1 Understanding the system
Adam slept after a tiring day at school. When he woke up he found himself in a parallel world where everything looked the same as before his parents, his room, and his phone but this world had magic and monsters.
He was overwhelmed yet incredibly excited.
Adam whispered "Status". Then instantly a blue screen popped up in front of him. On there there were stats resembling a video game.

Adam was surprised. Hesitating he said "Hello, system" but there was no reply it seemed he had received a system that had no consciousness.
He hovered his hand over 'Quests' of the mystical transparent window. And he was taken to a new screen which only had one quest.
Main Quest: Get accepted into the Arcane Academy (incomplete)

Just then He reached the exam hall. There were lines in which people were getting their biometrics and mana signatures checked. This was a common occurrence in this world to prevent identity theft or fraud as illusion magic wasn't particularly difficult for most criminals.
When he had completed about half of the exam he heard a loud and familiar *DING* and a screen popped up in front of him you have gained 1 Intelligence point, After a second another screen popped up in front of him saying INT Milestone reached gained new skill: Memory Palace.
Adam navigated to his status and saw a new skill there Memory Palace. "host will obtain a memory palace which will give the host a pseudo eidetic memory".
He was quite annoyed he got this during the examination and not earlier. The written exam was worth 50 marks. another 50 were allocated to magic ability as it wasn't a theoretical subject practicals were necessary. The final 50 were allocated to combat ability which was an elective as not everyone was aiming for the combat courses.
When he submitted his paper to a machine in the corner of the room he received his performance instantly he obtained 42/50, which while wasn't horrible wasn't particularly amazing.
In magic there were many types of magic usage some used magic circles which were quite strong but took a while to form, another type was spell invocation which was just a chant to focus energy from your mana core to perform a spell. Mana cores were being tested in this test many people couldn't afford the methods to do spell invocations or magic circles as they were either passed down through families or were sold at exorbitant prices.
Mana cores could be trained and people learned the method for free when they attended school, Mana core training consists of running magic through your body and working it out as you would a muscle. Some established families have secret mana training methods which are significantly better. Mana cores while being trainable were also dependent on your talent as your growth rate depended on how well your core grew and the quality of mana in it.
Adam had above-average talent but nothing like a genius. So while waiting for his turn on the test he was practicing the mana training method when he heard *DING* you have gained 1 magic point.
He was very anxious about this exam as he didn't know how well he would perform. Luckily for him, he got a mana point of e- and a purity of 9% which while very low was quite good for a student. Which got him 39/50 on this exam. Now the one that would make or break his score was combat he had 81/150 he needed 34 marks in the combat course to get into Arcane Academy.
He was preparing for combat when his name was announced, He was paired with another candidate. Both he and his partner went down to the combat area where they would be judged on their performance, In this test they had to hunt monsters which were one of the weakest types but still very difficult to deal with which is why they were paired with another student.
He met Damien who was about 6' and had a bulky build. They both talked with each other about their strategy. They formulated a plan using each of their strengths with Adam's speed and dexterity and Damien's strength and power to complement each other.
When the test began, an orc/goblin fusion monster appeared in front of them it was massive almost 1.5x their height. The monster ran towards them while Adam used an invocation fireball which only gave the monster a burn and not any significant damage. The monster charged towards Adam as he dodged an attack from the monster Damien jumped on the orc from behind and bashed him on the ground at that moment Leonidas shot a fireball at its face which burned its eyes and his face started bleeding as Damien dealt the final blow. He saw a +10xp when the monster died.
The monster was surprisingly easy to kill as it was one of the weakest and had no intelligence and he was carried because of his teammate. He got a score of 38 while his teammate got a score of 44. He and Damien exchanged their IDs . And he left with a happy score of 119/150 completing his quest. He heard a *DING* Quest complete click to receive rewards he immediately clicked yes, He obtained a skill mana core training intermediate.

He went home and told his parents the news that he had gotten into the academy. He decided to test out the new mana core method he had obtained. He felt the immense difference between the methods his mana was growing with almost 50% more efficiency. Now all he had to do was wait for the Academy's invitation but he was certain he would be accepted.
