2 Chapter 2

I look at him confused and say, "Negotiate?"

Mephisto: "Yes, what kind of power do you want, considering that each Spirit of Vengeance possesses different abilities?"

I reply, "Do you know Johnny Blaze and Robbie Reyes? I want the powers of both." I speak directly, as I'm not a fan of the Ghost Riders, so these two are the only ones I know.

Mephisto thinks for a moment and says, "That's not a problem, but you do know that you won't be as strong in the beginning, right?"

I nod, confirming that I'm aware.

Mephisto continues, "Now, let's talk about a unique advantage for you. While I can't grant greater powers, I can assist with something reasonable."

I start thinking about a power that could help me, and there's only one that comes to mind, a power I found incredibly strong, even if it's a "passive ability."

But before I proceed, I need to confirm a few things: "Will I have the Hell Charger?"

Mephisto confirms with a smile, "Yes, I know you liked that one quite a bit."

I continue, "I want my dog with me as well. If possible, turn him into a Hellhound, but he should be able to control invisibility and have a super sense of smell. Also, he can switch between a form identical to mine or, instead of a Hellhound, transform into a Ghost Dog."

Mephisto confirms, "Of course."

Then I tell him about the power I want: "Perfect Adaptability. I've always found it very useful, and I believe it will help me greatly."

Mephisto widens his eyes and says, "That's a truly useful power. It's a pity I can't have that ability too, tsk..." He pauses for a moment and asks again, "Anything else?"

After thinking for a moment, I say, "I want to be incredibly handsome and have a 'great' friend downstairs in this life again. If possible, can it be my old one? Since I was well endowed before... I don't want to risk being lesser in my new life."

I was an attractive guy before and had an impressive physique, and I don't want to lose that.

Mephisto replies, "Actually, you can imagine your physical body right now and shape it however you want, and that will be your new 'self.' Also..." He pauses for a moment and continues, "Your new life will be in the Twilight world. Perhaps there might be some others involved? You will have the same name and be the nephew of Charlie Swan; your mother was his sister. You will wake up almost a month later, just like in your previous life."

I close my eyes and start imagining my new physical appearance, focusing on my original black hair and stunning blue eyes, which were beautiful eyes. Of course, I make my body the pinnacle of physical fitness... I used to be a bit lazy about it before, but now I won't need to do anything and will have a perfect physique.

After finishing my visualization, I feel my consciousness gradually fading away and panic a little, asking Mephisto, "What's happening?"

Mephisto smiles as he extends a contract to me, saying, "This is something I almost forgot. I programmed that once you finish imagining your new physical form, you would be sent to your new life, and I nearly forgot about the contract."

Taking the contract and reading everything carefully to ensure there are no hidden clauses or anything that could cause me trouble, I am surprised to find that it was genuinely fair.

I remark, "I never thought the devil would be fair."

Mephisto furrows his brow and retorts, "I have credibility, okay! I'm not the demon of lies or something!"

I give him a funny look and say, "You're the devil; you're masters of deception... of course, I would be surprised to see you do something fair."

Mephisto tightens his mouth and says, "Alright, just sign it already. I'm tired of you hitting me with words."

Signing the contract with my name, Mephisto also signs it. I see the contract split into two and fly, one for me and the other for Mephisto.

As I feel myself fading away, I wave at him with a mischievous smile and say, "Goodbye! I hope next time you're in your feminine form; it's much more pleasant!"

Mephisto's expression turns blank when he hears this, and he exclaims, "You're the worst future friend ever!! DID YOU HEAR THAT, YOU ********"

Break -

When I wake up again, I'm greeted with a big problem... my senses are much stronger now. I can smell scents I didn't want, hear loud noises... It's overwhelming. But soon, everything starts to normalize, and my unique ability kicks in, adapting me to my new reality. Now, I can focus better and see that I'm lying in a hospital bed, connected to various machines, and with a nurse at the doorway looking at me in shock.

I ask, "Where am I?"

The nurse leaves my room without saying a word and starts calling for the doctor.

A man enters the room, a generic-looking doctor with brown hair, brown eyes, and of average height. He examines me closely and says with a sigh, "You've finally woken up, young man. We thought we had lost you."

I look at him strangely and reply, "Lost me? I don't think I know you." I notice that my voice is very hoarse and place my hand on my throat.

The doctor speaks to the nurse after seeing me like this, "Bring some water for the young man, and let Chief Swan know that Damian has awakened." Then, he turns his attention back to me and says, "It seems you don't remember me, but even without knowing you, I am your doctor, and I take responsibility for your life. So, it would still be a great loss to all of us who have been taking care of you."

I delve into my memory and then recall with widened eyes, "You're that uncle who always makes unfunny jokes about wolves and lost a $10,000 bet to my father. You're Mark, right?"

The doctor's smile freezes, and lines appear on his forehead. He says, "Haha, it seems you remembered, and it's still a terrible memory. You're just like your father, never forgetting those things..." He pauses for a moment and adds sadly, "I'm so sorry for what happened."

I tilt my head and reply, "Sorry? It wasn't you who killed my parents."

He opens his mouth slightly and lets out a sigh, "I'm sorry for that too, for those responsible not being brought to justice."

Trying to change the subject, I say, "Are you sure we should be talking about these things now? Isn't there a protocol or something to follow that says not to discuss personal matters with patients?"

The nurse enters and hands me a glass of water. She says to Mark, "I called Chief Swan, and he's on his way. He was already coming today to visit Damian." She then continues, while giving Mark a tap on the head, "And the boy is right. Even if you're emotional, you should still maintain professionalism!"

I take a closer look at the nurse and remember, "You're Bailey, right? His wife?"

She gives me a gentle smile as she takes the empty glass from me and says, "Yes, and I'm not just his wife; I'm also your godmother."

I nod, and then I remember something and ask, "I recall that you moved to New York a few years ago, so how come you're here now?"

Mark answers, "When we heard about the accident, we requested a temporary transfer to take care of you. Bailey, Charlie, and I were assigned as your guardians after..."

I complete his sentence, "After my parents' death." They nod in confirmation, and their faces turn sad as tears stream down their cheeks.

Soon, they start conducting various tests on me to... well, I'm not a doctor, so I'm not sure what they're trying to figure out.

When I finally return to my room, now without those connectors, Charlie rushes in, looking at me in shock. He comes over and hugs me tightly, saying, "Thank God you woke up, kid."

I hug him back, and I notice that he seems a bit... uncomfortable? From what I remember in my memories, he's not the touchy-feely type; he's quite shy.

Damian: "Hi, Uncle Charlie."

Charlie asks after pulling away, his eyes moist as he wipes them with the sleeve of his uniform, "Have the doctors done their examinations? Are you okay?"

I nod in confirmation and reply, "They have, but the important test results will take a little longer to come in. However, they say I'm doing much better." I pause for a moment and ask, even though I probably already know the answer, "Have... they been buried?"

Charlie speaks with a sad tone, "Yes, I'm sorry we couldn't wait for you to wake up."

I nod my head as tears fall from my eyes, and this newfound ability to experience emotions again finally opens up. Damian: "I understand. I know it wasn't possible to wait any longer..." More tears stream down my face, and it's strange to feel so much again. I had almost forgotten what it was like to have emotions.

Uncle Charlie hugs me again, and I end up falling asleep shortly after experiencing this overwhelming surge of emotions.

Mark and Bailey enter the room and come to my side. Mark says, "Looks like he finally couldn't hold it all in."

Bailey looks gently at sleeping Damian and says, "He was trying so hard to be strong. His mother was the same way. I'm surprised he lasted this long." She sighs and adds, "This child shouldn't have to go through this. No child should."

Charlie nods in agreement.

Mark: "They didn't find those scumbags?" he says, clenching his jaw in anger.

Charlie sighs and replies, "No, it seems they have some kind of hideout or a hole somewhere. They've disappeared completely." He pauses for a moment and continues, "The FBI is taking over the case, as they've been after this group for a while. It's related to a gang they've been investigating."

Mark adds, "I hope they're caught soon, and if possible, I hope they get killed." The other two can't help but nod in agreement.

Little do Mark and the others know, a certain young man has already started thinking about ways to kill the culprits, and soon, vengeance will ignite, and spirits will cry out for help.

One week later -

During this week, I've been used as a guinea pig for exams several times. When the results came out, they showed that my health is incredible, and there was no sign that I was recently in a serious accident.

Today is the day I got discharged, and my uncle wanted to take me to Forks, but I told him it wasn't necessary. Instead, I asked him to take my motorcycle, yes, I have one, the same one used in Ghost Rider 2, and leave the car here. He also brought my dog yesterday and left him at my house. I told him I'd organize my things and move to Forks on Sunday.

My parents have a house about 600 meters away from Charlie's house...

And why am I going to move? Firstly, it's for the plot, and secondly... I don't want to stay in this house filled with memories now that I have a bomb called emotions.

I had to get used to them in these past few days. I don't even know how many times I've cried, especially when I noticed the photo that Uncle Charlie brought of me and my parents with my grandparents when I was a child. They still look exactly how I remember them from my past life. Both with blue eyes, though my mother has black hair, and my father has blond hair. I inherited the blue tone from my father, which I owe an apology to my mother for, as I find this shade more beautiful, as clear as a crystalline lake.

While I pack all my personal belongings in a bag since I'm about to leave the hospital, Mark and Bailey enter the room. Bailey hugs me and says, "Are you sure you don't want to come with us to New York?"

Mark also comments, "Yes, you should come with us. You would love that city."

I decline for what must be the fourth time and say, "I'm sorry for refusing again, but I promise that when I go to college, I'll choose one close to be near you both."

Tia Bailey, as she asked to be called, gives me a warm smile and asks, "Really? Do you promise?" Mark nods his head with a smile, looking at his wife like a child.

I confirm, "I promise."

Tia Bailey hugs me tightly and says, "That's great! I can't wait..." Then she starts talking about plans for when I go there, as I'm graduating next year.

Afterward, they take me to my house, and after having dinner together, they head back to their place, which isn't too far away. They also said they'll return to New York tomorrow.

When they leave, I'll have three days alone to plan my revenge before going to Forks. As I sit on the couch with my dog, Sirius—yes, I named him Sirius—he's a powerful and giant Caucasian Shepherd.

I speak to him while stroking his soft and large fur, "Tomorrow night, we'll start looking for them, boy. We'll hunt and avenge my parents." My blue eyes shine a powerful red as I finish speaking.

Sirius barks and his eyes also glow red, showing his thirst for blood. Of course, I must first learn to control myself, as I haven't tested anything yet. But that will have to wait for later...
