95 Chapter 95

Aaron was lucky enough that he didn't have to wait for the fair for a long time. He had just another month to go for the fair. He had thought of displaying his atomic blade at the fair first. Then he had an inspiration about one of it's other uses.

He had once used a spade with an atomic edge to dig up the ground to bury Diviere's retinue. What if displayed that?

Sure atomic edges swords or daggers were good. But they were at the end just really sharp swords. How many people could actually use them successfully? They were good to use with something like telekinesis, but just how many people could do that? If a normal mage or a person tried to use it against a fire mage for example, they would be burnt to ashes before even getting near him.

But a spade or a pick like that, it would revolutionise the mining industry. Just think about it. Instead of all the energy and strength required to mine, you could just press the pick to the ground and be done with it.

The amount of money and labour saved would be drastic. And the output perhaps would increase several folds. He was sure such a invention would gather praise.

Fair to be honest didn't had Aaron worried at all. What he was really worried about was his fighting strength. Although he had grown stronger and had more than enough strength to face a group of normal people and the magical beasts, he was far from fighting a mage with true ability.

A couple of mages were able to tie him down and escape with a prisoner, that was really insulting to his pride. It wasn't that he didn't try different things. He read different novels on earth, how people could bend space or how send spatial attacks, but how ? What was that? How could he achieve that? He tried but failed. He tried using his gates to cut people apart. But no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't move his gates once he formed them, not could he force open a gate within a person.

As he was thinking one day playing with the usual cube he was used to playing during the academy days. The same type of cube he was used to expand and contract. It had become a habit for him to play with subconsciously now when he was deep thought.

He looked at the cube at his hands. How was that cube expanded and contracted? When the same cube was expanded and contracted, was the density same? He had a sudden idea. What if he could some how increase the density of an area? If he contracted space around a person, wouldn't the person be trapped?

First he tried his theory with a ball of paper. As he increased his contraction of space around the crumbled ball of paper, he could see the ball shrinking in size due to the shrinking space. This gave him immense hope.

Once he was successful, he tried to get his hand in the space he had contracted, the feeling he got was like he was touching a solid surface. He couldnt get his hands across the space to touch the paper.

Next he tried the same with an animal. He had to work really hard and it took a lot of will and repeated efforts. But he was successful in the end. Although he couldn't effect the animal directly and couldn't crush it like he did with the ball of paper, but it was trapped and unable to move in the contracted space.

The best he could define was that the space had turned hard. The best thing was that it didn't actually conflict with the will of the animal. He had initially thought that the spell might fail because of that. But seeing the success elevated his doubts. Although it took a lot concentration and will power to take hold of the spell on an animal, but once he successfully completed the spell, it didn't take that much effort to maintain it.

One of the down side was that it took a lot of power to maintain the spell and the area he could solidify wasn't very large. But luckily for him, he wasn't short on magical power. His power had never stopped growing till now. And it didnt feel it would hit a bottleneck anytime soon.

The only question which bothered Aaron now was that why didn't the spell clash with the will of the sentient being? Theoritically the animal should have resisted his spell and be able to break out of the confinement. What Aaron needed was a human test subject.

One of the features of the world was that it had no concept of slavery. You might have a bad contract like in the case of Katrina or be possible poorly paid for your work, but there was no slavery. Usually Aaron liked this concept along with how their was no racial discrimination here based on the colour of skin or appearence. Only discrimination here was based on power.

That was unavoidable in itself. Where power and money was concerned, there was bound to be factors which caused discrimination. Those with power will never let people weaker than them stand on the level as them.

Even in a group of wolves there was a alpha male which was the strongest and the leader of the pack. No other wolf held the same position.

Aaron though wouldnt have minded a slave at this point. No normal human would usually agree to be a part of a mage experiment so dangerous. It wasn't that he didn't try. He had offered handsome rewards for anyone who was willing. When he explained the experiment to them, they dissappeared fast.

Only ones who showed any interest to him were addicts and drunkards. He rejected them outright. He wanted reliable people who could provide accurate description of what they faced and felt. Plus he didn't really want to support their habit.

He was left with no other option then to post a mission at the mage association hoping that some level mage would probably agree with his request. Having a mage was benificial for him as well. His main opponents would be mages. For normal people he wouldnt need so much of an effort. Only the mages would require such spells.

Having a mage was the best test subject he could ask for. He could see if the spell would clash with the will of the mage. Also the experiment itself was safer for a mage in general. With their will protecting them from a spell directly affecting their body, they would perhaps be safer in case of an accident.

Things still didn't go as Aaron had planned. He got no one to accept his mission. There were a couple of enquiries , but once the mages heard what he was planning to do and how he could solidify the space, no one was willing. Even if they knew their will would protect them, which mage would take a chance with their life. What if they were crushed to a pulp. Aaron ofcourse wouldnt be responsible for any such accidents not was he willing to guarantee that an accident won't occur, he himself lacked complete understanding of this particular spell.

With all the experiments and wait, the time for the fair had come.
