16 Chapter 15: Persistence

"I see. Even when knowing the difference between the two of us, you still persist."

Hearing that, Wang Yang laughed.

"Of course! Even if one faces adversity that would seem impossible, it is still an option to persist." Wang Yang said.

"And why is that? Why must you pursue the impossible? Do you not feel despair?" Ulquiorra questioned.

Hearing this Wang Yang smiled proudly.

"Cultivation is all about overcoming the seemingly impossible! Why cultivate if you don't have the heart?" Wang Yang said with vigor.

Ulquiorra's interest was piqued once more. Why cultivate if you don't have the heart? Does this mean that someone like him should not cultivate? Is overcoming the impossible really a part of one's heart? He was once again reminded of the similarities between Wang Yang and his final opponent in his previous life. Still, Wang Yang had not yet tasted true despair. Maybe, he should step up the difficulty a bit.

"I see" Ulquiorra said.

"I'm glad you understo-" Wang Yang smiled, but was suddenly hit by a heavy force in his abdomen.

"""Senior brother!""" Zhifeng, Zhou, and Jiayi all shouted.

Wang Yang flew away tens of feet before forcibly stabilizing himself and stopping. When he stopped, he had this thought that he should be glad he didn't eat dinner yet. He looked towards Ulquiorra as he felt the numbing pain in his stomach. He could see Ulquiorra standing there as he looked back.

"If that's the case, then show me." Ulquiorra said.

"Show you wha-" Wang Yang said before suddenly noticing that Ulquiorra disappeared once more. He immediately readied his Qi. He then heard a voice behind him.

"Show me how you'll overcome what's about to come next." Ulquiorra said.

'Damn!' Wang Yang thought. His hairs stood on end. He felt danger this time. One that could potentially endanger his life. He immediately used his qi to reinforce his legs. He even used the movement technique passed down to him by Nian Zhen. He needed to get away from that spot this instant.

'Fleeting Wind Steps!'

Wang Yang quickly moved as he saw Ulquiorra raised a finger aiming upwards towards him. He then saw a small thin green beam of light about the thickness of a cup brush past his sleeves, and wound his left arm. Wang Yang moved as quick as he could just to dodge such a nonchalant move of Ulquiorra. The beam went towards the sky. Wang Yang's eyes widened.

'What was that?! That was different from any other qi technique I've seen or know of! In fact, I didn't sense any qi from it!' Wang Yang thought. He had completely discarded any notions of Ulquiorra being a Qi Condensation cultivator. He considered Ulquiorra as an absolute genius of some sort.

"I see. You dodged it." Ulquiorra said.

Wang Yang had cold sweat running down his back from hearing that.

'I barely did!' He retorted inside.

"May I ask? What was that? It seemed like a qi attack, but at the same time, it didn't seem like one." Wang Yang asked.

"It's a cero albeit a very weak one as I wasn't aiming to eliminate you." Ulquiorra replied back.

Wang Yang's expression froze. He then shook his head before showing a wry smile. He looked at Ulquiorra again, before readying himself. He hasn't had enough yet. He felt that if he could at least scratch Ulquiorra, then winning the Rising Dragon tournament would be closer to his reach.

On the other hand, the trio that was spectating them were losing their marbles. They had expected this to be a quick and simple spar. Why were there things like a beam of light appearing from one's fingertip or a senior brother that had more than a mere major realm advantage seemingly challenging their Qi condensation junior brother as if his future depended on it.

"What's....happening exactly?" Zhifeng muttered.

"Agh! I dunno anymore! Why is Ulquiorra this strong?" Zhou cried out.

"The question is how can he shoot a beam of light! He is far from being a Golden core cultivator that should be the minimum requirement for attacks like those!" Jiayi said in frustration.

They all had their questions and comments. Sadly, nobody else could respond to them aside from themselves. They had no choice, but to watch on.

Ulquiorra dashed forward.

'He didn't disappear this time?' Wang Yang thought as he tried to intercept Ulquiorra by dashing in too and attacking.

"Moon Pike Strike!" Wang Yang used a knife hand technique to attack Ulquiorra.

(AN: Don't ask me. I don't know what the fudge a moon pike strike is. It's just a name I came up with randomly.)

Suddenly, Wang Yang felt a small hand grasping his knife hand. Ulquiorra pulled Wang Yang towards him before jumping and sending a knee strike towards Wang Yang's chin. Wang Yang couldn't dodge, and ended up being dizzy. Ulquiorra didn't stop there. He then punched the middle of Wang Yang's abdomen just below his sternum causing Wang Yang to cough and lose his breath.

Wang Yang didn't fall there though. He retaliated by performing technique after technique. He tried his all in order to strike Ulquiorra only to end up failing and getting beaten up more in the process.

'In this case!' Wang Yang thought it was time to try out the secret technique he used against the rogue 1st stage Golden core cultivator he won against.

Wang Yang backed off. Ulquiorra didn't chase him down. He was interested to see what Wang Yang would do. Wang Yang then put his two palms together. He was gathering a lot of qi in between them. He was prepaing the technique when suddenly, an angry aged voiced rang out.

"WHAT'S HAPPENING HERE?!"

It was Nian Zhen.
