Detention

The rest of the day went on pretty badly. Luckily, Ms. Roberts didn't waste our time trying to question us because I could swear on my mother's sick bed that I would snap. It was the worst "First day at school ever". I could be sure my granddad would nag me when I got home. He would go on about me not listening to him and getting into trouble, as always.

I didn't bother to listen to whatever the Geography master had to say. I couldn't understand why Business students had to take at least one non business subject.

Geography was awful but easy to pass. That was the main reason I chose it. I could guarantee myself that even if I didn't attend the classes for the whole term, I would still pass the subject with an A.

Throughout the day, I was in a bad mood. Adonis tried to talk to me but what could I do with a useless boy who couldn't stand up for me instead was trying to talk after the incident. Becky didn't help matters as well.

" Pst...hey, Adonis wants to speak with you" and so I snapped at her

"Can't you see I'm avoiding him?"

"Whoa girl, relax, its just detention not a death sentence"

"Just detention!!" I screamed at her.

She tried to pacify me. "Okay....okay,fine. I get it. Let's just get this thing over and done with".

Soon enough, detention came. The teacher asked us to design hand made moral instruction posters. We were supposed to write things like 'No fighting', 'Speak quietly' and paste them all around the school premises. She provided us with some sugar paper, a pair of scissors each, markers, paints, paint brushes and other necessary instruments.

Becky and I were partners. She said to me " Lilith, you know when you stomped your feet the other time and threw a tantrum, you behaved childishly ". I ignored her but in my mind I was thinking, ' If only you knew, sweetheart, if only'.

All was well until Ms. Roberts left us alone at about fifteen minutes later. Then, all hell broke loose.

" Yo! Who're you calling 'Blondie'?"

Becky added " She even told us to scram, the audacity"

Asian puppy said " Hello, I can say whatever I want to and..."

Becky didn't let her finish before giving her a sound slap ( not a sound clap, hehe ).

Well, a fight broke out just as you thought. Tearing hairs, slapping faces and call the elements of a typical girls fight was involved. I stopped for a breather and found out Regina didn't take part in the activity. I felt so proud of her ( funny right, because I have never been proud of myself ). I decided to stop fighting. I knew that if I wanted to fulfill my dream, I had to be cultured. I had to improve my manners, adopt new morals and values. There and then, I decided to befriend Regina. Shevaas graceful, smart and popular. She also had good manners although her fashion sense was twisted. She was also very beautiful. I forgot to mention I was a face judger. I never befriended ugly people. So I went up to her and said hi.

"So, you're done fighting, huh?" She asked me.

"Look, I want to be friends with you. I love the way you carry yourself, how you act and everything. Some may say you're proud or arrogant but I think its your elegance and I want to be elegant as well".

" Be friends with you, a ruffian? "

"Actually, my name is Lilith". I could not believe I was swallowing my pride and saying this but strangely, I felt right.

She sighed and said " We'll see how it goes". I didn't forget to mention to her that I didn't want to be a part of her group and she agreed. We began to chat and I asked her why she was with the girls if her personality didn't match with theirs. She bet around the bush before mentioning something about her family.

We continued to chat until Ms. Roberts came back. She met the girls fighting and asked for an explanation. I narrated everything that transpired to her. She said she was tired of our quarrelling and simply dismissed us. I exchanged numbers with Becky and Regina and promised to call them. Instead of calling the driver to pick me up, I decided to walk home.

I walked out of the school gate and checked my phone. I saw missed calls from my grandpa and Richardo. I called my granddad first, telling him I was held back because of detention. I also told him I would be skipping training tonight. I called Richardo, asking him to meet me at the basketball court in the neighborhood.

I got to the basketball court before him and met Coach Brown. He was training some pre-teens. He came up to me and asked why I was here as training was only during weekends. I told him I was here to wait for my friend. He let me be and went to help with the young players.

Seeing them play made me miss playing with my brother. I wouldn't have to worry about saving a fallen clan or boot licking a teenager or avoiding another, instead, I would be eating ice cream instead of being on a diet, playing video games instead of shooting guns. Going for vacation instead of going to Colombia to continue my training during the holidays. I wouldn't need to worry about making mistakes as my family would be there for me instead I have to be there for the family. I would be taken care of, instead of taking care of my sick mother. It made me realise how much of my childhood I had missed.
