1 Chapter 1

The fields were still not done, at least three more hours were needed, and Alec was mad, just seeing it. Every day for the last two months, it's been bending and picking till the day was done.

"Getting tired, are we Alec?" Asked Rogers, a fellow picker.

"Nope. Just felt like stretching." That was a lie, and Alec just wanted to leave; he had much more important things to do. Something he couldn't tell the old picker who hired him about a year ago.

"Don't tell me you still want to be a an S-ranker? Haha! Come on, it's likely we'll never get to be one of those in our lifetimes. Just stick to farming and find a nice girl."

"Yeah. No."

'What girls? Almost everyone in this village is at least 60 years old! No way in hell is I going to find someone here. If we were in the big city, then I could find someone, but the only thing I have here is a terrible job and an myself.'

"Whatever, Roger, let's hurry up. I want to finish and get some rest."

"Sure, sure. Hey, have you heard that the Holy Dragon is looking for someone to receive his awesome blessing?"

"..."

"You listening? Anyway, he's in the capital waiting for anyone to pull out his sword from the ground. I'd go myself if I were younger. So, what about you."

"That's not something I could do. Thanks though, Roger," Alec said, a bit crushed. He knew better than anyone that he wasn't someone with talent.

As a magic-less boy without any martial art skills, I'm stuck here as a villager for the rest of my life, but.... I plan on gaining skills without relying on my status. Hard work will be key.

When Alec finished he gave his goodbyes to everyone before heading off to train.

It was night now and Alec knew that he didn't have long. The training ground wasn't large, but was in a clearing. He quickly tossed a couple of wood and started a fire.

And then he pulled out a few wrappings for his hands. Then he swung and swung his arms against the tree trunk tensing his muscles each time.

If he had a sword he'd swing it a thousand times, but can't even afford the cheapest ones. So, he must hone his fists!!!

The fire crackled and burned until it slowly died out.

And only when the fire was out did he stop. Some people could achieve more with less time then others, and Alec hoped to one day beat all those.

Neither the gods or men that serve them were going to decide his life. Only him.

Panting and sore from his workout Alec collapsed onto the floor. He had only a moment of rest when he heard a crazed snarl surrounding him. Shocked, Alec tried to get up but he was too tired.

Slipping out from the forest a wild pack of wolves baring fangs came out.

"Damn it!" Clenching his teeth Alec screamed.

BANG! An explosion blew the wolves and the surrounding trees.

"You alright young man?"

Standing in the middle of a scattered battleground an old man dressed in gold smiled down at Alec.

Alec's jaw dropped because he recognized the man who saved him.

"The Holy Dragon."
