8 Shinny Things are a trap

Their eye contact only lasted a second but in that second before she quickly looked back at her book. I realized that I had stopped moving, stop breathing even. Unfortunately so had everyone else around me.

Mom:" Honey do you see this it looks like our little prince has a crush," she said with a contemplative smile

Dad:" That's Miyazaki's little girl I think" "Nodoka that's her name"

Mom:" whys she here too I know we're going to a relatively safe area but I didn't think there'd be any children other than Kora ?"

Dad:" I told a few of the guys that we were bringing him they decided to bring their kids too since they're all around the same age "

Kora missed this part of the conversation due to his reading a new mission.

Before he could ask Navi about this his dad starts pushing his back to make him walk

"Woooah"

Dad:" come on kidlets go make you some friends " with a big smile

"Wait for dad NO!" he yells "I can walk on my own "

They arrived in front of the group and his dad starts introducing him to his team

Dad:" Everyone this is Kora he's a little shy" then he pushes me towards the boxes where Nodoka was sitting " go say hello while the adults talk "

I then stumble over barley regaining my balance directly in front of her.

She lowers the book down slightly from her face and I can see her peeking at me over the top

"High there I'm Kora nice to meet you "

Nodoka:" ...(whispers).. hi..." and then raises her book back

???:" Is that little Bookworm-chan talking to a boy" followed by a creepy laugh

I turn to see a bespectacled young woman wearing a light peach dress that closely resembles a cheongsam.

Nodoka:" MAAATSSUUU!!" she then throws her book showing a mostly covered but obvious red face little girl was a khaki explorers outfit. She then proceeds to run off towards the adults

Matsu:" I was only joking around and she already ran away " she then turns to look towards Kora and smiles

Matsu:" So you're the new kid" giving kora a glance over while looking very contemplative

I hear her mumble to herself "he looks like he'd be perfect for a little 'experiment'" and she starts to smile at him suddenly

Mom:" KOORA time to leave !!"

he turns to see the equipment being loaded onto a wagons

"Nice to meet you but I gotta go" and then he runs back to his mom who just smiles at him knowingly a smile he chooses to ignore.

They set out much to his happiness he ends up riding in the wagon with Nodoka so he decides to try and start up a conversation with her but keeping it easy ( if I remember correctly her original character couldn't handle too much stimulation )

"So what you reading ?" he asks her

Nodoka:"...Adventures...Guide....to... Treasure...Hunting.. "she says quietly

In Altera there many different occupations but the most popular one was that of the Adventure those who explored the world fought monsters and so much more. But treasure hunting was one of the more rare jobs and much more dangerous.

" You wanna be a treasure hunter ?" he asked amazed

Nodoka:" En," she says nodding her head slightly

"That's so cool I wanna be a Battlemage and Explorer just like my parents " he looks at her with a smile happy that they had something in common

From then on they spent the trip going over her book and talking about there favorite stories and hero adventures

Six hours later they'd reach the ruins in the forest

*Kora I'm detecting a powerful artifact nearby*

"How far from me ?" he says in his thoughts

*it is within 100ft below the ruins *

(Great now I just have to find a way to sneak away look for a way down)

Nodoka notices his distraction but doesn't comment she just continues to look through her book

soon they climb out of the wagon and begin to look around.

It looked like a large monastery that had fallen apart to time and was reclaimed by the forest

(alright then) he thinks and starts to look around with Nodoka while the adults set up camp

???: "I want a perimeter set up asap " he hears the someone yell

he processed to go look for his parents noticing that Nodoka follows him

he finds the deeper in towards the campsite looking at the ruins

Dad: "it seems safe "

Mom:" I don't sense anything around here so we should be ok

they turn to see the to children walking towards them

"can I go explore a little by myself," he asks

Mom:" ..." she looks at her husband who nods " sure but doesn't go to far and don't touch anything especially if you don't know what it is "

"ok I won't I promise," he says happily then he turns to Nodoka

" We can hang out later I wanna go take a look around " and turns to walk away

he feels a tug on his shirt and looks back

Nodoka:" ..Treasure ....Hunter..." she says and looks down embarrassed

"Of course how about w ego together then," he says

she nods her head and he thinks he sees a hint of a smile on her face

"ok let go find us some treasure!! "

They travel around the ruins coming to a small isolated garden-like area towards the south of the camp

"wanna check it out?"

Nodoka:" En " she nods repeatedly

So in they walk looking at the wild overgrown garden

suddenly Nodoka stop walking and focused on the ground near them

at the roots of the tree before them, there was a glint of something shiny

Nodoka:" .....Treasure..." and she reached to pull what turns out to be a metal chain coming from seemingly under the tree.

As she pulls the chain there was a slight rumble in the ground under them that quickly subsided.

"That was scary," he says and as soon as he goes to step towards her to look closer at the chain the ground under them crumbled and they fell into the dark.
