1 Episode 0-Prologue

The Boundless Sage continent was ruled by strength, and every aspect of a persons life was decided not based on birth but based on strength. The laws could be broken and the royals defied if you were strong enough. The mightiest energy warriors could shatter mountains with a single punch and cause storms just by breathing.

But none of this mattered to the Kettele family. Joseph Kettele has never even seen an energy warrior, the strongest person he had ever met was the captain of the city guard who was just in the 4th stage of body tempering. Joseph lived in a small city of about 12,000 people in the eastern part of the Boundless Sage continent and lived was recently married. The tradition of the Boundless Sage continent dictated that one should marry after their 16th birthday, which Joseph did. He made a humble living working as a chef at the Phoenix Tapestry restaurant. The restaurant was one of the largest in the city and was owned by one of the noble families that lived in the capital.

Joseph was butchering a Silver Rumped boar which was an earthly beast with the strength of a 1st level body tempering master. Joseph has never cultivated before so it should have been impossible for him to cut the skin of the boar but the head chef had already evacuated the earthly energy out of the body of the boar. The head chef was standing beside Jospeh examining the pellet of earthly energy, "Didn't you say that your wife was pregnant?" "Yeah we just found out last month, the baby should be born before the festival of arrival." The head chef nodded his head and wrapped the pellet of earthly energy in a rag and handed it to Joseph "Soak this pellet in a bath and let your wife soak in it, it should should make sure that you have a strong kid." Joseph immediately panicked, these pellets were used by body refining cultivators to strengthen their bodies. It would have been impossible for Joseph to buy one with a month of his salary. Noticing his reaction the chef just chuckled "Don't worry about it, you've been doing fine work around here the last few months, consider it a bonus." Joseph offered his thanks and got back to work, more invigorated then before.

When Joseph got home it was already past midnight. He immediately woke his wife Vreil and urged her to use the pellet of earthly energy right away as if he was afraid it would disappear. He prepared a bath and dropped in the pellet. The water immediately turned a light green color and started to steam filling the room with a pleasant aroma. As Vreil submerged herself in the bath her skin turned a bright red color. She let out a moan of satisfaction and felt as if an enormous weight had been lifted off of her shoulders and back. She felt a burst of heat in her womb that seemed to suck away all of the energy from the bath. And then she felt nothing, it was as if the energy bath which should have lasted for at least an hour had dissipated in only a few minutes. Her skin reverted back to its normal color the only difference being it's clarity, a scar that she had since child hood had disappeared and she looked soft and smooth. Joseph just stared in awe as his wife's beauty increased by a couple grades, he couldn't help but think that it was a shame she was already pregnant.

Months passed, Joseph had been given another pellet of earthly energy by the head chef which had similar results, though not as shocking. And soon the festival of arrival was coming. Around halfway through their pregnancy the Ketteles had realized that Vreil was pregnant with twins. Twins were very rare on the Great Sage continent. Joseph had come home one night to find Vreil laying on the floor in a puddle of water clutching at her stomach. One moment her body would be burning hot and the other moment it would be bone piercingly cold. Fearing that something was wrong Joseph immediately went to find a doctor.

An old man with a wizened frame and a long beard took Vreil's pulse and examined her stomach. "You said that your wife is having twins correct?" "Yes yes, have you figured out the problem yet sir" Joseph replied. "I think I have, and I would certainly not call this a problem. You have been blessed by the gods young man." The doctor started laughing as he finished taking Vreil's pulse. "You have been blessed with children with extreme physiques. If I'm not wrong you should be having a son and a daughter. The son will have an extreme Yang physique and the daughter will have an extreme Yin physique." The doctor put his hand over Vreil's stomach "Giving birth to children with extreme physiques is extraordinarily dangerous even for energy arts masters, for a normal person like your wife there is an almost zero percent chance that she will survive. I will use my energy arts to try and preserve your wife's life on one condition." Joseph looked at the doctor in awe, he was both terrified that his wife could die but also amazed that he was talking to an energy arts master. This was the world they lived in, the authority that energy arts masters commanded was irreproachable. He got onto his knees and begged "I'll do anything in my power sir, please just save my wife." The doctor nodded his head a stream of light came out of his fingertips and coated Vreil from head to toe."This will be very dangerous and will require all of my concentration so I must ask that you leave, don't worry you can trust me with your wife's life." Joseph had unshakable face in the old doctor and left the room.

After roughly six hours the old doctor left the room holding the two babies. The old doctor handed the babies to Joseph saying "Hold them now, this will be the last time you see your children." Joseph held them and asked the doctor what he meant, and the doctor replied with this "I'm taking them, this was what I meant by the one condition to me saving your wife, these children have extreme physiques and can be trained to the pinnacle of energy art cultivation. I cannot let them waste their talents living here in the mortal world." Joseph was both sad and happy, he was sad to lose his children but happy to know that they would become energy arts masters. Besides he knew that even if he wanted to try and keep them the old doctor could kill him a hundred times over. Joseph held his children, he noticed that one of them was hot to the touch and the other one was freezing cold just like ice. He placed a kiss on both of their foreheads and handed them back to the doctor.

The doctor held the children in his arms and walked down the streets, even though it was very late at night the streets were still bustling. People were manning stalls and walking around in festive dress. "Oh yes it's the festival of arrival, how many years has it been since I last participated in this." The old doctor whispered to himself as he walked through the crowds. It seemed that no matter where he walked it was impossible for anyone to bump into him. He held the children in his arms and sighed as he took flight and walked into the sky. "I suppose this means I've failed the trials of the unfettered realm but does it even matter anymore."
