1 At Death's Door

Mira ran as if she was being chased by demons. She laughed mockingly at herself, isn't that what's happening right now?

Its them.

She shouldn't have come here alone. She shouldn't have trusted the people around her easily. Regret and despair filled her.

She cried out in pain as she tripped. Her feet is filled with cuts and bruises from running barefooted and her clothes are wet from the rain. In her face is a bloody gash that mars her face. But although she looks pitiful, it couldn't hide her beauty.

Footsteps followed her as she ran faster in panic. Mira heard a gunshot and suddenly felt her side burning. She fell down while clutching her side, her white shirt slowly turning red. She cried in pain but pulled herself up and tried to run again. No matter what, she wouldn't die at the feet of anyone. Never.

She saw the trees slowly thinning out and stopped. She was already at the cliff's end.

"You should stop now. If you come with us quietly, I can at least promise to keep you alive." A familiar voice said.

Mira didn't need to look to know who it is. She didn't turn back and instead stared at the dark sea in front of her. The rain poured harder and the wind blew stronger, as if the nature itself was sympathizing with her frustration and despair. Her heart grew colder as she took a deep breath.

She will make her own choices. She will no longer let people influence her decisions. And in the end, she will rather die in her own volition.

There are no more words to say. She faced the people behind her. And then, she took a step back before they can say anything.

As she fell down, the last thing she saw is that very familiar face looking down at her. She would have never thought that she will die in that person's hands. That person who is supposed to be her supporter. She saved that person, but that person became the cause of her end. Truly, you cannot trust people unconditionally, lest they betray you.

The freezing water greeted her. She did not try to fight it. The sea water around her is like a cold blanket made of darkness, oddly comforting her dying heart. She finally felt at peace, something that she stopped feeling a long time ago. In her final moment, a face flashed in her mind. Her hand unconsciously tried to caress that face.

Where did it go wrong? What did she do wrong?

Mira smiled bitterly. It all started with him, isn't it? Its not wrong to fall in love. What's wrong is to love the wrong person unconditionally, to the point of not leaving anything for yourself.

The lack of oxygen made her consciousness slowly fade. But even at this moment, she still love that man. But if she were given another chance, Mira swore that she will never fall in love with him again.

This is her last thought before death embraced her.
