62 Chapter 62

Turned out Abraham didnt live in the town of Green herbs. He had a small house at the outskirts. The architecture of the house was simple and was made of wood. It didnt look much different then the ones Aaron had seen so far in this world.

The first thing he did after reaching Abraham's place was to have a bath.

He had a good bath with warm water and a soap this time. He finally felt clean and a civilized human. The clothes Abraham promised was an old pair with a a couple if patches on it to cover up the holes. But it was still much better than the rags Aaron wore. His hair was a mess as well, but he would worry about it later.

He caught his reflection and found himself look much older than what he looked 6 months ago. The desolate area definitely took a toll on him.

He had a warm and simple meal that night. It was cooked in a slightly different manner than what he was used to. It was understandable though, even earth had different cuisine and cooking techniques in different parts. It was a satisfying meal which filled Aaron with warmth.

Although he slept on a piece of mattress laid down on the floor, it was still better than whatever he had slept on for the past six months. Moreover he had a shelter over his head and he didnt have to worry about the magical beasts or the monstrous mosquitoes. He slept in bliss. There was one thing that didnt change though. He had the habit of sleeping with his detection spell activated, but nothing disturbed him that night.

Aaron felt it was morning as soon as he had closed his eyes. But he felt refreshed.

"You can have your breakfast with me. But thats as much charity as I can afford. Help me carry a sack of mushrooms to the town." Abraham said.

He called it charity, but he got his own work done as well.

It wasnt something Aaron minded as well. He needed to go the town anyways and needed some information about it. Abraham talked a lot and Aaron knew he could find the basics from him.

Once they finished breakfast, Aaron picked up a sack and headed for the town.

"Where are you from the south? You sound like you are from the country of Morad, right? "

"Right. I was born there."

It was the best part about Abraham. He made a cover story for Aaron by himself.

"It would take some time for you to gather enough money to travel that far. We are in the east at the Country of Nolta. Its a long way down there. "

Abraham sounded like he knew a lot, but the truth was he didn't know much. Morad was the name of the only country he knew in the south. And exactly how far it was, he had no clue. He saw Aaron to be a young and just pretended to be knowledgable. If he thought about it even a little, he would know Aaron was lying. How did someone so young come from so far? Most treasure hunters would get local servants to carry their stuff. Bringing a servant from so far was total waste of money.

No matter how smart he acted, Abraham was a simple man in the end.

"I don't think you have your identity papers with you, do you?"

Identity papers? This world had that?

"I lost mine in the forest. "

"As I thought. It would be better if you get it made. Getting legal jobs is not possible without them. "

"Does it require money?" Aaron asked.

"Ofcourse it does. What kind of question is that. What do you get without money? You wont get any from me though."

"Sell your weapons. It should be enough to pay for it. You would bring suspicion with carrying them around anyways."

"Does the town have a library?" Aaron needed to find out the history of the world. Best place would be a library.

"No. Its a small town. There is a school which teaches children. But nothing like a library. "

School for ordinary children? From the looks of it, the society was already much better than the part he came from.

The town was in a much better shape then what Aaron assumed it would be when Abraham said it was a small town.

The roads were paved. The drains were covered. It even had a few street light kind of things. It had the look of a semi modern town than the ancient cities he was used to seeing.

Carriages were still horse drawn though.

Aaron followed Abraham to merchant he sold his mushrooms too.

Abraham accepted the money after a little haggling.

He showed Aaron the building where he could get his papers made and where he could sell his weapons. He left afterwards.

Aaron decided he would sell his weapons later after making the enquiry for the papers first.

He went in to the building. He found a reception counter and enquired about getting papers made.

"It would cost you 1 silver to get your identity papers. You would also be required to put in your current residence and need to update if you permanently move town. "

Looks like this world had some sort of a system to a keep a track of people.

"Is there a way to get Identity papers without paying?"

Aaron wanted to avoid selling his weapons. They have been with him for a while and it provided a sense of security. He could ofcourse sell the mage stones attached to the weapons as well. But something so expensive would gather attention.

The receptionist looked at the patched clothes Aaron wore and the blade he was carrying. He gave a sigh.

"You dont need to pay if you have a letter of reference from an Authorized mage of the mage association."

"But if you take my suggestion, earning a silver would be easier than getting one of those."

Aaron wasnt worried about how difficult it was. He was more than happy knowing the fact that there was a mage association here too. And it was probably influencial enough if they could get identity papers made with a letter.

"Can you tell me where the mage association office is located at?"

The receptionist felt pity for Aaron. He thought he was another of those who thought he could get a letter from the Association. The mages werent as benevolent as the masses thought them to be. Sure they made various artifacts to make life easy. But they were at exorbitant rates. Normal people could only afford the simplest of them. The politics between the mages was even worse. It was better to keep distance.

He still did his duty and pointed Aaron in the right direction.

The mage association building wasnt what he hoped it to be. It wasnt build in a dominant or a spectacular way. It was more of a simple structure and quite frankly, it was small. He was used to seeing more for the mage association buildings. He wondered what was up with all this.
