122 Chapter 122

As Devito sat on the ground near the entrance of the mage association, he felt nothing but like a beggar asking for alms.

Looking at how things were turning out, it might become true in the near future.

His heart was full of hatred and dissatisfaction. How come a man his age fell for such a petty trick. But could he blame himself? He had blindly followed his ambition. There is always a risk associated with that. If you make it through, you come out successful, else you end up loosing everything you had.

" Hey you. Yes yes you. I am talking to you. Look up here. "

The man calling him repeatedly broke Devito out of his reviere. His head still wasn't clear enough to make out what was going on.

He looked up and saw a middle aged man wearing a brown robe looking at him.

Not man. Mage. He was sure mages weren't people.

He guessed the mage was calling him for something.

Looks like someone else wanted to step over him now. It was their city after all. It wasn't like he could do something about it. Maybe he would go away if he stayed quiet. No one liked a one sided conversation, did they?

" Hey you. Just listen and don't sit like an idiot. I know you can talk. I saw you inside arguing. "

The mage refused to go away. Looks like he was fond of those one sided conversations.

He refused to go away. He took a careful look at the mage. He went beyond the clothes and saw that unlike most mages, he looked a little unkept. A little bit of salt and pepper beard on his face. Uncombed hair just screamed that this was someone who didn't particularly paid importance on what he looked like.

And his hands. Those were most unsual. He could see they didnt look soft at all. It looked all calloused. Like someone who didn't mind getting their hands dirty. Literally.

As the mage kept on trying to seek his attention. He couldnt but get annoyed.

" What is it? Wouldn't you guys even let me sit in peace? Hasn't ruining me satisfied your lot that you have come to even now?" his frustration showed. Yes, the person speaking to him was a mage.

So, what? What else could they do to him.

Kill him? It couldn't be much worse than his current predicament.

He didn't have anything to loose and berating the mage had actually felt good.

Rogan was shocked at the venom in the man's voice. He got the feeling the man had went through a lot. So let the comment slide.

" I guess you have been through a lot. But I want to ask you something. I heard you mention the name of mage Aaron inside. I couldn't catch all of it and only heard the last part. Could you tell me what it was about?"

He had indeed only heard the man mentioning Aaron's name. He enquired the mage he was talking to and came to know that he was looking for the whereabout of Aaron. That's what got Rogan interested in the potbellied balding man.

He had come out looking to talk to man as to why he was looking for Aaron. Was he pawn being used by someone? Or did he have an ulterior motive by himself. He needed to make sure and nip the trouble in the bud if necessary.

Devito was incensed hearing Aaron's name. Yes, that little boy had been responsible for everything miserable in his life. He was having a good life until he came along.

" What of it if I was looking for him? What has it got to do with you? I will tell you this, if I find that little brat, I am going to break his neck. You could kill me after but I will have my revenge. "

Rogan felt the man was consumed with fury. And hearing him, it didn't feel like he was fabricating it. He held true resentment against Aaron. What had the boy done to cause such anger.

Did he do something to the man's daughter? No, Aaron was much more responsible than that. He was sure he wasn't that bad a judge of character.

Then what had caused the man to speak in the way he was.

And whatever it was, Rogan wasn't one to stand and listen the man accusing Aaron and the mages in the way he was.

" I would be careful if I were you. I may be patient, but do not think for a second that you could get away with that tone and those words. May be you were wronged, maybe not. But if you continue in the way you are going, death would be the least of your worries. " He said in a cold voice.

That had more or less took the wind out of Devito. Even he was surprised at how he had reacted. It wasn't in his nature to do so.

Perhaps the betrayal had more of an effect on him than he anticipated. Yes, berating the mage had felt good, but he wasn't that kind of a person who would lay other's fault on his feet.

" I am sorry. It's just that I am going though a lot. None of the mages inside have been helpful. All of it had put me on an edge. " He apologized for his sudden outburst.

" That is much better. Now, you may explain what it is that you want with Mage Aaron. " Rogan continued to use a stern voice, albeit not as cold as his last statement.

That name caused a spike of temper in Devito. But he had it under much better control this time.

He slowly but surely narrated the whole incident to Rogan.

" I see. I also understand the cause of your anger. And I could say that to a fair extent, it was justified. "

Devito was happy the mage agreed with him. He was about to comment when a raised hand stopped him.

" But just because you have a cause, it doesn't allow you to rant in the middle of the city. There are proper channels to Lodge complaints even if the perpetrator is a mage. That much is general knowledge amongst the educated, which as per your statement you are. "

" But, considering what you have been through, I will not bother with all that. "

" If you want to get all this sorted, follow me. "
