85 Chapter 85

Next Morning Aaron had his breakfast under the eyes of Devito who was already waiting for Aaron even before he was up.

"Do you want to eat? " Aaron asked Devito who kept staring at him.

"No. No Sir Mage. I already had it earlier while I was waiting. "

"Then could you please stop staring and let me eat in peace ? " Aaron spoke in an annoyed tone. You had your food, now let me have mine. It's not asking for too much.

"Sure Sir mage. I apologise for my behaviour. " Devito said and moved on to a different table from Aaron's.

Aaron sighed. He couldnt blame the man. He was just too eager.

Aaron finally finished his breakfast and was ready to leave.

"Alright Devito. Lead the way. "

"Yes Sir mage. If you may follow me. "

You had to give it to Devito though. The man was almost twice as old as Aaron. But he treated Aaron as his senior without thinking. He was specially polite and looked after what he said after yesterday's near fiasco.

They soon reached Devito's place. It was a place in the suburbs of the city to say. Away from the normal hustle and bustle of the city.

He had a large house with well maintained garden. It looked like this fellow who was begging at the mage Association gates was actually pretty well to do.

He even had a servant waiting for them at the gates.

"Welcome back Master Devito. " The servant greeted Devito.

Aaron could see Devito was eyeing him asking to greet Aaron as well.

"And welcome to you too young Master. " The servant was polite to Aaron as well but he treated him like a normal guest. It wasn't his fault for not recognizing Aaron as a mage. Aaron was dressed in normal attires after all.

"Forgive him Sir mage. I had forgotten to inform him of your arrival. " He asked of Aaron.

"It's okay Devito. I don't need too many formalities. Just carry on with whatever you have to show."

"Yes. Yes, please follow this way. "

Even though he had a servant, but Devito himself led the way. Aaron couldn't help but admire the man. It looked like he really wanted Aaron to like his stuff.

When the man led Aaron inside his gates, Aaron was really shocked at what he saw.

This place was absolutely amazing. The house was full of things which Aaron had never seen here in this world.

The whole room was full of mechanical instruments and contraptions. He saw a series of off looking devices and possibly spring winded machines which seemed to be moving on its own.

The whole place was full of similar things. It almost made Aaron believe like he was at the home of a mad scientist from the old times.

He saw some machines with gears and pulleys. He failed to understand their purposes but it did fascinate him.

The first thing which Aaron really noticed was a giant telescope. Yes, a telescope. He had never seen one being used here. He had once thought of making one. He knew the science behind it. But he could never find the required glasses for it. How do you get those kinds of glasses made?

But this guy here had it made. Devito saw Aaron starting at his telescope. He began to explain its purpose.

"I call this a telescope. With this you could see objects far away from you as if it was right next to you. "

"You could also observe the stars with it. You could observe them much clearly with this. I am also certain that there are other planets in the sky as well. All the stars we see aren't actually stars. "

Devito quickly explained his understanding of the night sky to Aaron. Aaron to his own surprise was really impressed with the man. This was the first time he had heard of that concept here.

He took a look at the telescope and tried seeing out of it.

The image was clear but it was inverted.

Besides him Devito was surprised to see Aaron use the telescope. He was using it correctly and looked from the right end.

Mages were really great. He figured out his invention at once.

He also knew what his invention lacked though. He didn't wait to admit the shortcoming.

"As you could see, there is a little problem with the telescope. You see things upside down. "

"I have been tinkering with it lately, but it has me stumped. " He spoke honestly.

Aaron decided to help the fellow out.

"Have though of using a mirror to invert the mage? "

"Mirror?" Devito looked like he didn't understand what Aaron meant. Than all of a sudden the idea flashed like lightning across his mind.

He was excited like he had never been.

What a clever way to solve the problem. He couldnt help but praise the young mage in front of him.

"Amazing. In a few words you have solved the problem which had me struggling for a long time. Thank you for your wisdom Sir mage. "

"Do not thank me. I have just helped with a small issue. You must be praised for coming up with such a fabulous invention. "

"It is but a small thing. Nothing like the artifacts the mages use. " Devito tried to be humble.

"I have one thing to ask of you though, you have such a good invention , why aren't you out there displaying it to the world? I am sure it will attract attention. "

This was a right thing to ask. This was a revolutionary invention. Specially anyone who studies the sky would be thrilled with something like this.

Normal armies had such a use for a telescope as well.

"Well. I once approached a mage with something I had made. He showed no interest over it and called it a waste of time. I even tried to approach the king with my goods, but I failed to even meet him. So, I haven't later on shared any of my things with anyone. "

"You were the only one who had shown me some courtesy with answering my question yesterday. So I just thought you might appreciate my inventions."

"You are the first person in a while with whom I have shared my work."

Devito had a sad look on his face. Not having any recognition for your work is one the things which lets down people. Not many could overcome it.

Devito though still continued with his work. That was a big thing in itself.

"I praise your dedication to science Devito. Now show me what else you got. "

Devito led Aaron around around his house showing him his work.

Turned out Devito was really skilled with mechanical devices. He used springs and levers in a variety of ways to make simple machines. Although they didn't serve any practical purposes yet, but they were incredible theory wise.

"Look I want to show you something. " Devito said.

He placed a feather on the table. He then user a device which he had made to produce extremely loud foucussed sound towards the feather. It was like an air horn.

That device in itself was incredible.

"Sorry for that noise. But did you notice the feather? It moved because of the sound! "

"I have a theory behind it. I believe sound is a wave. It carries energy and it needs a medium to travel. " Devito said.

Aaron was really impressed with him. He really liked the fresh approach of Devito. He questioned things and observed things in daily life and tried to figure out why things happened.

It was a purely scientific approach.

The mages also did that. But they never really went all the way. Once science solved their purpose, they rarely went ahead another step. They never went deep on a topic or a theory. They learned the basics till their magic worked like they wanted. Rest was pure willpower as far as a mage was concerned.

But Devito was different. He didn't have magic. All of his time was decdicated towards understanding his findings. He was really good at what he did.

Across his house Aaron could see such examples.

When Devito led Aaron to his back yard it turned out to be even more amazing than his house.
