91 Chapter 91

After dropping off Katrina at the Jhonson family, Aaron found an inn to rest. It was almost dark by the time he settled at an inn he liked.

The grassland was one of the biggest areas Aaron had to travel on his own. Sleeping in the open for such a long time made him appreciate the comforts of an inn even more.

After having a good meal, Aaron soon fell asleep. He needed that.

Next morning Aaron woke up because he noticed a presence lingering outside his door. Aaron had grown the habit to sleep with his detection skill activated. At places such as the inn, he kept the range smaller to cover his doors and windows at max because there would always be people moving around otherwise.

But when a person moved so close to his door, Aaron was woken up by his spell. It was a little surprising for Aaron. He was dressed in a robe when he rented a room here. Surely there wouldnt be people trying to mess with a mage or steal something from him.

They must be here for a different reason.

As Aaron was thinking on how to act, whoever was outside knocked on his door. That helped Aaron decided what to do next. He had to open the door.

He quicky pulled a robe over him and went to open the door.

Outside he saw a mage waiting for him.

"Sorry to wake you up Sir. But are you Mage Aaron? "

"Yes, I am. Who are you? "

"I am Peter. A representative for the Johonson family of the August city. I got to know your esteemed name from the inn keeper. He didn't want to give your name away, but I was rather insistent. So do forgive him. " Aaron saw the inn keeper standing a little farther away. He looked apologetic for his actions. It also seemed he was the one who personally guided this Peter fellow to his room.

Aaron siganlled to the inn keeper that it was alright and he could leave. It wasn't his fault. He was caught in a hard place between two mages.

He sighed in relief and quickly left leaving the two mages alone.

"Peter was it? Come in." Aaron had an inkling as to why he was here. He called him in and he himself settled on the bed. He had definitely wanted to sleep some more.

Peter sat on the lone chair in the room facing Aaron.

"So Peter, tell me why are you looking for me? " Aaron asked Peter as if he had no clue as to what Peter was here for.

"Well you see. Something very interesting happened yesterday. A young girl came to our branch yesterday. She said she was a new member of our family who was recruited at place called Blossoms city. "

"I have personally not heard of her, but the papers she presented seemed to be authentic. She also narrated that she was part of a group of six which was travelling to Tulip city. "

"On her journey they were attacked by some people who killed four their retainers and kidnapped one of our direct bloodline descendant. She was miraculously saved by a travelling mage who helped her cross the grassland and bring her safely to the city. "

"When questioned further, she didn't seem to know the name of the mage who saved her or where he went after he drooped her off. "

"But you see, we were told no new mage had entered any of the mage association or the other three family establishment. So the only place we could possibly find them was at an inn. " The main told the story in such a tone as if he didn't know Aaron was the said mage.

"Yes, I was the one who saved her. Now what do you really want? " Aaron asked in a tone implying he was tired of hearing his roundabout way. He wanted to know the main reason as to why he was here.

"Of course I want nothing. I thank you for saving one of our own. The only thing I want to know was what had really happened out there. "

"Also don't insult our intellegence saying that you don't know. I understand the girl lying to probably protect you. But you should know better than to lie to us. "

The main said in the same easy pace as before. Although his tone was much more serious now.

"Are you threatening me? I am a space mage. If I really was guilty of something and wanted to escape, I would have easily escaped by now."

"Actually, if I was responsible for the dissappearence of your descendant, why would I leave the girl alive ? I would have killed her. You wouldn't have even known about it that way. "

That was right. If Aaron had really wanted to get rid of the group, why would he leave the girl alive. It would be stupid to leave her alive. It only raised suspicion over him like now.

"Oh, we would have found out. We have our ways. You don't need to worry about that. Probably you left the girl alive in the first place to make it seem like you weren't involved. We would have eventually found out that you were making the journey from the records of whichever faction you belonged to. We all have our sources for that. You might be working with the girl. "

"Only thing I don't get is the motive. The girl almost have a slave contract. No one would pay such a price to get rid of someone like Diviere. You are our only suspect. "

Aaron noticed a few things from his statement. The first thing was how Aaron's movement was mostly recorded with the mage Association. If some one really followed his journey, they would find out about the route he took easily.

Second they all had spies in the different factions. If the Jhonson family had spies in the other factions, they surely had spies in their ranks as well.

The man was trying to put pressure on Aaron revealing the fact to Aaron.

"Are you threatening me? Because I have no reason to hide. The only reason the girl was left untouched because she was in the carriage the whole time. She is a light mage with ordianry power. She wouldn't have been able to fight them anyway. "

"As for me. I am a space mage as well. My combat level isnt really high. I saw how the attackers killed the four men with spear like roots. They kidnapped the young Lord and took him away with the help of a space mage of their own. I only approached the carriage once they left and found the girl crying within. "

"I let the horses go as I couldnt drive a carriage and brought the girl with me to this city. "

"But if you think you could put the blame on me for that, forget it. I would move to the association at once and report on how you were trying to threaten me instead of thanking me for saving a life. "

Aaron wouldn't have said anything to the man. But in the end he thought of Katrina. Aaron knew they couldnt do anything to him. Even if they found the bodies and dug them out. The wounds on them would make sure Aaron didn't have anything to do with it. Plus he was space mage. No one would believe it that he overpowered four men out of which two were mages and kidnap another mage who had combat abilities.

Jhonson family accusations won't stand and they would become a laughing stock.

Even Peter knew Aaron was right about that. He still insisted on his stand to find out about what had actually happened. And from the looks of it, the girl was indeed lucky that the space mage showed up when he did.

And he knew pressuring Aaron wasn't good for his reputation. He only did it seeing his age. He thought that he would yield under his pressure since he would have lacked experience. He did talk, but Peter was experienced enough to know that he was still hiding something.

But the main thing was that he was sure the boy in front of him and the girl from before didn't have anything to do with the incident. But the thing about sharp roots which killed people. That gave a bad prenomination to Peter. Others may not know what it indicated. But he had some clues about it. He just thought they would only demand ransom in terms of money.

He wanted to know all that Aaron knew. He had interrerogated the girl. She really didn't know anything and was indeed in the carriage the whole time.

But he was sure the boy knew more. But his hands were tied.

The boy was right, he had saved one of their people. If he made it too difficult for him, that would set a bad precedent. No one would help people from Jhonson family if they found them in trouble.

Peter thanked Aaron for saving the girl and left abruptly. Such a change in behaviour had Aaron stumped for a while. But he more or less understood his position.

Aaron did know the part he was hiding wasn't much and Diviere will reveal it if he got free.

The only important thing Aaron hid was that he knew the people were from antimage association and he had seen such a forest mage before and knew they had abnormal powers.

He decided to leave the very same day as soon as he could. He knew he would be again approached by the Jhonson family if he stayed.
