1 a note from me to you

Hey, friends! This is Cher, from Shanghai China.

This is a story about being at loss with yourself and searching for the courage to face your true identity. If you are a high school student, or any person going through an identity crisis or culture struggle, dark thoughts or feelings, I am confident that you will find a part of yourself within these pages.

At some point in our lives, we have resented living in our own skin, resented having to carry the weight of being the only. Like many other writers before me, this book wasn't a choice. I was in a dark place in my life, but the pen and paper liberated me. Writing opened up dimensions within me and allowed my deep-seated subconscious to come to life. Creativity was my therapy. It understood my strains of loneliness; it saw me at my most vulnerable and taught me how to be strong.

I entered the realm of writing with no expectations or desires, only with a torn heart and swollen eyes. But what I have created goes beyond 110,00 words of dialogue and fiction. I have created a book inspiring in tone and content, but at the same time, a book that does not romanticize or sensationalize the severity of prejudice and discrimination.

I hope that my book will move you to laugh, cry, maybe shout or even throw your device against the wall in anger of one of the characters. Okay, not really throw the book. But passion is good, right?

Just like you, I'm a devoted reader. The devoted reader community isn't large, which in my mind means that we are friends, connected through the special bond we call the internet. Although I remain a work in progress, I've grown, and am excited for us to grow together.
