambiguous feelings from his answer.

A few awkward minutes later, Maddie and William didn’t seem very interested in the conversation, so they excused themselves and went outside of the bar for some privacy.

Selena was already too drunk to care about Maddie leaving her behind. She wasn’t supposed to be there ruining her friend's first date with William anyway.

Lucas, however, was trying his best not to jump on Robbie’s neck. Demi was also being her clingy self, but that came in hand for the first time.

Selena seemed annoyed with her presence, which made Lucas very happy.

“So, how come I never saw you at college, Selena?” Demi asked her with a tone of distrust in her voice.

If Demi knew how many times Selena had dissed her on her mind that night, she would not be talking to her for sure.

“Well, I don’t know. I’ve never seen you there too. Apparently, our college is really big.” Selena gave her a fake smile again.

Selena finished another glass of beer, and got up on her feet.

“I need to go to the bathroom now. I’ll be right back.” she excused herself, staggering a little bit.

She took a few minutes inside the bathroom, trying to calm down.

The night was going horribly bad for her. She was trying her best to ignore what she was feeling for Lucas, but that was not working at all.

And bring that Demi with him was the last drop for Selena. Now she was pretty sure that she couldn’t fight those feelings.

Was she falling for him?
