93 A Fragmented Refuge

Hearing this, the Governor looked at these two women with a sincere expression and explained in clear words, "I think you have the wrong idea of your situation, you are not prisoners, but our cordial guests."

"If you want to leave, you can leave at any time, but you cannot do that at night as that would cause you trouble considering the walkers outside."

After saying that, the Governor turned and walked toward the exit of the room, motioning for these two women to follow him.

"Welcome to Woodbury!" The Governor walking out the door raised his arms and said loudly to the two women behind him.

Michonne and her companion walked slowly towards the door, as they stepped out they looked at a small town in front of them, a whole street of houses clear of walkers and clean, trees or bushes trimmed, the quiet of the night permeated the surroundings, at a glance this place proved that things outside did not exist.

The Governor took Michonne and her companion to the wall on the side of the city so that they could have a good view, and finally took them to a room to rest.

Of all this the only thing that remained the same was a guard standing at the door, which gave them the impression that they were being watched.

In this situation, Michonne listened to what was coming from the other side of the door for a while. When she felt the other party had stopped talking, she called Janet to sit next to her on the bed.

"We're out of here first thing tomorrow morning! I always get that feeling that something is wrong with this place, we shouldn't let our guard down." Michonne voiced her thoughts, then spent the rest of the time staring at the door with a cold expression.

Janet turned around to close the window curtains, looked back at Michonne and said quietly, "Did you see him too? That man they call the Governor stomped that soldier's head all over. Then when everyone looked at him his attitude changed again."

Janet was a black-skinned woman with short hair, besides being malnourished due to lack of food, she has some diseases that have made her survival difficult so far. But still, during all this time she managed to survive.

"That Governor is a fake man who lives deceiving people in this place, a madman hiding his true nature in that hypocritical smile." Michonne still remembers the Governor's fake smile, which caused her to feel a sense of crisis and she couldn't wait for the moment to get out of this strange place.

After saying that, the two were silent for a while, Michonne approached Jenet and said with a comforting tone, "First we have to focus on resting, we will observe the situation and tomorrow we will make a decision, but still this place doesn't end up convincing me."

Hearing this, Janet nodded her head and began to relax little by little. "Those people made an effort to bring us back, at least they shouldn't attack us while we sleep, we need to rest."

...

In a room known as a laboratory in Woodbury, many said that this place was about a laboratory, but in reality it was nothing like that, although there are several experimental subjects, some tables and chairs, bottles and glass jars with things inside, this place could be considered a place to satisfy the Governor and for him to do some experiments.

"What did you find?" The Governor opened the door to the lab and asked Milton who was busy on a bench in the room.

Upon hearing this question, Milton put down the notebook in his hand and with an excited face, pointed to the other walker on a table and said, "This is an amazing discovery! This woman cut off their arms, jaws and led them around like dogs. When they lost their hands and jaws, these walkers lost the desire to bite."

The Governor looked at Milton and then walked towards a walker, looking at the way he was cut he felt curious, after noticing his approach, this walker did not move to bite him like the rest of the ones outside.

After a little observation, the Governor stuck his fingers into the mouth of the walker who had lost his jaw, and there was no biting movement, all of which made him feel very novel at this discovery.

"Why does she lead two walkers like dogs?" The Governor did not look at Milton, but continued to stare at the walker in front of him, but that did not stop him from asking his questions.

"Even though these walkers can't bite, they still walk and if they lose all instinct to attack, they are used as camouflage!"

The governor understood instantly and couldn't help but admire, "That's a wonderful idea!"

...

The next morning, Michonne woke up early and looked at Janet who was still sleeping next to her and did not disturb her for now.

Shifting to the window, the voices of many people came from the window, Michonne who was curious opened a space between the window and what was happening outside came to her eyes. The quiet street of last night became lively now, people were waving to each other and busy with their own daily activities.

But Michonne's brows were actually furrowed deeper, and a feeling of extreme incongruity made her uncomfortable all around. These people were simply wandering around without doing any work, but she couldn't see any abnormality in their faces, as if they were already used to this way of living.

Considering this is a big shelter, keeping it sustainable and with food made Michonne ask herself a lot of questions, where were these people getting so much food for all these people? Where were the guns and ammunition coming from? And most importantly, why is there a large group of people doing nothing useful?

In her eyes, many things about this place are contrary to reality, which is the main reason why she doesn't like this place. No one here seems to be cognizant of the true face of the world today, which creates a feeling of control within this place.

While Michonne was thinking wildly, Janet woke up in bed. A good night's sleep made Janet look so much better right now!

Seeing Michonne standing by the window, Janet walked over to the window as well.

"What's wrong?"

Hearing movement behind her, Michonne didn't make a sound, just pointed towards the window open for Janet to look. "Is it just me or are these people not doing anything? Do you think they're sick or are they being controlled?"

"So you can feel it too, I think not only this place is strange but also its people, we need to get out of this place as soon as possible." Michonne's expression was very worried, but another part of her told her that even getting out of this place would be a difficult thing to accomplish.

Just after the two left the room, they found a beautiful woman with long black hair, a floral dress standing in the doorway. The woman greeted the two of them without saying her name, but only beckoned the governor to order her to take the two of them on a brief tour of the town.

Obligated to observe this place, they followed the woman to the other side of the town.

Michonne realized that what she had seen earlier from the window was not all. There were still some crops of her own here, but the amount wasn't much, she just didn't believe that such a small amount of vegetables could feed so many people.

Some of these people even take care of the green plants, which makes Michonne feel that these people don't want to see what this world really was. Is it really a convenient thing to spend time on some flowers and plants that are now useless?

...

At the same time Michonne and Janet were exploring the Governor's beautiful shelter, Airon had successfully rescued the downed helicopter pilot. It was unfortunate that the other soldier who was being transported to the prison died from his serious injuries on the way back.

The remaining soldier, although he had serious injuries to his body, persisted and his will to live meant that he was able to hang on until he reached the base. After the best doctors at the base treated that pilot all night, his life was saved, but recovery would take a long time.

Some time later, the soldier had awakened and had been placed in a separate room. His entire body was wrapped in gauze and an IV was hanging next to him, you could tell that only his head was unbandaged.

"What is this place?"

Hearing this, Airon, who was standing next to the wounded soldier and holding a bottle of water in his hand, saw this person gradually wake up, so he immediately said in a soothing voice: "You can relax, friend! You are safe, don't be nervous!"

The soldier who woke up and immediately became alert, slowly turned his head and saw Airon who was dressed in a military uniform, so he couldn't help but ask in a calm voice, "Are you also with the army?"
