Chapter 2 - An Old Friend Wants Me Dead

After using the bathroom at the nearby Tiger Park I sat down on the swing set to think about my first plan of action. I knew that over in Los Angeles there was the Notre Dame High School and across the street from the school was the church. So getting to the gateway wasn't a problem. The problem at hand was finding the new Triforce Bearer of Wisdom before Ganondorf's child does.

I also knew that by being the child of Link, the Hero of Time, I had inherited the Triforce of Courage. So of course I am a target for evil creatures. But that's not a big deal since Farore gave me a sword and shield. I had learned that by pressing the stopwatch button on my wristwatch it transforms into a Hylian Shield fit for a child. Now I had to learn how to properly activate my necklace.

As fate would have it such a time to learn was at hand when three Green Chu-Chus rose up from the ground. "Alright time for you to die!" The middle Green Chu-Chu told me. I couldn't help but laugh at them cause they had goofy smiles on their faces while threatening me. But I quickly realized that I shouldn't judge a book by its cover.

When they pounced on me I could feel my energy being drained. So I had sluggishly jumped back and took off my necklace. I thought perhaps an incantation was needed to activate my necklace. Focusing my mind everything went dark. I then went into a trance and said, "I call upon the spirits of the land. I hold the power in my hand. The sword to win this fight. With a most righteous light! Hyah!"

In a bright flash of golden light the Triforce of Courage insignia appeared on the back of my left hand. Then a golden aura engulfed the necklace in my left hand. It levitated in the air and extended into a four foot long sword. The handle was leather bound and a foot long. The blade was three feet long and forged from a most heavenly steel.

That's when I heard Farore's voice say to me in my mind, "Can you hear me Brandon Swift? It's me Farore." I nearly jumped out of my skin again when I heard her majestic voice. Taking a closer look at my sword I saw that it had a green aura emanating from it. I raised an eyebrow and asked, "Are you my sword now Farore?"

The aura shone brightly and the enemies wriggled away. Farore's voice replied, "It's the least I can do to watch out for you. I converted a portion of my spirit into your sword so I can join you on your journey." I smiled and said, "I don't know how I can ever repay you Farore. Now then it's Hero Time!"

I then chased down the Green Chu-Chus and slashed them. Since my sword was infused with Farore's spirit they instantly vaporized into clouds of darkness. As such I gave it the name Megami. (Yeah I know a little bit of Japanese and as such Megami roughly translates to goddess) Feeling bold I flourished Megami and said, "That was too easy! I want to take on something stronger!"

I heard a coy chuckle from behind me and a voice telling me, "Be careful what you wish for. You just might get it granted." Turning around I came face to face with Steven Cerebus, my childhood friend. He has shaggy black hair and emerald green eyes. He was dressed in the Rosedale Middle School uniform and oddly enough a sword necklace around his neck as well.

I gasped and asked, "Huh? What exactly do you mean Steven? Why do you have a sword necklace just like I do?" He chuckled and told me, "Oh no need to be worried my dear friend. I mean not until I do this!" He then removed the necklace from his neck and focused his mind. He became shrouded in darkness and I couldn't believe what happened next.

I could hear him say, "I call upon the flames of hell! My spirit is under your spell! I hold the power in my hand! To conquer this glorious land! Gyah!" When the darkness faded away Steven was clothed in a red cap, red tunic, white long sleeve shirt, white leggings and brown leather boots. In his right hand was a sword just mine but radiating with a red aura.

Again I could hear the voice of a goddess telling me, "My name is Din, the Goddess of Power. I serve my master Steven Cerebus as his Guardian Goddess. Just like how Farore serves you as your Guardian Goddess young one. I mean no harm to you but since Steven is my master I must do his bidding. Hopefully you won't have a grudge against me."

I sighed and told Din, "It's quite alright I will do anything to stop Steven. That includes freeing you from your enslavement Din." Steven scoffed at me and said, "Oh I don't think so! I will make damn sure you don't free my all powerful Guardian Goddess! Have a taste of my sword Hellhound!"

He then swiped my chest and blood splattered on the ground. I fell to my knees and groaned in pain. I looked up at him and shakily asked, "Why are doing this? Why are you attacking me Steven? Aren't you my friend?" He smirked and answered, "Oh believe you me we were. That's until I learned about my heritage."

I winced in pain after he kicked me to the ground. Gasping for air I blacked out after I heard Steven say, "The Triforce is as good as mine." Luckily for me Farore was watching over me since I had a dream about her. In the dream I saw her strumming a golden harp in a beautiful field of flowers.

"What happened to me? Am I actually alive or dead?" I asked her. She continued to play with her harp as she replied, "You're neither alive or dead. Your spirit is in limbo. On the edge of life and death." I sighed softly and asked, "If that's true then can I return to my body?"

As she played her majestic song Farore told me, "It all depends on the strength of your spirit. And trust me when I say you have a strong spirit Brandon Swift." I paused for a moment before asking, "How do you know my name? Did I even introduce myself to you?" Farore smiled and said, "I've known you since the day you were born. So of course I know your name Brandon."

My next question was important because I needed to know badly. So I asked her, "What exactly did Steven Cerberus mean when he mentioned his heritage?" Farore sighed softly in sadness and replied, "It's as I feared Brandon. Your former friend Steven is the son of Ganondorf. That means he now bears the Triforce of Power. Just like how you now bear the Triforce of Courage."

I folded my arms and thought about it. If Steven has the Triforce of Power and I have the Triforce of Courage then that makes us destined to an eternity of rivalry. That also meant that there was a prince or princess somewhere who now bears the Triforce of Wisdom. The question was how near or far away they were. Point is as the hero of this journey I needed to find them as soon as humanly possible.

Before I returned to my body I asked Farore, "Since Steven is the son of Ganondorf does that mean he aim to claim the almighty Triforce for himself? Or do you think he'll hand it over to his father?" Shaking her head Farore told me, "It matters not who gets it. Since Steven is the son of Ganondorf and Ganondorf is his father. Should either one get their hands on the Triforce they can have their deepest desires granted."

This angered me to the point that I pounded my fist in my hand. "Then you can bet I'll kick both their asses before they can obtain the Triforce! Well then if you'll excuse me I've got a body of mine to return to!" I said to her. With a sigh of relief and a smile I waved goodbye and said, "Alright see you back in the land of the living!" In a blinding flash of golden light I had disappeared from the astral plain.
