74 Chapter 74

Thank you Bonobo for being my Patron. Every contribution helps, no matter how much it is.

The details of the mission was pretty common.

There was a gang of bandits who looted whoever they met on the roads. The worst thing about this gang was that it was supposedly led by a mage. The people looted weren't able to identify what kind of a mage he was, but the association had assumed him to be a violet level mage. Any one stronger won't loot common people. It wasn't worth it.

They would go for stronger targets.

A few mages in the past had gone in search of the bandits, but they didn't find anyone. The bandits were smart enough to be hidden in the forest along the road.

At the end, the Mage Association decided to put it up as a mission.

The gang had an estimated size of 6-8 members.

For a green level combat mage, this would be a piece of cake. 8 people would be dead before they even took a step. Aaron was only a Indigo level mage.

But he had enough confidence in himself to be able to face 8 humans. He had faced worse creatures in the desolate area.

If Aaron was an elementalist, it would have been very difficult for him to do this mission.

It was simply because the area usually hunted by the bandits was a few days away. Aaron lacked the money to get a space ring and carrying supplies in hand for such a journey wouldn't look good on a mage.

Aaron could simply make the journey daily and come back later in the evening and it would still leave him a few hours to search the bandits.

He had enough confidence in his detection abilities that he could search for the bandits.

He asked for map for the area where the bandits supposedly hunted and how to reach there.

He didnt have anything else to do today. He could leave for the mission but decided to wait for the day. It was already past mid day. And getting back in the evening wouldn't leave him anytime at all.

Travelling at night had its own perils. He didn't want to get lost again. That was a bad experience.

He got some supplies he might need during his travels and called it a day.

He was going bandit hunting the next day.

Things didn't go as planned though. Aaron was confident enough to find the bandits. He had the skygate and his detection range was pretty good. This should have been a piece of cake for him.

But it had already been 3 days and he had no success. He tried everything he could, but he couldn't find the bandits.

Meanwhile as he was searching for them, there was a report about a bandit attack not far from where he was. That was an embarrassment he didn't want. But it wasn't something he could have helped. He was already doing what he could.

But the bandit report gave him an idea. Maybe he was going at it the wrong way.

He was searching for them, but couldn't find them. While they attacked normal travellers not far away from him.

Chances were they knew he was near about and avoided them. Plus they had some kind of a technique which hid them.

Although it might have been a coincidence, but the idea had its merit.

Aaron went to a cloth store and bought a normal set of clothes.

He put his sword once again on his waist and joined a group of travellers on the route. He hoped that the group would be attacked.

He might have been the first Traveller who wanted to get attacked by the bandits.

If the other travellers in the group heard him, they would perhaps be the first to attack him, ofcourse if they didnt knew he was a mage. Being a mage changed all that.

But, Aaron pulled the role well. He masked as a young guard who wanted to travel. He had some experience doing it afterall.

It was 3 days on the road and there were no signs of any bandits. If this continued for a couple of days, soon they will be out of the area where the bandits usually preyed.

Aaron was dissapointed. Having being in the desolate area alone for so long had made him aloof again. He felt it hard connecting to someone to have a normal conversation.

He had always found it difficult to have normal conversations in this world. After a long time he had met Ron with whom he had the resemblance of a normal life. But Thunder king took that away.

Aaron always wondered what happened to him. Did he manage to cross the barrier? Or was he stuck on the other side. He hoped he was torn apart by the beasts in the desolate area.

Or rather he hoped he survived. He had scores to settle with him.

Another day passed and Aaron had nothing to show. Although it had been only a few days since he picked up the mission, he felt anxious. He literally didn't have anything else to do. He had picked up his very first task and he was struggling with it.

With nothing happening he reached their destined city. Everyone else other than Aaron gave a sigh of relief. They blessed their good luck to make it safely. Their was news of bandits in the area after all.

Aaron was in a dilemma.

"What to do? Should I go back once again as a normal traveller or do I go back as a mage? " He had no one to answer those questions.

Aaron still felt they somehow avoided him when he was searching for them as a mage. So he decided to once again try as a normal traveller.

At worst he wouldn't succeed. He could again begin his search as a mage after that.

After a night of proper rest, Aaron once again decided he would join a traveller's group the next day.

"Weren't you the one who arrived here just yesterday? I remember seeing you yesterday. " Said the man who was leading a group of travellers to blossom city.

Did he recognize him from the sword? Not many people carried a sword around here. Plus the ones who carried it were much more older than Aaron.

"Yes, I got here yesterday. I had to meet a client for a long term agreement. But it didn't work."

"I will be returning back to the Blossom city with nothing to do here."

Aaron didn't want any issues, so he came up with a decent excuse. He could have shown the mage badge, but he wanted the travellers to act as normally as they can during the journey.

"I see. You can join. But I will keep an eye on you. You aren't permitted to leave the sight of me or my men. Get it?"

"Got it."

Looks like the man was doubting Aaron for a completely different reason.

Aaron didn't mind though. It wasnt as if the man could do something.

Two days later, Aaron just had a good dinner and was sleeping peacefully.

He suddenly opened his eyes.

"So, they finally showed up."
