4 Chapter 04 - Meeting

Looking around my house, I don't see much to take, few things here can be useful for me. Also, considering the taste of that apple I bit into, better to abstain from human food and just stick with blood anyway.

Because I somehow look like a vampire now. At least I can get out in the sun without getting burned, although glowing is annoying, maybe I can do something using the skills I gained from the scorpion. I still don't know anything about them other than attacking.

Having made my decision, I dressed in an overcoat that blocked most of my skin, putting on a pair of sunglasses, I waited until late afternoon and went to a real estate agent to sell my house. It wouldn't do me any good, other than I never really liked California. Too hot for my taste.

Fortunately, in less than a week, I managed to sell my house. Now with nothing else to bother me, I can finally leave this place and head north. Canada looks like a good option.

Traveling north, I started to feel thirsty again, it had been about ten days since I attacked Michael. Thinking about my options, I stopped at a roadside station for gas while looking around.

Standing there in a van, a hippie was handing some pills to a pretty blonde. Looking beyond I could see another young man smoking a cigarette lying behind him. Apparently, my dinner was available.

I paid for fuel and drove for about ten minutes, where I found a back road where I could leave my car for a few hours.

I ran back to the gas station, the van door was closed. But I could hear the conversation of its occupants from where I was watching.

Watching the van start to leave the station, I ran to a place a few hundred meters from the station and signaled for a ride. Of course, they stopped, two hippies of peace and love with drugs all over their system. Where could they suspect, I'm a handsome young blonde looking like a high school student? My red eyes certainly helped give them the wrong impression of the reason for the ride, as without even asking me, one of them offered me a joint.

I shoved my stinger into his shoulder, putting in enough poison to paralyze without killing, I repeated the same to the driver. Assuming the direction I went to where my car was parked.

It was a nice meal, I feel full, and stronger than I was in the morning. Taking their money, I drag their bodies to the side of the road and burn them to dust. Leaving your car abandoned is time to move on. After just over two days of traveling, it's time to leave my car behind.

I'm faster running anyway. And so, setting fire to the poor Chevy, I continue my journey through the deserts of California, always heading north.

Traveling through the desert at a walking pace, he gazed at the stars as he hummed, I Can't Get No, Satisfaction—The Rolling Stones.

As I walk singing, I dare fast steps running towards me. My survival extinct warns me of the possible danger such a being could pose to me, and so I assume a defensive posture as the figures of a couple enter my field of vision after climbing a small hill.

On the left a Latino man about six feet tall, with black hair and backpacker clothes imitates my posture by stepping in front of the woman. She is slightly short, maybe 1.57 tall wavy brown hair and an athletic body wearing backpacker clothes like the man, but unlike him who wears pants she wears shorts that emphasize her beautiful legs.

Deciding on a peaceful approach, the woman steps forward with her hands raised, one of my right eyes fixed on her without my moving my left eye. My arms are slightly raised with my hands facing down, my stingers with their small sharp points out of my skin and out of your field of vision give off little flames of hell.

Considering my first previous encounter with one of our race, I won't risk it, I still won't attack first, let's see what they want. We stay in this stalemate for a few minutes until the woman moves again.

'' We don't want to fight, we are just passing nomads heading north, we smell your scent, and we decided to meet you and see if you would like some traveling company, for a while at least.

'' My name is Jenna and this one next to me is Henrique. We don't want to fight, if you want we can leave.

Looking at the two I still don't feel any animosity, but I won't trust them either, I'll just take the opportunity to clear up some doubts and then move on. If they try something, I can certainly burn them. (For some reason I always seem to be looking for excuses to burn something or someone these days, weird, really weird)

'' I am Christopher, a little company will be interesting. And if possible, I'd like to clear up some doubts." As I talk to Jenna, my eyes follow every move Henrique makes.

He looks more dangerous, or it could just be my teenage hormones talking louder. Though, I still don't know if I have hormone issues. One more question to be answered, it seems.

Jenna although looking a little surprised looks at me and gives a slight nod. Resolving to move on while we talked, we again headed north.

'' Tell me Jenna, what are we?

Jenna has stopped in place, her face set in an expression of endless shock, Henry has somehow stumbled and is face down in the sand.

From the current perspective I may have been wrong, Henrique is not dangerous, just a bumbling comedian.

"What do you, mean we are, Christopher?" She looks at me with some suspicion.

''It's quite simple actually, I was bitten by a stranger, and the place started to burn, when I woke up the stranger wasn't anywhere where I could ask, and he could answer me.'' I answer technically speaking only truths. After all, ashes don't speak.

Jenna seems to know I'm telling the truth, as she, though a little incredulous, seems to have her own idea of the situation.

'' We are Christopher vampires, we feed on blood and prefer to go out at night as you have already noticed.''

"We are the perfect killing machines and apparently have eternal life."

''Although I'm just a pretty young girl in her 19s, Henrique there told me he's 200 years old, a real grandpa, don't you agree?''

I already figured that out, but confirmation really is something else, I'm a vampire and I have some pretty cool powers to improve everything, I think my life is starting to get better.
