15 Chapter 15

People could thank Aaron's upbringing that he wasn't swearing at the moment.

But what was in front of him, could make most people from earth swear in utter awe of what they were seeing.

It would have been a funny sight seeing a 8 year old kid swear with no holds barred.

But what lay in front of him was a gate. A true spatial gate.

Maybe sci fiction or the fantasy books have desensitized humans a little against things like space gates, but reading about it and seeing it in front of your eyes are two different things altogether.

Aaron wasn't impressed when he first saw Rivertown. Neither was when he reached Rensworth. Modena city for all it's worth failed as well.

The grand mage association branch, the biggest building Aaron had seen in his life paled in comparison to the modern marvels.

But when they reached a inconspicuous looking room, Aaron got the shock of his lifetime.

A spatial gate. That would impress anyone from earth or anyone really who was unknown to intricacies of magic really.

He could see Ryan smirking besides him while he stood with his mouth open. He wasnt alone in this regard. One of the other two candidates, a girl had similar expression. While the other boy had better control over his expressions.

He was informed the boy was from a royal family. So maybe he was exposed to mages before or atleast knew more about them than Aaron.

He also noticed the boy had dark skin while the girl had white. With his wheatish complexion, they were quite a racially mixed trio. But as he has learned from the books he read, this world didnt have racial discrimination, even when it would be considered a backward world by human standards of earth. He sometimes thought, which place should really be considered as backwards?

Coming back to the gate, when Ryan said that he had arrangements, he never expected it to be a spatial gate. At most he thought it would be a different mode of transportation.

"The mage association have placed spatial gates connecting different parts of the world. The gate at Modena is for the four south eastern provinces. More important provinces even have more than one gate."

"Ofcourse the so called importance is from the mages point of view. The stones used to stabilize this gate is worth a kingdom."

"You have the space attributes as well. Maybe you can make such gates as well in the future. Spatial gates are considered to be very advanced form of space magic. You would need to work really hard for it."

Aaron could just nod. He couldnt make himself speak. He was still admiring the gate in front of him.

Aaron noticed the so called 'gate' was actually two pillars. The pillars were made of a black Crystal like rock. It was smooth to look at but you could see the whole pillars made up from a lot of smaller pieces, joined by some kind of technique. Between the pillars stretched a pitch black veil. This veil was the blackest black Aaron had ever seen. Ryan said it was a spatial tear. But this pitch black veil, it sent a shiver down his spine. It was said, humans have a fear of the dark and unknown. This kind of darkness broughtout that fear.

"Alright, since all of us are here. We should leave. Ryan are you ready?"

This was another young man who was accompanying the other two kids. He was almost a head taller than Ryan, but he was thin as a stick.

"Sure. Would you like to go first Anthony?" said Ryan.

"Why not?" Saying that Anthony asked the two kids to follow him. Anthony stepped first. The two kids hesitated and didnt follow immidiately. After few seconds passed by and the kids hadntade any movement. Anthony came back out from the black veil.

"See, its absolutely safe. You dont have to worry. Follow me for sure this time around." Saying that Anthony stepped back into the veil.

The kids were nervous, but after a few seconds they held hands, perhaps that gave them the courage and they stepped into the veil together.

"Alright Aaron follow me. Dont linger too long after. It's absolutely safe. " Ryan too stepped into the gate after saying that.

Finally it was his turn. As he walked towards the gate he couldnt help but ponder. It had been a journey of two months. He was already furthest away from his new home he had ever been. But this small step would take him further away than those two months could. He was about to reach the insistute. The dream of being a mage was that much closer now. He hesitated for a moment as he reached the gates, but he gathered his confidence and stepped through.

It was absolute darkness a moment later.
