96 Chapter 96

Life was hard for Katrina. She thought she was blessed child when the local mage at her village her talent in magic.

The mage was an old woman who had retired and decided to spend the rest of the time at her home village. She had often said she was just a weak mage and Katrina herself was even weaker.

But she merely thought that the old woman was being humble. She had thought that she would grow into power and work to change the world. How ambitious she had been.

But reality was different. It did all it could to shatter her self esteem. As she grew up to be 16 years old, all she could manage were a couple of weak light spells.

Seeing her so depressed, the old mage had suggested her to find work at the nearest city. One of the reasons her growth was slow that she didn't have access to the right knowledge. The old woman was a water mage. She knew little about being a light mage. Although she had imparted her knowledge to Katrina, she could only help her a tiny bit in regards to ability as a light mage. Working in the city would perhaps provide her an opportunity to learn better and improve.

How naive she had been when she thought the 5 gold coins she had got from the mage before coming to the city was a lot. Blossom city was something Katrina had never experienced before. The city was so big that it could hold a few dozens of her village. She had stared at the city wide eyed the first time she came here.

She approached the mage association at first. They outright rejected her. She went to the families even, still got rejected.

Staying at the city for a few days made her realize how expensive it was. The 5 gold coins she thought was a lot were depleted by half very quickly. She had thought it would last her weeks if not months.

With a dejected heart she finally used the letter of recommendation the old mage had written her. She had initially thought of depending on her own abilities but she failed. She had to use the old mage's name.

She was still happy when she got the contract. They must have seen something in her that gave her the contract. She was very happy that day. She had decided to eat at a good place to celebrate.

But what a decision that turned out to be. The place was priced more than she had expected. It was more expensive than all the money she had spent in the city so far.

She was left red faced when even the identity of a future mage of the Jhonson family wasn't enough to get her out of the situation. She was almost about to cry when that boy showed up.

He paid the bill and left saying that he didn't require the payment since he was leaving the city. The boy was good looking enough, not overly though. He had told his name was Aaron. He didn't even give his address so that she could repay her. She soon forgot the incident once her new life started.

It was only a few days later she realized that she had indeed signed a devil's contract with the Jhonson family. She was paid only a sliver of what others were and was contracted for a long time. With her low level she was ordered around by everyone. Even by some non mage members. She used to cry herself to sleep at nights.

She had once again rekindled her hopes when all of a sudden she was picked as a retinue for the son of the branch Lord. She had seen the Diviere for a couple of times. She had indeed been enamoured by his looks. He had refined looks and actually looked dashing in his mage robes. He was already a blue level wind mage. She was told she would be working at the artifact making division at the central city. She had thought her life was finally going to get better.

The journey had started pretty well. A party of six had begun the journey. As a woman and a mage, she rarely had to do anything. She along with Diviere stayed inside the carriage for most part.

Diviere was charming and knowledgable. She knew he was trying to win her over. He flirted with her continously as the journey continued.

Although she liked the attention she recieved from Diviere, she wasn't ready to be in any relationship. She kept him at Bay and refused his advances when he tried to close in on her.

Diviere though soon started to show his colours. Gone was the charming personality and the compliments. He had said at last the only reason he had picked her for the journey was because she looked good enough. There was no point in having her with him if she didn't agree to his advances and he would leave her at the next city if she refused him again. This was at the start of the endless grassland.

Katrina had decided she would rather stay at the next city instead of giving away her chastity. Diviere was quiet for a few days where he ignored Katrina completely after she told him his decision.

But she didn't know what got to him one day. He had decided to force himself on her. She shouted for help but the other four people acted as if they didn't hear anything. The carriage didn't even stop.

Diviere got his hands in places which was never touched by anyone. He had opened half her robe and told her he would cut her up if resisted. She still resisted with all her might. She lacked the physical strength to fight with him. How much she rued that she didn't know an attacking skill. All she knew was to light places up.

Diviere had torn off her undergarments when the carriage had stopped suddenly. She was crying by the time this happened. There was some shouting from outside. She couldnt make out what it was about. She had all other things going in her mind at that moment.

Diviere cursed and looked out of the window. Something must be serious that he got out.

After a while there was no more shouting and someone had opened the carriage door.

"Don't come in." She said between her crying.

"Ummm. Deviere is gone. You can come out now. " Was the unexpected reply she got.

She peeked from under her arms. It was someone else really. He allowed her some time to dress up. Thankfully the robe wasn't torned.

He even allowed her to drink water and maintained distance with her. She didn't really want someone too close with her for the moment.

It was later that she recognized it was the same boy who had footed her bill that day. Looks like he was bound to save her. She could tell he himself didn't know what to say to her when he asked if she wanted to "eat something". Who would want to eat something at such situations. But that question did diffuse the tension in her a bit.

That silly question helped her believe he didn't mean any harm. Soon they had left the place on his artifact. She was flying. She enjoyed the experience so much that she had nearly forgotten what almost happened to her. How envious she had been of the abilities of a space mage.

He was a good listener. She had talked non stop. More to keep her mind from drifting to the episode. But she was truly happy during the journey. She had realized she had been so happy after a long time. They travelled on his artifact with using the gates in between to shorten the journey. Although he stood close to her, he didn't make any unwanted move on her. He was a gentleman in that regards.

She was sad when he bid her farewell again. Once he left that she reliazed she had forgotten to pay him back for the bill he had paid. But she made a decision. She would somehow travel to Tulip city and find him and repay him. Whether that was the only reason, she was unsure about that herself.

Authors note: the space provided for authors only allows for 500 words and sadly I have a long rant today. This is the first time I am writting from a pov of the opposite gender so please forgive the mistakes and the stereotyping. But as many would have guessed, she would be an important character in the novel. She herself would end up being op. So I decided to give a little background to her. And no I don't have too much romance planned.
