Chapter 22 - Office Scouting

PT1 (post tutorial day 1)

Jon was surprised to see $140 in his bank account. The additional $130 bucks from both his own ability and Lena's harem ability, and also ownership of their own comfy place meant he functionally could survive without having a job ever again. Lena had her own savings, and despite being a member of the harem, she wouldn't part with her own money. There was also the issue of divorce settlements with her husband, so, she generally didn't want to mix their finances. Not yet.

Instead, Lena went to the grocer.

Jon needed new targets and rather than aim for other targets near to his office, he wanted to look for targets a little further away.

He wanted a noble target, and wondered whether he was ready to take on Kevin Palas. A quick look at himself, and he shook his head. He had no money, and yes, although the NTR System was powerful, it's still not strong enough to take on the resources of a powerful family.

He had to grow his own resources, or in his case, steal some.

"System. Find me a target with the same difficulty as Lena? Preferably someone with a small business I can- uh. Usurp? Preferably if the husband's an asshole or something. Maybe a small-time elite?"

[Filtering targets. There are some possible targets in this area.]

"No old grandmas people. Female targets aged 21 to 35 only."

[Filtering. There are some possible targets in this area.]

"Alright. Let's go hunting." Jon said with a smile.

The office area was fairly difficult and complicated, but then- he saw a beautiful office lady with a glowing light on her head. The same one that Lena used to have.

[Ella Moren. Secret Desire: Tied up, handcuffed, or restraints.]

[Do you wish to lock on to this target?]

"No. Not yet." Jon said. "I want to know who's the husband. Or the love interest." After what he went through with Wong, he still kind of felt bad for him. Sure, he neglected the wife, but Wong himself seemed like an alright dude. He'd prefer to steal from the assholes.

[Skill required to unlock]

"Fuck." Jon cursed and decided to trail the office lady. She worked in a building, and her employer's name was right outside. Poolman Limited. He thanked his lucky stars he wore an office wear, so he pretended to walk into the building, and smile. "Hi, I have a meeting. An interview, actually."

The receptionist was a middle-aged aunty, and she frowned. "Is it? I don't recall the boss trying to hire. Let me check."

The receptionist picked up the phone and called some numbers.

"Sorry, they'll need some time to check. Do you mind waiting?"

Jon did his best friendly smile. "Yeah, sure. Hey, there was that cute girl that walked right in. Who was that?"

"Oh. Ella. Yeah, she's one of the office cuties." The receptionist seemed to brighten up. "The boss has his eye on her though, has been trying to win her heart but so far, no luck. I heard they went on a date though. It didn't go well at all."

"The boss?"

"Yeah. The owner, Mister Henry Pool."

"Since I'm here for an interview, honestly, how is the boss?" Jon asked. "Is this like a good place to work?"

The receptionist smiled. "Hey! That's smart. Why didn't I think of asking receptionists for interviews. Well, honestly- the boss's a bit of a scumbag and does pretty dirty deals. But so far he's been lucky, so he was not yet exposed."

"Why don't you?"

"I still want my job!" The receptionist laughed.

Jon smirked. "That's true."

The phone rang, and the receptionist picked up. She nodded repeatedly, eventually looked back at Jon. "Hey, I'm sorry but it seems there was no interviews scheduled today."

"Ah. Really?" Jon had a practiced look of sadness. "Well. It's okay, then."

The receptionist tried to console Jon. "But wait. Do you really- really need a job? We actually do need an office janitor. A part time one, since the old guy broke his leg and doesn't clean the toilet as much."

Jon's face brightened. "Well, I'm not picky about my jobs at all. An office janitor sounds perfect for me."
