2 Not How You Expected This Day To Go

The next day you arrive early, eager to start off on the right foot. You head in, expecting to get started on paperwork or to run some errand but nothing could have prepared you for what you see.

"Good Morning Ms Duncan," she says as if completely ignorant to the fact that she is barely dressed.

You die over and over again. Unable to tear your eyes away, your heart aching as though you have a miny heart attack with her every movement, you simply stand and stare. She hasn't even glanced your way since you stepped inside but surely she must know the effect this is having on you. She's practically glistening.

It takes a moment but before long you realize that she is actually glistening. It's only then that you realize she is soaking wet. She turns to face you and you die yet again. With her whole body on display through the wet fabric, your mind is absolutely blank. There's no way you'll be able to get anything done if this is what you have to go through every day.

"So are you going to pass me the towel?" she asks, gesturing to the sofa you're standing beside.

Sure enough, there's a towel there. Based on her tone and the structure of the sentence, you come to the conclusion that she had asked you, at some point prior, to hand it to her but with your mind floating aimlessly before, you can't recall any such request. Still, you manage to hand her the towel.

Her hand brushes your's briefly as she takes it from you and you swear you feel sparks fly.

"Thanks," and with that, she turns back to the face the mirror she was standing in front of before.

You decide to leave whilst you still can.

The minute the door closes behind you, you breathe a sigh of relief. Shaking your head, you walk briskly back towards the lobby. Still on the top floor, you decide to take a look around. This proves useful as you find a snack bar from which you eagerly pour yourself some coffee. It calms your nerves but before you have the chance to fully take in the sensation, someone speaks up.

"Rough morning?"

You nearly cause a spill as you jump in surprise. Turning around, you come face to face with another familiar face. Its owner extends a hand towards you.

"Rebecca Lorei."

You take her hand giving a polite nod as you continue sipping your coffee, trying not to be too starstruck. Face to face with your boss's sister, you realize for the first time just how similar they are in looks. The lady in front of you is like a younger version of your boss. The image of her, in her office flashes in your mind and you feel your cheeks begin warming. You quickly withdraw your hand and turn to get more coffee.

"Skylar ... Duncan."

The minute you finish saying your name her eyes widen in surprise.

"So you're the one she mentioned yesterday?"

Before I can answer, someone clears their throat. We both turn around and I'm surprised at who I find in the doorway.

"Hey sis, come to join us?" Rebecca asks playfully as she grabs a cup of coffee for herself.

Instead of replying immediately, Katherine continues looking at you and it's only then that you realize she's been staring at you all this time. The intense look in her eyes causes you to shift from foot to foot as you wonder what's going to happen next. Instead of saying anything to you, however, she turns to face her sister and asks her to pour a cup for her as well, black. She takes it and leaves without another word.

"Mysterious isn't she?"

You laugh. Rebecca really doesn't know when to stop, does she? You don't have to wait long as she soon launches into asking you about practically all sections of your life. You still have your guards up, however, due to the incident earlier and easily manage to wiggle your way out of most of her questions without giving up any compromising information. Soon, work hours draw near and you both hear others pouring into the lobby. Heading out of the break room together, you pause in the hallway, saying your goodbyes, before heading off in different directions.

You walk back to Katherine's office, this time making sure to knock before you enter. She invites you in and you take a seat across from her at her desk. She still hasn't told you what exactly your job would be and it's only now that you realize you could have placed yourself in a very compromising position by practically accepting whatever offer she had on the table the day before. You had spoken about what the job would entail in general but hadn't gotten down to the details.

As you continue to ponder this, she passes a stack of papers to you. Looking down at the front page, you notice that it's the contract. Lifting it up off the table, you are surprised at how weighty it feels. She notices the puzzled look on your face and laughs.

"You only need to sign the first four pages. The rest simply explain, thoroughly, each point mentioned on those four pages."

Looking back at the papers in front of you, you realize she's right but even so, there's no way you'll be able to read all of this today whilst doing your job. Before you can mention anything about this, however, she speaks up again.

"You can take the rest of the day off to familiarize yourself with the details. If you come across anything that you require further explanation on, feel free to call me."

She hands you a card with a phone number on it. You take it and stand, hesitantly. You had expected to just start work right away. In fact, if this was any other job, you're pretty certain you would be knee-deep in work already but here you are, getting your first day off. You make it to the door before realizing that you haven't said goodbye.

"Goodbye Ms Lor- ... I mean Katherine."

She looks up and smiles.

"Good Morning, Ms Duncan."
