19 Chapter 19

Four months passed by real fast. Aaron learned a lot about basic of magic and its history. No one knew who the first mage was or how they came to be. They were always around as far as people could remember. Maybe it was the result of natural evolution. Also mages didn't have any special organs of the sort. They were same as any other human. It was a pure mental effort. Usage of magic lead to fatigue and over using could make people faint or even kill in extreme cases.

Usage of magic required understanding of the world around you. How good you can be totally depended on how much you could knew. And the last part was imagination. Once you knew what you wanted to do, you had to imagine it happening. Thats how magic was applied to things.

Also there was no magic in the air which you could breathe in to restore magic or stuff like that. It was all internal. It could only be restored with resting. It was a bit quicker for some then others. The ones with firmer will found it easier to recover.

Elena once showed a small black crystal like stone to the class. It was the same as the material the spatial gate was made of. She explained it was called magestone. It was a very valuable stone for all mages. Its main use was that a performed magic or a so called spell could be attached to it. It also had the property to stabilize a spell. It was rare and very expensive.

Aaron hadnt learnt any spell so far. Elena didnt teach any spells to anyone. As she said before, she only taught them theory. She would allocate the students she thought were fit to learn to teachers who specialized in the elements of the students.

Today was day Elena was supposed to announce the first batch of students she deemed fit for progress.

The students were filled with excitement and nervousness. Aaron knew he put up a decent enough performance to be selected. Not the absolute best in the class, but good enough.

"Okay. Today I am going to announce the names of the students who would be allocated to your elemental teachers. The students who arent selected dont need to be dissapointed. It just proves you were lacking only a bit and you could succeed in the next batch. And the students who got selected dont need to be too happy. This is but baby steps. You have a long road further. "

"I want everyone to pay attention. The names are Peter Adam, Crystal Safe, Rachel Strong...." Elena listed out 9 names. It wasnt a wonder the teacher's pet was the first name. He was hardworking and had decent enough results.

"Last one on the list is Aaron Rosil. I would like to congratulate you all. I would also now announce the teachers you are allocated to. You need to report after I am done with announcing. They will be incharge of you for the next 7 years. So keep in mind to have a good relation with them."

Elena Announced all the names. Aaron was allocated to someone named Mr. Marcus Hawkins.

The students were also told where to find their teachers as well. Once Elena was done with everything. The 10 kids moved out of the class.

Mr. Hawkins' chamber was located in a corridor which had a series of doors. He knocked on the door with Mr. Hawkins name written on it. Once he enetered the room, the first thing he noticed was the size. There was no way this room could be so big. It was like a big hall. If he considered each door he passed to have even a small room attached to it, there was no way that this room could be so big. Either the whole corridor had fake doors or this was magic. He assumed the second, no one would play a false door joke on this level with him. Plus it was a magic institute to begin with.

He saw a neatly dressed man, probably in his 30's absorbed in doing some calculations. The person who ushered him in was a boy, a bit older than himself. Perhaps around 12-13 years old. He motioned him to be silent. After that he went to one side and picked a book and began reading it.

After few minutes, the man finished up. He took a deep breath and raised his head to look towards Aaron. Aaron took his cue and said "Hello Mr. Hawkins. I am Aaron Rosil. I was asked to report to you."

"Yes. I was told I was going to get a new student. I was also informed that you are a scholarship student. I know the scholarship students have to stay in a room with a roommate. If you find your room mate disturbing, you could stay here. As you can see we have a lot of space. 'Space' get it?" he made a small laugh after saying it. Aaron couldnt believe it. He had a teacher who cracked lame jokes? What about the mages he had seen so far who were pretty serious. He didn't want it to happen. Not a poor joke teacher. It was the worst. If you didnt laugh at those jokes, the other might even get offended.

Seeing Aaron not making any responses.

"Another one of those serious ones. No sense of humour at all. Anyways, as I was saying, you could lodge here if you want. Its not the best, but its quiet. "

"My room mate never showed up"Aaron replied.

"Good for you. But the offer still stands in case you need it. "

"You already know my name. The other student here is Harry Taylor. He is two years your senior. We three make up the space magic department of our college. "

Looks like Marcus didnt mind about the 'joke'. Seems like he was used to it. He sounded honest about the offer for Aaron to move here. But he didnt want to move for now. He liked his own private room.

"We three only?"

"Yes, you have learned that a mage is inclined towards one element. The word element is used in a very general sense.

Fire, water, wind , earth and their derivatives are called elementals mages. The others such as space, time, life, probablity or various other kinds are called true mages. Its because elements exists in nature, they are tangible. You could see fire burning. You coulf feel wind. You get wet with water. But can you feel time. Can you see space? So we are called true mages. Now true doesnt mean we are the true mages and the elementalists arent. Its just a word used to differentiate the category of mages. "

"True mages are rarer then the elementalists. Its also more difficult for true mages to start learning or master a spell. Its easier to understand things you can see. When you only have theoritical proof, its difficult to trust and believe on it initially. So, I would advice you to have an open mind. Because true mages also have much wider variety of spells and are much sought after since they are so rare. In my 15 years as a teacher, I have had only 4 students including you. You can see how rare are space mages. "

He let Aaron sink in whatever he said. He saw Aaron was listening to him attentively. Usually the younger kids had shorter attention span. But he liked the attentiveness. It made a teacher eager to teach.

After few seconds when he thought Aaron had processed what he had said so far he asked "So, Aaron Rosil, tell me, what do you think a space mage is?"
