23 Chapter 23

As Aaron kept working on his telekinesis spell, Marcus made sure to increase the difficulty. He made him move objects around when it was afloat. Six months passed by quickly as Aaron practiced gis magic. He still kept reading but found more time to work on his magic now. He had a good foundation of magical studies now. Along with his already above par knowledge of science and mathematics he could be considered to be in a good place. He could already move objects after concentrating on it for a while. He was getting better at it everyday.

"Aaron. You have already attained decent enough accomplishment in displacement. Its time we start with something new. There are two main brances for space mages. Space manipulations and spatial movement. I will teach you the basics for both. You have to choose your own speciality in whatever you are more comfortable with.

The maths which you have studied so far would come into use now. You haven't come to me with any doubts so I hope you havent slacked off on it. "

" Now we will start with spatial manipulation. "

"Do you find this room a little different?"

"Yes, the very first time I came here I found it larger than it was supposed to be. "

Marcus smiled at that.

"Yes, its an advantage a space mage has. They give small stuffy rooms otherwise. Anyways, what I mean this room is a perfect example of what a space mage can do and what they are paid to do. Now what I want to ask is, since I can make it larger, can I make it smaller as well? And is this permanent?"

"If it can be made larger, it can be made smaller as well. It cant be permanent because it would need constant magical power. Unless we find a power source, it cant be permanent."

"Very good analysis. You have indeed woked upon your magical theory. But the effect on this room is long term unless I will it so. You must have seen a magestone. Thats what makes it possible. I will tell you about that later. Now lets start."

Marcus taught him about how to manipulate space to make it seem larger or smaller. It turned out it required mathematical equations and calculations to figure out how much space could be expanded or compressed. Finally the maths he had learned was put into actual use. He never thought he would actually use maths in real life. Although it wasnt too advanced, but it was used.

"Alright, we are done for the day. I want you to ask something. Have you noticed that whatever you study, it has become easier to understand? And you retain most of what you read?"

Aaron never noticed it. He always thought it was easier for him since he was already familiar with science and maths. But the other books which he read they were easy to understand as well. And he could indeed recall most of whatever he had read.

He slowly nodded his head.

"Its nothing unsual. This is something common for mages. You could say its one of the side effects of being a mage. Your mind is far more advanced than a common person and it will continue to grow till you hit the peak of your magic power. What I want you to do is practice mental mathematics. You need to do your calculations and equations and whatever you do mentally. It will be difficult at first. But unless you are capable to do those calculations in your head and do them fast, it will reduce your capability as a space mage. Space mages need a lot of mathematical calculations for their spells. If you have to pull out pen and paper for each spell you can see how difficult it will be. What if you are stuck in a space with no pen or paper? It would be silly for a space mage to be stuck in a space."

"Get it? Space?"

"No sense of humour. Go do whatever that is you do. Young ones these days. So serious all the time."

Aaron could hear him mumble to himself. He didnt put it in mind. He was used to it by now.

But he did think about what Marcus said. Mental calculations were going to be difficult.

"System start"

"AI chip start"

He tried some commands. None worked. He hoped that he had an AI chip or a system like he had read in some books back on earth. It would make calculations much easier. He didnt have any such luck. It wasnt a good idea to trust those books anyways.

Ohwell, off to the library again. It had become like a second home to Aaron.

Even the librarian had chided him many times because he spent so much time there.

"You should spend some time with other students too. Studying is important, but burying your face in books all day long isnt good for you. "

He always said he would. But he never did.

He was kind of stuck with the mentality of 22 year old person. He found it hard to connect with other students. No matter how intelligent people said mages were, he saw them as 9-10 year old kids. He found nothing in common to talk to them for longer period of times. The older students would see him as a kid and keep their talks to a minimum. Even Harry kept a distance from him. He wasnt rude or anything. He just thought him to be younger than himself and spent mkre time with his own peers.

Aaron did get his share of physical activities done. His morning training was still a routine. So he was in good shape physically. He wasnt worried about his health and didnt mind reading the books. He found that he had a hunger for knowledge. Now, he had one more thing to add to it. Mental mathematics.
