Strange Dream

When I opened my eyes, I saw a giant full moon directly in front of me. It was only me and the giant stone in the vacuum of space. Lately, I've been having this dream often, and it keeps getting longer and longer…

"Leon! Wake up, we are here," I suddenly hear a voice, and return to the real world. Right… I was with my uncle on the way to Forks when I fell asleep.

"I only closed my eyes for a second," I tell him and stretch myself before getting out of the car to grab my bag.

"You slept for nearly three hours," says Uncle Caden amused, and gets out of the car too. He was a high-ranking police officer in Forks and had little to do with me until the car accident involving me and my parents…

And since only the two of us were left, after the strange deaths of the rest of our family members, he had no other choice but to take care of me, at least until I turned 18 in one year.

But looking at his giant house, which is surrounded by a vast forest, it seems he will have no problem feeding another mouth. I don't even want to compare it with the small apartment I lived in with my parents in Olympia.

"I only pretended to sleep… anyway, are we just going to stand around, or will you show me the place?" I ask him after getting everything.

He ignores my first statement and tells me while opening the entrance door, "Of course, I will show you around, but not today. It is getting late, and since you have school and I work in the morning, we should postpone it."

"Sure, I have no problem with that," I say with a shrug and walk inside the spacious house that seems to have everything the year 2005 has to offer. The Newest TV, a modern kitchen made out of dark wood, and everything else you could wish for.

My room was on the second floor and was spacious enough to be a living room too if you replaced the giant bed with a smaller one.

"This is it. I sadly had no time to buy a television and computer, but you can have this for now," he says and hands me a laptop before continuing, "So don't forget school starts at 8:00 am. I already arranged everything. You only need to go to the principal's office to tell them you arrived."

"Thanks… and thanks for everything else," I tell him and grab the laptop.

"Don't worry, kid, I—" he says, but then stops and grabs his chest, looking like he is in pain.

"Uncle Caden?! Is everything alright?" I ask him and walk towards him, but he stops me with a gesture and says, "Yes, don't worry, I simply didn't sleep well for the past few days."

"Are you sure?" I ask him again, but he only smiles and nods before closing my door and walking away… I hope he is all right, I mean he looks like the fittest man I have ever seen, but you never know. 

He was essentially a larger and much more athletic version of my father. It's hard to believe that he is the older one, since my father looked much older than him. Anyway, if he says he is alright, then I will believe him…

So, after that happened, I looked around the room before dropping my bag in a corner. And even though it was only 8 pm, I decided to lie down to play around with my Motorola until I fell asleep.

… Only to have this dream again. I and the giant full moon all alone. But this time, I had the desire to scream at it for some reason.

"Awoo!!!" I howl towards the moon, causing everything around me to break apart like a mirror, until I suddenly find myself on a cliff above a familiar-looking forest. What the hell? The dream never changed like that before.

Wanting to scratch my head, I raise my hand… Wait, is it even a hand? Because it was suddenly full of dark greyish hair, and my fingernails turned into giant claws. 

Looking down at myself, there is dark grey fur everywhere, but even the fur can't hide the bulging muscles I didn't have before. 

Not to speak of the wolf-like feet or the tail that feels like any other limb… Touching my face carefully, I can feel a snout, sharp teeth, and on my head, two ears where they shouldn't be.

Man, I have never had such a realistic dream before, and even less a dream about turning into a werewolf.

"Awooo!" suddenly, I hear another howl from the woods below, and for some reason, I know exactly the position where it is coming from.

Hearing it, my crazy new body starts to move automatically, making me jump down from the cliff like a madman, only to use my new feet to land safely before dashing towards the location of the wolf.

Does my body really move automatically, or is it my doing? Something tells me it's the latter, since I move my feet actively, eager to see the wolf… But when I arrived at the spot where the wolf was, he was already gone.

Leaving me with no choice but to raise my nose into the air to find his scent. And if I'm not wrong about the second scent, he seems to be hunting a deer for a midnight snack. So, after following my nose, I find him and jump onto a thick tree branch to get a good look.

Only to see a seven-foot-tall, pitch-black werewolf sneak up on a deer…

"Rargh!" As soon as my wolf friend comes close enough, he pounces on the deer before holding it down, and biting its neck until it stops moving. Man, that looked epic! 

And for some reason, the deer smells really tasty…

Maybe he is willing to share? He can't say more than no, right? I make a big leap and land next to the wolf, who gets so startled that he drops the meat he chewed on.

Seeing him up close, he was really like me, and even though I don't know what my eyes looked like, his were bright red, like that of a wild beast…

"Rargghh!!!" he suddenly screamed and pounced at me. Well, maybe he can say more than no… 

But for some reason, his attack seems so slow… so I shift my body to the side, to evade his attack before grabbing his neck and slamming him to the ground.

"Rrraaarrrggghhh!" I then scream in his face, making the surroundings vibrate. This suddenly calms him down, and his eyes turn from a glowing red to a glowing green.

'Wait… Uncle Caden?' I ask in my mind because after his eyes changed, I could somehow tell who he was, only to get back 'Leon? How?'

'No idea? Strange dream, I guess… Bother sharing?' I ask him and gesture towards the deer with my head.

'No?' he growls, confused while his thoughts get transferred into my mind. So I let go of him and turned towards the deer before starting the feast, only for my uncle to join me shortly after.

*Crunch, crunch,* What the hell is this? This is the best raw flesh I have ever eaten… and I didn't even need a drink since the blood was enough to quench my thirst!

Sadly, after what felt like seconds, the deer was gone with all it had to offer… But I was full. Well, maybe dessert will still fit in. The only problem was that my whole fur was now completely sticky.

'Is there a river nearby or something like that?' I ask my uncle, who stares at me in disbelief after the feast.

'Eh, river? Yes, follow me,' he says and starts to run on all fours, so I copy him, while my eyes adapt to the speed to help me out. 

While running, I also noticed something that felt natural until now, but the forest looked so bright and natural that I could make out every small animal that tried to hide in the shadows from me. 

And I don't want to start to talk about the smell. But every tree, leaf, or animal smelled so intense and different, but not in a bad way, and I could clearly differentiate everything with only my nose.

To make it short, it was unbelievable…

After a few seconds of dashing through the forest, we finally arrived at the river, and I could now not only wash myself but also take a good look at my face.

Staring back at me was a dark grayish wolf face, and in contrast to the green glowing eyes of my uncle, my iris glowed electric blue.

My uncle and I seemed to have the same height and the same shape, but the fur and the eyes made us look still different, which was fascinating. But I was fascinated by everything right now, so I simply put it on the growing list.

And as long as the dream lasts, I want to get fascinated more!
