68 Deeper parts of Wasteland of Death

Meng spent another 20 days deciphering the Death Scripture with Yufeng accompanying him for who-knows what reason.

Meng was currently cultivating, having an amber glow with a grayish-blue outline all around him. Suddenly his energy became slightly unstable and started leaking out of his body, creating strong air currents, interrupting Yufeng who was cultivating some distance away from him. She opened her eyes and stared at him in disbelief because she just realized that she never checked his cultivation base when he was unconscious and when he already regained consciousness, it was impossible to sense it, however now that his energy started leaking, creating pressure, she discovered that he was about to enter the Sky Profound Realm.

'?! His progress in those 8 months we haven't seen each other is crazy!' Yufeng thought considering Meng's status. She knew that his small clan couldn't have many resources for him to use so all of this was his hard work! Although she was very diligent and hard-working ever since she left the Heavenly Sword Villa, she wouldn't be able to reach the 3rd stage Emperor Profound Realm without her father's resources.

In 8 months, he advanced by 2 great realms and even if they were lower realms and thus easier to advance, it was still an unbelievable feat without any expensive resources.

Yufeng's eyes were suddenly attracted towards the cave's entrance since she saw an absurd amount of sunlight gathering there as if trying to breach into the insides of the cave. Her sight immediately transferred to Meng who was still releasing his powerful energy all around him.

*Boom!*

Suddenly the density and pressure of his energy spiked up, increasing to a new level and numerous stones lying around started rising up before they dropped down once Meng took control of his energy once again.

"Finally I can fly in the skies unhindered..." Meng muttered before trying out the Profound floating technique, rising a few meters above the ground before he descended down.

"Congratulation on reaching Sky Profound Realm at such a young age, Meng" Yufeng said with a heartfelt smile. This week she spent around Meng felt like the most peaceful and calm days in her life. She spent a lot of time observing him and found out that he is very hardworking and that his success isn't just due to his talents.

"Thanks, I guess I can finally travel around more conveniently." Meng got up to his feet and started walking towards the cave's exit and Yufeng followed him with a confused expression.

"Where are you going? That is if you don't mind me asking..." Yufeng asked when she sensed as if Meng wanted to leave this place.

"First of all, I want to have a look into the deepest parts of Wasteland of Death and then I might as well take a look at the other nations" Meng replied, not intending to hide anything.

"...Would you mind if I were to accompany you on your journeys?" When he heard her question, Meng turned at her with a surprised expression, thinking it through.

Although she was qualified enough to travel with him considering her strength but still in case they encounter a rare Tyrant Profound Beast, Meng would not only have to defend himself but also protect her.

'But then again, she is from Sacred Ground so she ought to have a lot of useful information even though she just returned there 7 months ago. I can also use this chance to judge her character if I plan to be on friendly terms with her in the future, plus a traveling companion might not be a bad idea overall...' Meng thought about the disadvantages and advantages before he made the decision.

"Of course I won't mind...You are free to do whatever you want. I can't exactly stop you from following me." Meng shrugged his shoulders with a slight smile before he ascended into the sky.

Yufeng stood there stunned for a few seconds before she faintly smiled and quickly followed after him. She wanted to see what was Meng like during his adventures as she could easily see that he was the type of person who would venture anywhere just to experience new things. She knew that by following him her horizon would widen but there was also another reason.

She enjoyed Meng's company very much, maybe a bit too much. One time it was peaceful and calm and another time they were merrily chatting about the mundane things.

Meng flew directly deeper into the Wasteland of Death while massacring any sky type Earth Profound Beast that dared to attack him.

"Meng, do you have any specific location in your mind?" Yufeng caught up to him very easily and asked him with a curious expression.

"..." Meng glanced at her and deeply thought about what he should say to her and what he shouldn't until he decided to his regular answer.

"Yufeng, let's swear to each other-" But before he could even continue, he heard a shriek from right next to him.

"W-What?!" Yufeng stared at Meng with wide-open eyes and when their eyes met, she immediately looked away.

"I don't think it's approp-" She began muttering something but this time she was the one interrupted.

"Let's swear to each other that every confidential thing we say to each other will never get to the outsiders and when I say outsiders, I mean anyone but 2 of us." Meng was a bit confused why she cut him off so rudely and without any reason but he ignored it and continued. He knew that asking this was the same as saying that he doesn't trust her but he still has yet to test her character, there was no way he could have bigger trust in her than in Hengjun for example.

However, contrary to his expectations...

"Eh? Oh?! S-Sure, let's do it!" Yufeng was stunned for a second before a bright smile appeared on her face completely confusing Meng.

'She actually agreed...and with so happy expression at that!' Meng thought in disbelief before they both pricked their fingers and swore as the blood dropped down on the earth while looking into each other's eyes.

'That sounds kind of romantic...Swearing not to tell any confidential stuff to anyone no matter what...It's like all our secrets are tied up to each other.' Yufeng thought as they continued flying towards the middle. A small blush crept up her face as she kept looking down, distracted.

"Yufeng, are you listening to me?!" Meng called out to her a few times when he noticed her lack of attention.

"Uhh?! Y-Yes!"

"Good, there is a place with Phoenix Legacy other than inside the Divine Phoenix Nation. There was numerous strong profound beast concentrated in that place and this Wasteland of Death is very similar to that place. But even if it's not as I think so, I want to discover why is the concentration of profound beasts here so high and why is it that closer to the middle we get, stronger beasts start showing up." Meng explained, surprising Yufeng.

"Meng, do you perhaps have-?"

"No, I am a regular human with a pure human bloodline, at least I think so..." Meng replied with a bit of uncertainty.

"You think so?" Yufeng asked with a confused expression.

"I don't remember much about my parents. Have you never found my eyes a bit strange?" Meng asked with a raised eyebrow, giving her a good sight on his eyes.

"I am sorry...Well, red eyes aren't that unusual but I guess vertical pupils are...rarer" Yufeng replied with a bit guilty expression that she brought it up.

"Don't be...as I said previously, I have almost no memories of them." Meng replied with a smile and as Yufeng was about to tell him something, they both noticed 2 silver flashed, rushing towards them with the intention to kill them.

They both stopped talking and evaded the sneak attack before landing their eyes on 2 silver scaled Flood Dragons.

"Another batch of foolish humans coveting Dragon's God treasure...die!!!" The voice of a male flood dragon contained unimaginable hatred within.

'Dragon God? So it really is something similar to Phoenix Legacy back then' Meng thought but he had no time to think any longer as both flood dragons opened their mouths and sent fort two large vortexes of enormous tornadoes. One aimed at Meng and another at Yufeng who was standing close enough to Meng, causing both tornadoes to blend together, making them far stronger.

"Hmph!" Yufeng snorted in an upset manner and brought out her sword from the spatial ring.

'Just peak sky profound beasts dare to interrupt us when we were slowly getting to know each other on a more personal level? I will make a quick process with you!' Yufeng thought, being upset at both flood dragons. When the tornadoes got close enough, she waved her sword, releasing a slash of sword energy. The pressure of her sword intent completely cut both tornadoes apart but her attack didn't stop there and in flash traveled towards the male flood dragon who shouted at them.

"?!" Before the flood dragon was able to even cry out, his entire body got sliced in half but even after slicing through the tough scales of the flood dragon, Yufeng's attack flew about 1 more kilometer before dispersing.

The second flood dragon widened its eyes and opened its mouth possibly to curse at Yufeng but before it could utter anything an amber-colored beam of around 5 meters in radius holed through its head without any problem, instantly killing it.

"Whoa...It's really as you said...You are just at 1st stage of Sky Profound Realm yet the peak sky profound beast was unable to even react to your attack...I wonder which of our attacks were better" Yufeng said with an impressed expression before suggesting comparing their attacks with a playful smile on her face while leaning a bit close to Meng.

"...Want to try?" Meng glanced at her and asked with the same smile.

"Hmm, what an intriguing offer...maybe later" Yufeng said, now in a much better mood, completely forgetting the incident with the flood dragons.
