The Chosen One

"ASTRAL TEMPEST"

Lifting his hand, Alex casted the spell which immediately responded as white lighting formed on his hand and at a speed unseeable to the eye, shot through the gargoyle's head causing the whole body to crumble.

The pressure of the Soul Chain stopped leaving Alex to fall to his knees in exhaustion. He had over exerted himself and had no power to stand even if he wanted to. Slowly, he started to close his eyes hoping for a peaceful rest like he deserved instead he felt a sharp pain go through his body.

The pain caused him to open his eyes which immediately shot towards the location of the pain. Seeing the large blade sticking through his chest, Alex just sighed as he looked at his attacker.

'Woah, a kitsune totally unexpected.'

The black haired foxlike creature smiled in victory as it pulled the sword from the back of Alex killing him. Unexpectedly, the body of Alex burst into a pillar of black flames, consuming his body leaving nothing behind, not even ash.

The battlefield went crazy after this event as the radicals of the Order of Purity were stunned. Many knew that Alex was the son of the great magus but none truly knew his skills. After the defeat of the gargoyle though, Alex seemed to be implanted in the hearts of the radicals as a prodigy and maybe even future magus.

Seeing the kitsune's cruel way of killing the son of the great magus, the radicals went crazy and slaughtered the supernatural with even more fury than before.

While this was going on, a few miles away in a small lake bubbles began to form. The bubbles then turned into ripples which then turned into even bigger ripples until eventually Alex emerged in full uniform, breathing as if he had just been born.

'Man the feeling of dying truly never stops hurting.'

Crawling to shore, Alex laid on the grassy ground as he stared at the moonlit sky. The battle had lasted about 5 hours in which he had only died once, he called it a success. The fatigue he felt before was gone but the feeling of rebirth was always uncomfortable so Alex usually took a few minutes to acclimate to his body.

After lying on the ground for a while, Alex got back on his feet and decided to head in the direction that smelled of blood. It took a few minutes to arrive as Alex sprinted since he was back at full physical strength. Upon arriving on the battlefield he received many weird looks, some even murderous but after they held up some device their face changed to that of confusion. The battle seemed to have already ended and the majority of the army seemed to have already set up camp so Alex decided to report to General Croom then get a good night's rest.

Walking into the camp was no different than when he first returned to the battlefield. The looks filed with killing intent quickly turned to that of confusion some even got on their knees. Weirded out, Alex increased his walking speed eventually arriving Infront of General Croom.

"BOY, you almost gave me a heart attack. If I had to report to your father that you died I would probably be looked down upon with disgrace. You….. I need a drink."

Croom seemed to be both relieved and confused which caused him to seek alcohol to cope with his nerves.

"Are you going to tell me how you lived? I mean any mage or witch worth their a*s would know you're not human but coming back to life that's something almost unheard of. It is said that only necromancers can revive the dead and even then they are more like husks than alive so how are you alive?"

"Well, Sir, my father made a spell in which I was turned into a new species. Most just call me The Hunter due the reason my powers were made. Which is…"

Croom interrupted Alex.

"That evil bastard actually did it. I thought I would never see the day in which our ancestors' ritual actually worked! No wonder your father told me to push powerful foes upon you. HAhaha what fantastic news so much so I think this calls for a celebration don't you?"

Croom sat up from his chair and began to leave the tent but was stopped by me.

"Please General Croom, before you do anything can you tell me about this so-called ritual created by your ancestors?"

"Haha, of course my boy come sit, the festivals can wait until tomorrow morning. The men are probably tired after the battle anyway."

Grunting as he sat down, Croom grabbed a bottle of some unknown alcohol and poured a cup for himself and one for me. Without complaint, Alex grabbed the cup and sipped it as he listened to the story.

"Well, remember a few days ago when I told you that our beautiful nation was attacked by those god awful supernatural species?"

Alex nodded in confirmation.

"After the nation's destruction the survivors created not only the Order of Purity but also created a bunch of spells and rituals of which some you have already learned. The Soul Chain is a special spell only available to top members of the Order, I bet you have learned many more spells that were created by our ancestors also."

Smiling with pride, Croom continued.

"Anyway, there was one mysterious incomplete ritual said to be passed down from magus to magus hoping that one day the ritual would be completed. It was a rumor and most believed it to be a fairytale, even I thought so but seeing you now, I know it's true.

The rumor mentions that the ritual was created from the hatred of our ancestors after the fall of their prosperous nation. It is said the magus at the time drove himself mad creating the foundations for the spell. They wanted to create not only a hunter but a monster capable of standing against other monsters and seeing you now I know that the effort put in wasn't in vain."

Seeing the General crying, Alex became a little awkward. He was about to say something but Croom quickly recovered.

"God has chosen you to drive the supernatural to extinction. I had no idea what your father wanted at first when he sent you to me but now I know. We shall conquer the battlefield, we will burn our way all the way to the Song dynasty."

The determination in Croom's eyes was terrifying.

'What the hell did I get myself into.'
