38 Chapter 38

"Sharpness." Aaron knew that was the answer he was looking for.

He remembered one of the experiments he had conducted with space gates. The edges of space gates were extremely sharp. But why was that so? If he could figure that out, he could impart that sharpness on his sword. He could just cut through weapons if he could achieve that.

He knew it was a fantastic idea. Now he needed to implement it.

He at once began his experiments again. He asked for rods or sticks of differentl materials from his father.

"Do you finally have something in mind you could work with? " Asked Mike.

"Yes, I have a good idea. I just need decent size samples of different materials to test my theory. "

"Do you need metal only or do you have requirements for size?"

"Anything is fine. Metal, wood, stone, leather general stuff. Dont need anything too expensive. As long as I could cut it, it is fine. "

"Cut it?"

"I will tell you about it once I am finished."

"Alright. Give me sometime while I arrange the things for you. "

"Thank you Father. "

Aaron tested his gate theory with various samples Mike had gathered.

Wood, iron, bronze, steel, copper, leather, bone. Everything was cut clean. The cut was so perfect that it felt they were different pieces to begin with.

Aaron had heard of different cutting techniques on earth. Laser, high pressure water jets, diamond tipped cutters. But he hadnt heard of something cutting so clean. He thought of applying a mini gate the size of a sword on the sword itself. But the gates were stationary. If he tried moving it, it would cease to exist. Aaron was stumped. He thought he had a good idea. But he wasnt getting a break through on its implementation.

Aarob decided to tackle the problem from a different side. What causes things to be sharp. Usually sharp things means the edge is very thin. Force is applied on a small surface area.

So did that mean the space gate had a 'real' edge as well? Aaron remembered reading about Atomic blades somewhere. Blades having the edge of one atom thick. In theory, that would be the sharpest blade. The problem with that blade was that it would be too brittle. It would break off with the slightest force even before cutting anything. That was on earth though. Here that problem could be solved. He had magic here.

Aaron felt good about the theory. Now once again problem was implementing it. He tried shrinking the edge of a piece of metal. He imagined it to be incredibly thin. The edge was sharp, but it wasnt what Aaron expected it to be.

He thought about the whole thing for a lot of days. He tried experimenting with different materials. Some materials took a edge better than others. But he was still far away from his mark.

"You shouldnt push yourself too hard. Sometimes you need relax a little too. You train in the morning and rest of the day you spend it doing god knows what. Sometimes you need some inspiration to succeed."

Aaron reluctantly agreed with his father. He found some time off and tried not to think about his work.

He decided to read a book. He had a few remaining. He couldnt finish the books because of the whole bandit fiasco.

The book he picked up was about a wind mage. It told about his life and how he was turned a gust of wind to a wind blade.

Wind blade!! Aaron finally had the inspiration he needed. As he ran out of the house to test his theory. He saw Mike.

"Thank you Father! You were right. Relaxation and inspiration are the keys!! Mike was happy seeing Aaron like that. His son had a gloomy shadow over him ever since he came back. He was finding it difficult to cope up with the current sutuation he was in.

Now, the mages here knew the air was made up of particles. But Aaron probably knew more. He knew, Air was made up of different gases. Gases were elements made of loosely packed atoms. He already how to control a little air by compressing the space and using it as shield.

Thats what the space mages of this world could do. But Aaron was different. He had a lot more theoritical knowledge in this aspect.

He picked up a piece of metal he tried to give an edge. Now he imagined a infinitely fine edge of compressed air attached to the blade. He willed it. He knew he was right on theory. He put that conviction into his will as well. He coulnt see any difference. But he knew he had an invisible edge on the blade. Now was the time to test it. He found a wooden stick. The piece of metal cut the wooden stick cleanly. He next picked up a piece copper. He could cut through the metal if he applied enough force. That filled his heart with delight.

Next he picked up a piece of Iron. He was able to cut it to some degree, but then the metal stuck. His edge was dulled. He wasnt discouraged though. He once again imagined and repeated the process. He was able to cut through the iron but needed considerable force. He knew he had his first success. The edge wasnt thin enough and it got dulled easily. But those things could be worked upon. He felt satisfied though. He had finally done it. He had created a spell which suited him. Suited his swordsmanship. He had created a spell on his own. He didnt knew if the wind blade or the other spells were equally sharp or not. But he knew his spell was top notch in terms of sharpness it could reach.

What could possibly rival a true atomic blade in sharpness?

Nothing.
