6 Ghoul Territory

District 1, also known as Chiyoda Ward, is a challenging place to live. It has earned the nickname "hell" due to its difficult conditions. The CCG (Commission of Counter Ghoul) has established its headquarters in this area to combat the ghouls that infest the district.

Despite the CCG's numerous attempts to eradicate the ghouls in Chiyoda Ward, they prove to be incredibly resilient. It feels like an endless battle, with the ghouls always returning after being defeated. The CCG's progress has been slow, and they have yet to make any significant breakthroughs.

Even during the daytime, residents of Chiyoda Ward remain cautious and prioritize their safety by avoiding unfamiliar individuals. Unfortunately, the mortality rate in this ward remains higher compared to the other 22 wards of Tokyo.

The ghouls in Chiyoda Ward are particularly dangerous, often attacking innocent civilians even within the confines of their homes. The thought of someone peacefully sleeping, only to be assaulted by ghouls breaking into their house, is horrifying.

As night falls...

"It's terrible weather. They said it would cool down, but it's still so hot," Lin Yi complained, shivering as a cold gust of wind blew.

Lin Yi couldn't stop thinking about his partner and boss, Kureo Mado, who had given him a peculiar task.

"Why would he want me to act as bait? I just started today and know nothing about ghouls. It's so dark here. Where am I supposed to go?" Lin Yi muttered to himself as he aimlessly walked down the street.

All the shops had closed a long time ago, and the street was eerily quiet. Despite his complaints, Lin Yi remained vigilant of his surroundings. Mado had assured him that he would guide him discreetly, but he was nowhere to be found.

Lin Yi had a nagging feeling that he was being set up.

"Thud~"

Suddenly, a dull sound echoed from a nearby alley. Lin Yi focused his gaze and saw a woman wearing a red dress collapsing to the ground, her long wavy hair scattered.

Lin Yi hurriedly approached, and from a distance, he could finally see the woman's face. She had light makeup, a straight nose, and rosy cheeks. Even though he could only see half of her face, he could tell she was beautiful.

The woman reeked of alcohol, indicating that she had been drinking heavily. The smell was overpowering.

"Hey, miss, it's not safe to be here at night. You should go home quickly," Lin Yi warned her.

But the woman appeared completely intoxicated. She whimpered twice and then turned over, lying down on the ground.

Her disheveled dress revealed a large area of fair skin. She had an attractive figure.

"Ma'am, it's really dangerous to stay here at night. Where do you live? Let me help you get back home." Lin Yi's sense of justice kicked in, and he quickly walked over.

Just as Lin Yi approached and was about to reach out to help her up, something unexpected happened. The woman, who seemed drunk, suddenly opened her eyes wide, revealing black and red irises. Her mouth, filled with saliva, prepared to bite Lin Yi's arm.

But before she could attack, there was a splatter and the sound of a blade piercing flesh.

Lin Yi's Quinque, "Jörmungandr," had impaled the woman's throat, pinning her to the ground.

The woman died instantly, with a look of confusion and disbelief frozen on her face.

"I'm not a child. How can there be a drunk beautiful girl in a place like this?" Lin Yi murmured, scanning the darkness around him.

"She died so easily. How could she control a ghoul territory... unless she had accomplices?"

Lin Yi seemed to be talking to himself and engaging in a conversation simultaneously.

As expected, movement stirred in the darkness. Pairs of red eyes flickered, gradually becoming visible in the once pitch-black alley.

"That woman made a mistake."

"Damn, you dare to intrude on your own? Today, we will tear you apart."

"Boss, I'll take his arm later."

...

The once-silent alley suddenly teemed with activity.

With a quick glance, Lin Yi counted at least a dozen ghouls, each possessing unique powers. Unknowingly, they had encircled him.

The leader was a young man with a mohawk haircut and distinctive piercings on his nose and ears. His right arm boasted a powerful Kagune, making him appear formidable.

"I knew I couldn't trust that old guy."

Lin Yi muttered, searching for his partner who had yet to make an appearance. It was evident that the other party intended to test his strength.

However...

As Lin Yi tightened his grip on his weapon, he could sense its anticipation from earlier.

In the next moment, the blade-like Kagune surged, and tendrils pierced into the corpse of the red-dressed ghoul, absorbing its blood like a straw.

The ghouls, ready to attack, were surprised and unsure of how to react.

"You want to eat me?"

The beautiful ghoul became a lifeless corpse in an instant. Lin Yi stood confidently with his sword, and his Quinque returned to its normal state, with faint glimmers on the blade.

"So, if my weapon devours you, I won't feel bad, right?"

"Don't... don't be afraid of him. He's just one person. What can he do to us? Kill him!" The first to regain their composure was the individual with the mohawk haircut.

With an angry roar, the ghouls snapped back to reality and once again revealed their fierce expressions as they lunged toward Lin Yi.

After a few exchanges, Lin Yi had already assessed the group's strength.

While these individuals possessed greater strength and speed than normal humans due to their ghoul abilities, they lacked proper training. Their attack methods were straightforward and even foolish.

The only aspect to be cautious of was their Kagune. Even the weakest ghouls could easily distort steel and penetrate stone walls with their powerful Kagune.

Even with Lin Yi's enhanced physique, he couldn't afford to take a direct hit.

Lin Yi swiftly maneuvered within the encirclement, fortunate to be in a narrow alley. The entire alley was only a few meters wide, significantly limiting the ghouls' movements.

"Just moments ago, you were so confident, but now all you can do is dodge!"

A young ghoul with short purple hair felt triumphant in his perceived victory. The purple Kagune extended from his waist, wrapping around his arm like a blade, thrusting toward Lin Yi from various angles.

Lin Yi continuously dodged and retreated, moving swiftly.

"Come back quickly! Kenjou!"

Just at that moment, the mohawked leader, positioned at the back of the group, suddenly shouted.

Lin Yi narrowed his eyes. No wonder this guy was the leader. The mohawked individual possessed keen instincts.
