16 Meeting

Alastair had discarded his royal attire and was now disguised as a common man. He was dressed in a white linen shirt with a broad lapel and tweed pants. He was wearing gumboots that the travelers usually wore and to make it more realistic, he had made his looks a little rugged. Although he did not feel the cold ever, he did not want to raise suspicions. So, he had paired his attire with a tweed coat that matched with his pants and fell just below his knees. All in all, he looked like a wanderer who had come to the village to seek shelter.

Even though some of the people had been present when he had come to visit Osiris, nobody had dared to lift their heads and see him, and not many people knew how the king looked. Also, he looked way different than his usual self. So, it was a benefit he had and he could walk around freely without being recognized as the king.

Alastair passed by the houses as he casually darted his eyes to see if he could find the person he needed. It was somewhere past dinner time, but there were still many people on the streets and he could see that the doors to many houses were open. He was on the other side of the village where the normal and ordinary people lived. This part mainly had farmers and other small-time merchants who did not earn much and whatever they earned was enough for them to feed their stomachs for the day.

While the other part of the village housed the aristocrats and other nobles, including the village magistrate. Though these people were not as rich as the aristocrats who stayed in proximity to the kingdom capital, they were better off compared to the farmers and the merchants.

Alastair strolled across the streets casually and once in a while he would meet other travelers like him. They would give him a small glance before leaving him alone. Alastair too did not want to have a chat with them, not when they seemed to be boring. He was more interested in finding the girl he had seen a few days ago, although it was just the eyes and her hair he had got a glimpse of.

An hour or so passed and Alastair had covered more than half of the village where the peasants and the merchants lived. But he was yet to find the face he was searching for. There was also a possibility that the girl he wanted to see desperately would not even have come out of the house if she was staying here. However, he had a hunch that she was not here. He could not feel her presence and for a second he was stunned when he realized it.

Alastair was shocked to know that he had the ability to sense her presence and this was something he had realized himself now. Anything like this had never happened before and the outcome was way too surprising and all the more fascinating to him. He could not comprehend what was happening. To him, it seemed like his powers were activating one by one and it all started after he had seen those green eyes.

The man halted suddenly and he changed his course of direction. This time, he followed the path that led to the aristocratic houses in the village. Now, his senses were on high alert as though he was searching for a priced treasure. His eyes darted everywhere trying to see if anybody looked familiar.

Compared to the other part of the village where it was bustling with activities even during the first phase of the night, this part seemed quite serene and deserted. Not many people were around and Alastair had to be careful lest the blue blood nobles assumed him to be trespassing in their lands.

Alastair had crossed the seventh house when suddenly he felt the same kind of jerk he had experienced near the window in his room a few days ago. A force was pulling him towards the mansion which seemed more opulent and splendid compared to the other mansions nearby. His eyes sparkled seeing the house and what was more intriguing was he knew who this house belonged to.

'He never told me that the person I was looking for was taking shelter in his house. How wonderful!! Looks like I'll have to have a chat with him.' He thought inwardly and gave out a sinister smile. Before he even knew, his feet took him towards the entrance, and now he was standing near the front of the gate, at a place where nobody could see him. He noticed the guards who were keeping a watch over the house and smiled once again.

'Did these people think they could stop me? How courageous of them!!' Alastair closed his eyes and in the next instant, he had teleported inside the mansion and he was now in one of the rooms that was closest to the entrance. The young king looked around and he noticed that the room was empty.

Now that he was inside, he could feel the pull stronger than ever and he assumed the girl he was looking for was very near to him. Alastair's eyes shone in excitement and they took a magnificent shade of amber before they went back to light brown. The change was for just a few seconds and he himself was stunned by the strong effect the girl was having on him when he had not even seen her, let alone know her.

He carefully took light steps towards the door and peeked out to see if anybody was nearby. When he found the coast to be clear, he left the room and went in search of the girl making sure not to alert anyone. The path was mainly clear and he only saw a few maids walking around doing their work. Not many people were nearby, so it was easy for him to hide.

Alastair again sensed a jerk and this time, it was stronger than ever and it felt as though his body was burning. He experienced a sudden surge of immense power and his head felt heavy out of nowhere. He was having difficulty breathing and sweatdrops dripped down his face, his face becoming pale as seconds ticked by. However, as always, the effect ended as fast as it had come by and Alastair's body returned to normal. There was one thing that felt different, but he could not point out what.

He followed the direction from where he was perceiving the pull when suddenly he noticed a maid who was walking in his direction. Now, he had to hide if he had to remain unnoticed. But the problem was, he standing in the middle of the corridor and there was nothing to hide behind.

Immediately, he teleported to another room and this time when he opened his eyes, he came face to face with the green-eyed girl he had been looking for. Before he could shift his eyes from hers and take a thorough look at her, the girl before he wobbled. Alastair rushed to hold her and the next second, she fainted right in his arms.
