16 Sprouting Nonsense

As Gu Xin Ye was still wondering if the man had probably guessed at her identity, Li Jun Xuan asked her a shocking question.

"Miss Gu, why are you interested in Qin Zhan?"

Gu Xin Ye stared back at the man with a blank expression. Although she did not know how she should answer his question, Gu Xin Ye knew that this was not the time for her to expose herself. Fortunately, she was well trained enough not to reveal her feeling on her expression.

Right now, her future depended on keeping her secret.

It was true that she was interested in Qin Zhan, but not for the same reason that Li Jun Xuan might think. At this time, she wanted nothing more than to lure Qin Zhan to come and work for GDB Group.

What she was looking forward to was to win Qin Zhan as well as the directors' and shareholders' approval.

"Why do you ask me this?" Gu Xin Ye asked as soon as she calmed down. She crossed her arms on her chest and stared back at Li Jun Xuan with the same curiosity. Although her heart shook at hearing his question, Gu Xin Ye could not let this man knew of her thoughts.

"You have been asking about Qin Zhan through my mother a lot," Li Jun Xuan pointed out.

He had heard her conversation with his mother. Though his mother might not see through her intention, as a police officer, how could Li Jun Xuan not notice anything?

Gu Xin Ye had come to the city for a few days. She had claimed that she was here for a vacation, but had decided to take a part-time job at Old Chen's noodle stall.

Li Jun Xuan thought that this situation was a little too strange. However, it seemed that not everyone had the same thought. His mother, for example, had thought that he has been working on cases too much that he had started to doubt everything around him.

Of course, Li Jun Xuan had thought that his mother was full of nonsense.

Why can't they see it was a bizarre situation for tourists to take a part-time job with a small salary while staying at a B&B? Li Jun Xuan knew that there was something wrong with Gu Xin Ye and he was determined to keep his guard up around her.

"So what if I am interested in him, and what if I don't?"

"Miss Gu, I don't know what was your intention when you come to Z Town, but I will have to remind you that if you had a bad idea about Qin Zhan, the others will not stand still."

Gu Xin Ye was suddenly reminded of how those grandpas had helped Qin Zhan to drive away that HR Manager who came to find him.

She could see that the people in this town had a very good relationship with each other. However, Qin Zhan should be a stranger to the people in town. So, why does it feel as if the people in this town were protective of him?

Just… who was Qin Zhan to these people?

"Or is it possible for Miss Gu to know Qin Zhan before you decided to come to this town?" Li Jun Xuan continued to probe.

Gu Xin Ye tensed. Then, she forced a smile. "That's interesting." A chuckle escaped her. "But Mister, I think you have been following too much conspiracy theory. I come over to this town after hearing about its beautiful beach. Then, I accidentally stumbled into a handsome man. Why can't I be interested in that man? Tell me, was it wrong if I wanted to do whatever I can to pursue him? Working in that noodle stall will let me get close to him"

"You expect me to believe that? Li Jun Xuan frowned.

"You don't understand a maiden's heart. People like us are willing to do anything to pursue love."

She was fully aware that she was spouting nonsense, but once the thought came to her mind, Gu Xin Ye could not stop herself from speaking. Anyway, this explanation would sound believable if she wanted to protect herself.

At least, Li Jun Xuan would stop doubting her intention of getting closer to Qin Zhan.

Gu Xin Ye simply did not want Qin Zhan to chase her out of this town with a cleaver.

It seemed that these excuses were working as Li Jun Xuan had no longer asked her questions. Glancing at the man one more time, Gu Xin Ye then decided to head over to her room for a video conference.

After setting up her laptop in the room, Gu Xin Ye pulled her hair into a ponytail, put on her gold rim spectacle, and instructed Lin Qiao to commence the meeting.

Lin Qiao watched her friend wore the spectacle and sighed helplessly. With her spectacle on, Gu Xin Ye's personality changed and she was no longer her approachable friend. Everyone who sat in front of the camera subconsciously straightened up their back as they saw their boss's cold look on the large screen.

Even though Gu Xin Ye was not physically present, the aura she gave was as scary as if she was right in front of them. The managers did not dare to speak nonsense and were diligent in answering their boss's questions.

The meeting lasted for two hours and ended just before the lunch hour.

Gu Xin Ye watched as the managers left the meeting room with cold eyes. As soon as the last person had left and shut the door, Gu Xin Ye took out her spectacle and rubbed at the space between her brow.

"Xin Ye, are you alright?" Lin Qiao asked.

"I'm fine," Gu Xin Ye waved her hand. She looked up again and her gazes were no longer as distant. "I didn't think that talking to a bunch of elderly men would be as exhausting as washing a large, heavy stockpot."

Lin Qiao laughed at her words. "Are you alright?"

Gu Xin Ye chuckled. "I'll be alright. I heard that there were a few luxury resorts around the west side of this town. I'm planning to head over after lunch and perhaps find a spa or something. I really need a massage. My shoulders are killing me." She looked up again and asked, "Lin Qiao, have you investigated what I asked?"

Lin Qiao lowered her gaze. "I couldn't find anything. Whoever is disclosing your movement to Wang Zhi Wei, that person is extremely careful." She took a deep breath and looked at Gu Xin Ye with an unwavering gaze. "Give me time."
