24 Chapter 24

Aaron had that cube which Marcus had given him. It grew larger by a few times and suddenly it shrinked past its original size by a few times. It wasnt that Aaron was practicing magic, it was more of unconscious habit of his. Its already been almost 3 years since he had joined the inistitute. He was proficient enough in basic space magic spells. He already had the access to advance section of the library. Even the librarian was shocked at how soon Aaron was able to get access. He didnt believe the authorization letter and directly confirmed it with Marcus.

Right now Aaron was looking at the mathematical solution to spatial transfer. For that first he had the imagine the whole world in a three dimension axis. He needed the coordinates between the two points from his point of reference. Then he had to try and create a gate between point A and point B. If there was an error between the points or any calculations, he might end up somewhere else. It might be in mid air or deep inside earth. Each would lead to certain death. Marcus had asked him to master the science and maths behind the whole technique before he was even allowed to consider trying it.

Although he had a higher degree in applied mathematics, he never imagined maths could be used in such a way. He even learner new theories which had practical uses for mage. This world seemed to be backward in terms of science, but the science and maths were tailor made for mages. It was to say the mages only focused on what they needed and researched those areas only, it wasnt because they lacked skill.

During these years Aaron also had the idea to build a piece of technology from earth. But he had no clue on how to proceed on that. He had used so many different machines and gadgets in his life. But he only used them. He had no clue how they worked or how to make them. And even if he did how was he going to get the materials? He decided to leave all that for the future.

Coming to hand he had almost finished reading up on what Marcus had asked him to read. Tomorrow he was going to ask Marcus to teach him the spell.

"What, you finished learning what I asked you to? That was supposed to keep you busy for another year or so. Even at your pace. You know Harry, your senior? He still hasn't reached the stage you have even though he quite a bright child with good chances to be a good mage. He would be shocked and dissapointed if he hears this. "

Aaron couldnt tell that most of what was asked of him to study, he already knew. He just needed to learn the way to apply it. It wasnt difficult for him at all.

"Anyways I told you I would teach you spatial transmission and I would. But I would ask you not to try and do it on yourself or any other human being unless I allow you to. I would need that as an oath. "

"I wont. I swear." People in this world took oaths very seriously. If they were to swear by something, it meant they would live by it.

"Good. Now, focus. You see this apple? "

He saw Marcus holding a red apple. He wondered where does marcus gets these things from. Apples, worms in vials.

"Now, our task is to move this apple from one point to another. When I say throw, throw this apple at the space veil which will appear in front of you. "

Aaron could see Marcus concentrate. This was the first time he saw marcus concentrate for a spell.

After a few seconds a spatial tear, pitch black in colour like the one he saw at the spatial gate before appeared in front of Aaron. It was much smaller in size. Just a bit larger than a fist.

"Throw"

Aaron threw the apple at the tear. It entered the veil, disappeared and appeared a couple of metres away in the same instant. It still had the same speed it entered the tear with. The whole act happened in a smooth contonous way. It was just like the middle few metres from entry and exit point didnt exist.

Although Aaron had seen a spatial gate before. He even traveleled through it. But seeing it happen from the third person view was totally different. He knew the science behind it now, but it still amazed him.

"I had heard you once used a space gate. What are the things you see differently here apart from the size?"

"That was a fixed gate for one. Second I could only see the tear on only the entry side. Not the exit side. Do we have to face the tear from the front to see it? We cant see it from behind it?"

"I will talk about fixed gate later. And the reason you could see only one gate was because I made the second gate as exit only. Exit only tears are invisible to the eye. Why exit only? To save magical power. "

"Now, let us see you try it."

Aaron did all the calculations required on a piece of paper. He didnt want any errors. Also presently mental calculations would take him more time. He chose the entry and exit gates one meter apart. He imagined opening a channel between the two points. One second passed after another.

Nothing happened.

"Okay, you can stop now. You will gain a headache this way. Do you think spatial transmission is so easy? Some space mages dont accomplish that even after they finish studying at the academy. You need to keep on practicing it. You need stronger will. "

"Now, look at this again."

Marcus concentrate again and once again he could see a familiar tear. This time he had passed a long stick to Aaron.

Aaron put one end of the stick in the tear while he firmly held the other. He could see the end he put in come out a few metres away. When he pulled back, the stick was completely fine.

Then Marcus asked him to bring the stick towards the tear from the side, not front of it. He slowly did as asked. When the stick touched the edge, it split into two. He had one part in his hand and the other part was lying down. It was a perfectly clean cut. The cut portion almost seemed polished. He was surprised to see all of it. He looked towards Marcus.

"Yes, the outward edge of a spatial tear is the sharp. Sharp to a degree it could cut anything. So when you try to open a spatial gate. Be careful. And dont try open a gate larger than your fist. "

Aaron walked out of Marcus's room with a determination to succeed.
