Out Of The Frying Pan

Each time I used Underworld Dragon's Wrath my control over it increased. It was originally like a bucking bronco it burned me to the bone. The second time that bronco learned to begrudgingly handle a rider. The third time it seemed the flames attempted to ease their burden on me. Instead of burning me to a crisp they merely singed my hands. This was different.

A warlock's existence was understanding demons. By gaining an increased understanding I became a better warlock. I held Diabla firmly and knew she could slice through this place like a knife through butter. Mun never thought to take the senses away from my sword.

I slashed and unleashed a powerful pulse of aura. Diabla became my only source of feedback. When I moved my body, I used her senses to determine how much I moved. I raised her high and unleashed a concentrated burst of UDW(Underworld Dragon's Wrath).

Blue soul flames devoured the steel leaving slag behind. I could feel them, and they were hungry for souls. I reached out with my left hand and willed my own chain spell. "Cinder," I said though I couldn't see or hear. I felt aura shift as the creature I summoned appeared.

Aura shifted and I slashed my blade. Every slash was a killing blow. I wasn't aware of anything other than my sword and the hungry flames I'd unleashed. Then I heard a scream and the world returned to normal.

Mun screamed in agony as flames burned him. The fairy I summoned held her lantern for the world to see lighting the burning bodies of a thousand giant insects. "Dispel, blue aura surrounded Mun, but the light was still on him. Just as he gained some manner of relief they returned.

Cinder fluttered about lighting creatures with her lantern. She was a small fairy no taller than a couple feet. She looked like a teenage girl. Cinder's eyes were filled with sadism while fire fairies ran amuck burning the green houses.

Flames covered the floor. Smog made from burnt cultivation pills filled the air and many of the insects died from that alone. Mun swung his staff and golden spear tipped chains shot across the room but the fire fairies were made of flame. They twirled or spiraled around the chains while they set fire to skewered insects.

"Cinder," I called, and the lantern wielding teen turned to me. There were traces of fear on her face at the sight of my soul flames. "Good job, were you able to protect Gwen and Doppel?" I asked. She pouted at me before nodding begrudgingly. A problem for another time.

"You haven't beaten me yet. Golden Series." I couldn't allow him to use the golden series anymore. My aura flickered and Aura Rush powered up to maximum.

The distance between us wasn't great but the obstacles were numerous. Pills burned releasing powerful fumes. Insects crashed into the ground wings ablaze. Doppel and Gwen zoomed through the battlefield wielding psyblades. The bodies of insects once ripped apart spilled their guts over the ground where they cooked like long strips of bacon.

I skated over the flames, the slippery uneven roasting guts, and through the geysers of pill fumes. "G-R-A-N-D," golden aura surrounded the golden Plebe and twisted. At my current acceleration shooting a fireball would just slow me down. I knew the spell wasn't complete, the aura was still loose. This was my chance to end the fight before Mun unleashed his mightiest spell.

Why would I want that? The traitorous thought came and almost made me stumble. Wasn't I having the time of my life? My muscles were stretching, my sword arm was getting the workout it deserved, and I was growing stronger. My connection with Diabla increased with every swing. I could let this fool power up and grow stronger. Just think of the xp. The glorious xp would be incredible. But I'd have to share it with Dol.

These thoughts were my thoughts, and they arose traitorously from my mind. I'd already spent an hour preparing for this fight why not enjoy it to its fullest. Those were the thoughts on my mind.

In that moment they were logical. To the meat in my head those thoughts were very logical. The qi in my body felt differently and my own programming disagreed. I wasn't an idiot, and I knew where this road lead. A strong opponent wasn't what I needed. There was one waiting for me. That's where the real enjoyment was.

"A-R-M-A-M-E-N-T," I stabbed Diabla in his gut just as the spell chain finished forming. At that moment I wondered if I was too late. My blade sunk in but Mun was still alive. He shrieked in slow motion his words just as slow as before. Then Mun placed a golden clad hand on Diabla and pushed her out of his guts.

"Field On," a black barrier erupted from my body and smashed into Mun's golden aura. The two forces raged while Mun slowly lost territory. His feet moved half a step back. Doubt appeared in the gobling's eyes. I saw it and knew it for what it was, his own killer.

Armageddon's chainsaw revved in Mun's stomach. Sparks flew off of Mun's fingers before the gobling's eyes widened. Golden blood flowed across Diabla's blade before the gobling's fingers and thumb tore away. Mun screamed and threw himself back cradling his hand.

The digits hung on mostly limp by a few tiny pieces of flesh. Blood flowed down his arm while he stared at the wound. His golden aura weakened even more. I held Diabla high in the air showing her off.

Her long silver blade was lit by three azure halos filled with soul fire. The massive double-edged blade seemed suck in the light of the flames around it. It looked as if the blade breathed in power of heaven and earth itself. Now more than ever Diabla was like an angry Underworld Dragon.

"Is that all you have? You seemed confident about that spell. Where did that go?" I asked.

Mun's good hand shook. He wasn't hearing me. His red eyes were irrational. With his good hand he swung his staff and yelled. Yellow light shot from his staff and I side stepped it. Whatever he planned to unleash it wouldn't hit me if he telegraphed it with the wave of a staff.

"No golden chains, where did they go?" His eyes widened in shock. I'd hit some weakness of his. "I counted four syllables in that spell chain of yours. That was something else. I could have killed you four times before you got it out. You know us darklings. I was just too curious." I frowned and my aura erupted with soul fire. Mun backed away clutching his ruined hand. "I shouldn't have bothered it was a waste of time. Unless you have anything else to show me, could you stretch your neck out over there. I don't want anyone stepping in your coward's blood." I said.

Mun's eyes were wider than dinner plates and his golden aura lost its luster and took on the color of piss yellow. "No, I won't die you can't kill me. Dol won't allow it." I wondered if I'd broken him. The insects were dead, and my two girls were sneaking in to get Mun from behind.

"I will survive no matter what. I'm the one who made these pills their mine all mine." The fumes from the burning pills shot into the air over Mun. This was a second transformation. Wasn't Bas supposed to have one or was it ever other boss?

Above Mun a multicolored storm of pill fumes had gathered. My blood sung to fight this new boss. I wanted to do it too. My mettle couldn't truly be tested, unless I fought enemies who could match me. What was the point of winning if I was never challenged?

Those desires had their merit, but I wasn't going to indulge them yet. There were three whole fights left each better than this one. When transforming under duress I doubted he was thinking about defending against unfriendly spells.

"Haste, Charge, Volcanic Volatility," red aura pushed itself inside of Mun at an accelerated rate. More red aura than even I'd ever dealt with filled his body. His eyes widened then the fumes above descended upon him.

"No, what have you done?" I held my hand up and felt the connection between my aura and the red aura I'd gifted him. It absorbed what red aura existed in the fumes and increased in volatility. It acted less like an enchantment and more like a curse. Mun couldn't balance the aura filling his body. So, he screamed as they ripped him apart.

I pointed my finger and sent a spell through the connection to the Volcanic Volatility. "Blaze," I called, and the red aura stored within the enchantment erupted in flames. Mun screamed as he was burned from the inside out.
