1 College Days

Summer of 2005-Nanjing University

A girl was hiding behind a brick wall with her back pressed tightly against it. Anyone at first glance could tell she had no fashion sense whatsoever. A long red shirt with white polka dots paired with khaki overalls. What was worse than her fashion was that mushroom hair she always sported. Her short hair barely reached below her airs as it curled inside. Her bangs slightly covered the thick round glasses on her face. Everything about her screamed ugly.

Her arms were bent up as she gripped tightly onto her backpack straps. No matter how many times she told herself to walk away, she couldn't. She could not stop herself from eavesdropping.

So what was she hiding from?

Her long time crush.

On the opposite side of the hall was her crush Li Dong Hai, the most handsome boy in school. She was a countryside girl who came to the cities for school. Lost with no friends.

She never would have imagined that on her face day of college two years ago, she would get bullied. It was Li Dong Hai who stood up for her. Since then, he was her knight in shining armor.

Maybe that's why she liked him so much.

Of course he was also charming. Ranked number 1 cutie in school. No matter what he wore he looked good. It was most likely due to his tall and masculine physique and striking features.

Today, he simply wore a plain white t-shirt with jeans and a leather jacket. Simple yet he looked like a walking model. The boy next to him was just as handsome. Sadly Meng Feng's good looks were overshadowed by Li Dong Hai's.

Yi Fu Hua's entire body started shaking the more she listened. Her eyes could barely hold onto the tears forming underneath.

"Okay. I admit defeat. Dong Hai, you win!" Meng Feng tossed his keys towards Dong Hai.

"Thank you." Dong Hai raised the key in front of Meng Feng, rubbing it in front of his friend.

Truthfully it was only a limited motorcycle. If Meng Feng wanted to buy another one, he could easily do so. It's just that he hated losing to this particular friend of his. But what could he do?

He put his hands in his pockets and shrugged like it was no big deal.

"What are you going to do with that ugly girl now that you've won the bet?" he asked curiously.

"Psh~ That mushroom headed girl? Let me tell you something." Dong Hai leaned towards his friend. "Not only is she ugly, she is clingy. Last nights date…" Dong Hai shook his head back and forth in horror. He put his arm around Meng Feng. "I didn't think I was going to make it. She kept holding onto my arm and everyone was looking. I have never felt so embarrassed. All the pitiful looks from cute girls." With his other hand, he clutch his heart as if truly hurt. "I shouldn't have made that bet."

*Hahaha* "Dong Hai, you better be careful or else she might hear you."

"It's already almost 6pm. Who is really going to be here? Forget her." he waved his hand. I"'ll take you home on my new bike." He once again jingled the keys in front of Meng Feng. A huge grin on his face.

"You terrible friend." Meng Feng chased Dong Hai down the stairs.

The only one left on the third floor of the campus was now Yi Fu Hua.

Her chin was facing down as she stared at her plain brown sandals. Her hands went up to pat her hair down a few times. "I'm not ugly. My mom tells me I'm the most adorable girl in the world." Her lips pursed up into a pout as she thought about his words. Mushroom head.

No matter how much she tried to tell herself she was cute, she couldn't fool her tears from going back. They began to flow like Niagara falls. Not even her thick glasses could hold them from flowing down her cheeks. "Li Dong Hai you asshole. I'll remember this!"
