10 10. Blood red moon, Earth R324

Earth R324

Another horrified night passed just like that. Wait, was it even night or day? anyway that does not matter anymore. Since that day the moon, the red moon has never gone down. With it hanging in the sky, remembering us of the start of our doom on that special day, each and every second, how can the few of us remaining ever forget.

Now, we live under the surface of the earth like rats. Hold on, rats nowadays live on the surface bathing in the red glow of the miraculous blood red moon. I don't even remember the last time I went upstairs to take in a cool sweat breath. Staying here for such a long time has made us used to wonderful air in the sewers.

Luckily for us, our past leaders, may their souls rest in perfect peace, built up wide and spacious sewers which are connected under each region. So even though there are tens of thousands of people in our humble abode, and some friends managed to overcome the mental strain to successfully find partners to mass produce in other to contribute to humanity's survival.

Some offspring even have offspring now. I do not know how long it has been as no one is keeping track of the time anyway. Yet we still have enough space in here to accommodate a few more thousands or so.

Now, everyone's daily routine is quite simple as education and wealth are things of the past. We wake up to line up for food. After eating we get to the mining site. Yes mining site, this special place is what we depend on to live another day.

The mine site is a part in the earth where the sewers nice waters normally gathered and as a result created a vast moist soil several feets into the earth as these sewers were in use for a very long time before all this happened. We dig out special juicy worms in batches and sometimes due to low production, we would have to change sites as there are several mining sites here.

You might think we are losing our minds with all this, but what you do not know is that we have already lost our minds a very long time ago. We tried to several times to have a stand on our motherland but the power of the mutated animals is far above what we could defeat.

All our survival bases on the surface were taking down in a single wave.

Our weapons did no damage to those terrifying creatures that lead the mutants. We even saw stronger mutated animals that did not even participate in the fight, yet we lost overwhelmingly.

It might have been a decade or two or more since we ended up like this. Even though every team we send out to the surface never returned, we keep that up and it is not that we have not lost faith, but that helps to reduce our population.

Yes, the hard truth that no one ever spoke. Luckily and finally, it is my turn to visit the surface one last time after such a long time. Hope I can remember my way home.

'Captain, team 077 has reached the location. It have been confirmed that there are life signals similar to that of humans but they seem to be quite few and weak. Compared to the signals of the vast majority of unknown species on the planet, Earth R324.'

With a slight pause Sindy continued, 'There also seem to be an artificial force field covering the planet. I can peek into it's data when given the permission, Captain.'

"Permission granted, how long would you need to get in?", Ghengi asked. And the next second Sindy replied, 'Done.'

Settling him a little but he did not think about it much and made a self note to not let such trivial things surprise him next time.

Sindy on the other hand started to report her findings, 'Captain, it is a tier 1 force field that is powered from one of the moons closest to Earth R324. It should not be able to withstand any attack from our teams. Should I proceed?'

"No Sindy." Ghengi gave a firm command as he enlarged one of the screens from team 077.

Specifically the one showing facing the twin moons. And to his expectations, found what seems to be a space base.

There was a small base station, with several space ships at the dock. Only one medium transport ship, and thirty fighters were currently docked at the bay.

The force field generator was located at the center of the base.

After some thoughts, Ghengi ordered Sindy to get information on the base first as to know what the other party was doing.

Sindy as usual, completed the task in a few seconds and reported to him.

'From their data base, the general information here is that they are a research team assigned to monitor and report changes in their research subject. From the looks of it the possible research subject is planet Earth R324. The research team is aligned with a faction that call themselves The Creators.'

Ghengi listened carefully as she continued.

'This is how the whole research started. They infected the atmosphere of the planet with hyper infrared gas that is mixed with genetic mutation microwaves. at the same time sent a vessel field with ultraviolet gamma rays to the sun which resulted in the massive increase in the electromagnetic radiation emitted by the sun.'

'The massive electromagnetic radiation emitted by the sun directly increased the microwaves effect in the species that resides on the planet. Within a few hours, the effect and mutations started and as expected by the researchers, all species except for humans mutated.'

'The mutated creatures longed for blood of the living at the start. But as time went by, a percentage of them begun to evolve and continued to evolve as the higher they evolved, the more sentient they became.'

'Soon they completely took over the entire planet. With the emergence of higher beings, hierarchies among these creatures were formed...'

Ghengi could not help but stop her ask, "Sindy, did they just create an apocalypse. Is that even possible?"

'Yes captain, it is possible. Creating an apocalypse is common knowledge among tier 3 civilizations.

But no one really researched on them except for the unorthodox factions such as The creators.'

With a thought he knew this group is certainly not the good guys.

They used a planet filled with innocent lives as experiment subjects and probably lead to the current state of what might have been a peaceful world.
