9 We Meet Again

Li Dong Hai couldn't believe it. Not only did he not get to see the woman he wanted to see, he was forced to have dinner with the girl of his father's choice.

On the very nice and sunny Monday two days after his birthday, Dong Hai was sulking in the lobby of a grand hotel. His posture was of someone who could care less. He had his back slumped on the chair, looking like a dead soul.

He waited and waited and waited.

He looked at his watch.

12:19pm. She was 19 minutes late. One more minute and he would leave. His father couldn't blame him for it.

12:20pm. As he was excitedly getting ready to stand up, a petite figure appeared in front of him. He could only see her feet at the moment. Even that had turned him off. Yellow socks with brown sandals. His eyes went to her jean skirt all the way up to her fluffy pink blouse, then her thick glasses. Lastly landing on her hair. Mushroom hair? Where has he seen it before? That face...why did she look so familiar.

"Hello. We meet again Li Dong Hai." The girl excitedly waved at him.

Li Dong Hai was so angry he almost choked on his saliva. Surely this wasn't the girl his father set him up with. If it was, was his father doing this on purpose? This woman…he couldn't possibly be seen in public with her. But the more he thought about it, the more he couldn't believe it. This must have been a coincidence. His father described the girl as beautiful with a nice attitude.

"Have we met before?" he suddenly asked.

"You don't remember me? I saw you from a far and recognized you immediately. But I'm hurt you don't remember me." She wrapped her arms across her chest and exaggerated her disappointment. *wuwuwuw* "How can you forget me? We even dated for a day in college. I'm YI. FU. HUA!" she slowly pronounced. Looking at the shock on his face, she smiled widely with her gums showing.

*hehe* "It's nice to see you again." He forced himself to say. She had dropped out of college a few days after their first date. Dong Hai didn't have the chance to break up with her. But she was now in front of him, with the same look. He was glad she wasn't his date. Or at least that's what he assumed when he heard her words. This was a coincidence.

Dong Hai peeked his head over in all four directions. Fu Hua looked around with him.

She happily yet awkwardly scooted two steps towards him. "Who are we looking for?"

"I have a date. It was nice to see you again Fu Hua. But I won't bother you any longer. You can leave if you are busy." He quickly tried to chase her away. But she only blinked at him confused.

His eyes opened widely in surprise. Did she not understand human language? He was chasing her away. "Go. I won't bother you." He tried once more.

Fu Hua pat her skirt down and smiled with her gums showing once more. Her wide smile would give Dong Hai nightmare for days. He couldn't look anymore.

"Let me introduce myself one more time." She got interrupted.

"Yes, I know you are Yi Fu Hua. But I'm a little busy. You can leave now. I'll catch up with you some other day" He lightly nudged her arm. She looked at his hand on her arm and then gave him a look of disbelief. "I'm your date. The girl your father set you up with."

Fu Hua didn't hesitate to cling onto his arm. "Did you know that when I heard your name, I couldn't believe it. I know I shouldn't have agreed but I had to find out if it was really you or not. I'm so glad I decided to listen to your father. I'm going to be your girlfriend again!!" Fu Hua used the most obnoxious voice she had. Speaking every sentence slowly for Dong Hai to hear.

"My what?"

"You're girlfriend."

Upon hearing that, he pushed her away. "Forget this date setup. I'm not dating you." He flung his arm and was ready to leave her here by herself. Two steps later and he froze on the spot. She was much more cunning than he remembered.

"If I tell your father that you abandoned me on our first date, I could only imagine how pitiful you would be. Sitting all alone at a fastfood with a $1 sandwich in hand. Matter of fact, if your funds are cut off, you'd be lucky to have food tonight." Fu Hua crossed her legs innocently, pretending like she didn't threaten him just now.

"You wouldn't." Dong Hai stomped back over to her.

Before he knew it, they were both sitting at the table nicely, ordering ice cream.
