20 Chapter 20

"If you are going to say a space mage is someone who does space magic, then please dont. I already had Harry say that to me. "

"Space mages are someone who can manipulate any given space. Thats all a space mage can do. What you can achieve with those manipulations will be depend upon you. At the mage institute, we try to teach the basic applications of an element. Rest is up to you to discover what you can do. "

"Now your schedule. I will instruct you for 2 hours 6 days a week. You will have a day off each week. Lessons will be done morning after breakfast. Dont be late. Also, now you are allowed to go to the library. I want you to read. Read as much as you can. Read whatever you can. About magic, its application, space magic, science, about mages of past, evolution of magic. Even fairytales or what not. Read. "

"A mage's true weapon isnt magic, its knowledge. Whoever knows and understands more will be the better mage."

Aaron could feel the passion Marcus had. He truly wanted him to read and gather knowledge.

"Ofcourse you cant start with higher tier books. You need to start with the basic books. The library is arranged in that way. Also I would point you some books which you need to read as part of your space mage studies. So you dont need to worry about that. Now, are you ready for your first lesson?"

"Yes, Mr. Anderson."

"Wonderful. Come join me over there by the side. Here is too cluttered with my work."

'Work' as he saw were sheets with a lot of equations written. Lot of geometrical figures and axises drawn. It looked a lot like the maths he had studied in his past life. He was intrigued by it. But he decided not to hurry things. One step at a time.

The side Marcus brought Aaron over to had a table with a couple of books placed on it and a chair on either side. Marcus sat down on one and asked Aaron to sit on the other. He pulled out a tiny wooden looking cube from a drawer. It was harldly 1cm3 in size.

"I had to search for this one. It was thrown away somewhere after Harry was done with it. Now observe."

He had the cube lying on his palm. It gently lifted up by itself. It was a few centimeters above Marcus's palm and levitated there.

Aaron was once again amazed. Real magic had that effect on him. Although he was in a academy, he hadnt seen a lot of magic so far.

Once stared enough, Marcus grabbed the cube and passed it to Aaron.

"This is going to be your most important possession for the next part of your life. You have to keep it with you all the time. When you sleep, when you read, whenever you can. I want you to remember it perfectly. Every nook and cranny. Its texture, size, weight, colour everything. I want you to be familiar with it like you havent been with anything else."

"Now tell me what happened?"

"You somehow made the cube levitate."

"You see, that's the difference between a layman and a space mage. People will say the cube was flying. Or we make things lighter. Agree?"

Aaron nodded.

"But they are wrong. Its the most basic spell for a space mage. We dont make it fly. We can't actually. But what we can do is displace it. Thats the power of space. I just changed its position with respect to my hand. Understand?"

Aaron nodded again.

"I don't know how much of it you did. You still need to learn a lot of basic science. And mathematics. Its better if you start early. You will need a lot of it. "

"Do you want to try?"

"Yes " Said Aaron.

"He speaks. Wonderful. Try and speak more. Whats all that nodding. Mages need to be confident."

" Now focus on the cube. Visualize it in your mind."

Aaron did as he was told.

"Now imagine it taking the space just slightly above your hand instead of it sitting on your palm. Impose your will on it. Command it with whole of your mind and heart. There is no place for it on your hand. Its place is the space above it. "

Aaron was trying as hard as he could. He focussed on the cube. Did as he was told. But the only shaking on the cube was because of his palm shaking a bit because of the whole intensity. He already had traces of an headache.

"Alright. That's enough. You must have a bad headache by now. Thats the sign of over usage of magic power."

He felt he might have a headache if he continued. But he didn't really had a headache. But he didn't say it.

"What went wrong?"

"I didn't have enough magic power."

"Although you at your age dont have a lot of magic power, you still have more than enough to levitate this cube. What went wrong was the visualization step and the lack of will."

" Do you think its so easy to visualize things so easily. You need to get each detail. It has to be accurate enough to resemble this cube in the real world. Impose that visualized image on this cube and will it move. The will needs to be strong. You are changing the position of the cube. That change requires energy. The energy is provided by your magical power. "

"I want you think on what I said. Go have a rest now. You cant do anything with that headache. Take this list and go the library when you feel better and read. Be here tomorrow morning. You can leave now."

"And remember, the day when you move that cube will be the day you become a mage. "
