63 Chapter 63

Aaron saw there was no guard at the gates of the Association. Aaron by now was used to seeing guards posted at the mage association branches. He was also used to seeing better looking buildings. He entered through the gates which was open.

If it was the previous world, a common person would find ot difficult to even enter such a building without being questioned by the guards.

As he entered the building he saw two men sitting around a table. One guy, who looked about 30ish had his feet up on the table and was perhaps sleeping. The other who looked old enough to be the father of the sleeping guy was reading a book. To Aaron's surprise, both of them seemed to be wearing a robe. A geniune robe!

Aaron could already get a mage sort of feeling seeing the robes. He started thinking if they had that broom parked somewhere.

He pulled himself out of his dreams. He cleared his throat to gather attention.

"Excuse me. Is this the Mage Association?"

The sleeping guy opened an eye, took a glance at Aaron and closed it again.

The older guy looked at it and shook his head. He closed his book and turned towards Aaron.

"Ofcourse it is. Who else would wear such robes? No one wants to be punished now, would they? "

Punished for wearing robes? What was this about?

"What do you want boy?"

"I heard if I could get a letter of recommendation from you, I can get my identity papers. "

The man understood what this was about.

"So, another of you have come. We always get a few of you who wants the papers for free. "

"Just so that you know, you can get the letter here. But what do we get in return?"

Return? Was he asking for a bribe?

"But..."

"No buts. A letter is given to someone who has some worth to a mage. Whats your worth to us?"

"But I.."

"But what? You dont look like the son of someone important. If you were, you wouldnt have come to us anyways. "

"But I am..."

"Enough. Scram. Although I cant kill you, I could still turn you into a toad. "

Turn me into a toad? Could magic do that? He wasn't taught in that way. He was taught magic had strong scientific theory behind it. Was the magic in this place so advanced? Or was it different here and like the magic he had read about on earth.

"Will you let me finish!" this time Aaron shouted with a loud voice before the old man could interrupt him.

The old man was stunned hearing Aaron shout. No one ordinary would dare to do that. Was he some scion of a mage family? His clothes didnt look like it. No one from a mage family would wear such clothes. Was he sent by some important mage who was visiting? If it was, the old man might be in trouble.

The younger man had opened his eyes as well. His feet was still on the table, but he looked at Aaron interestingly.

"As I was saying, I am Aaron Rosil and I am a mage. "

Silence prevailed for a few seconds. The younger man closed his eyes again.

"You fool. Do you know the punishment for the crime of pretending to be a mage? You would be arrested and prisoned at the minimum. Leave now, I would pretend I didnt hear anything. You are too young. Mend your ways."

Aaron shook his head. These fellows refused to understand.

He had no other way then to demonstrate. He looked at the book which was on the table. He focussed on it and levitated it to his hand. He opened it to see the characters used were the same as he knew. This would make his work much easier.

Then he turned to look at old man who was staring at him.

A minute later, Aaron was sitting with the old man who introduced himself as Vanir. The younger man was sitting too, with his feet down this time. He was Jacob.

"We are sorry for the behaviour before. We just couldn't believe it would be a mage in such attire. What happened to your robe?"

Seeing Aaron not replying, the old man spoke again.

"Ofcourse something disastrous must have happened for you to not be wearing your robes. Can we see your mage identity Badge?"

Aaron had a weird expression on his face seeing this. He didnt have anything. He did have his old badge. But that was stuck in the spatial ring.

"Ah you must be from a mage family. We definitely cant ask to see your badge. "

The old man took Aaron's expression to be something else.

Aaron couldnt think of how to swindle this old man. He talked about things Aaron had no clue of. Aaron decided he would go with partial truth.

"Actually I dont have a robe or a badge. I woke up a month ago in the forest nearby. I don't remember anything before that. Only thing I remember is that my home was in the country of Morad and my name is Aaron. I somehow knew I could use magic."

Amnesia is a wonderful thing.

"Do you mean the forbidden forest? The guards stationed there didnt stop you? This should have been reported to us."

"Well actually the guards did see me. It took a few copper coins to pass." Selling the guards put more focus on them than Aaron. Plus they were negligent in their duty. He kind of did come from the other side of the barrier after all. They were stationed to report those kind of things exactly.

"I will have a talk with them. They are going lazy day by day. "

"You have no clue about how you got here?" This time it was the younger man who questioned Aaron.

"No. As I said I just woke up one day and found that I was in the forest. Oh, and I was physically hurt at a lot of places. "

Aaron showed the different wounds on his body which he had got from the desolate area.

The two people with him were shocked seeing so many wounds.

"Its definitely the work of those from Anti mage society. They always catch some mages who arent apt at defending themselves. The amount of torture induced upon you. No wonder you have lost your memory. "

"What type of a mage are you?" the older man continued.

"I think I am a space mage. "

"A space mage. No wonder you were caught. You are young and inexperienced. Its a pity. "

"What I am interested to know is how did you escape? I can understand why they took you to the forbidden forest. With the guards lax, it is the better place to hide. But if it was people from the anti mage society, they would have killed you after they were done torturing and questioning. " The younger man injected in between.

"I have no clue. " Aaron kept on pretending like he had no idea.

"Stop doubting everything. Young people shouldnt be so cynical. Plus, he is a mage anyways. There is no point in him lying. " The older man chided the younger one.

He then turned towards Aaron and asked "So, what do you need from us?"
