Chapter 3

'Huh?' Daniel was startled. Luckly for him his dad and Kuikui had already left him alone with his new pokemon to play with and entered the lab. Rowlet took notice but did not think much about it.

Do I have a system or is it just a window for information that I can see?

Curious he focused on another pokemon perching on a branch of a nearby tree.

Pokemon: Pikipek

Ability: Skill link

Stage: Rookie

Mastery: Flying 19%, Normal 9%, Grass 1%

'Looks like I cannot view moves for pokemon that are not mine' Daniel concluded after testing a bit.

He then played around with rowlet before introducing himself. Rowlet looked happy with his new trainer. He then decided to enter the lab as he did not want to make his dad and the professor wait for too long.

'Wait a minute' Daniel stopped as he was about to enter the lab. 'What's with the 1% Grass mastery on the pikipeks?'

Most pikipeks had flying and normal mastery but occasionally some of them had a grass mastery. He knew that pokemon needed to be able to control certain types of energy suited to themselves to breakthrough beyond stages of natural growth. Normal mastery on non-normal types was considered normal as it wasn't a rare occurrence, which is why he ignored it when he saw it in rowlet's information. However, he did not understand why some of the wild pikipek had grass mastery. He decided to meet up with the professor before experimenting around. Unfortunately, he couldn't directly ask the professor without explaining his new 'superpower'.

After getting briefed about becoming a trainer now he returned to the pokecenter along with his dad and his new partner.

After familiarizing with his new pokemon he felt that it was necessary to set out and start training and hopefully catching some pokemon to add to his team.

"You can take my golduck for making sure you stay safe"

"By the way how long can we stay here?"

"Not very long. You need to return home if you still wish to start a small training session before your trip."

His final exams started at 15th February. If he wished to immediately register for the pokemon league after the exams ended, he needs to at least be a newbie trainer. The pokemon league was divided into 3 division, each one with its own difficulty in terms of gym battles. The master division was a free for all competition with almost no restrictions. The senior division was limited to trainers under the age of 25. Finally the junior division, the tournament restricted to trainers of the Kanto region under 15 was what Daniel aimed to participate in.

In order to successfully get 8 badges of any division one had to travel all around the region and challenge gyms at their respective difficulty.

Getting all batches between the time the exam ended and the league started was possible but very difficult, especially because the junior division was the first to start, followed by the senior and master division.

However, there was a way to shorten this time with the help of a school trip in January where they took students to visit 3 gyms in order to show how they worked. During this time students were allowed to challenge gyms at the junior level ahead of time. This trip could allow exceptional trainers to get a head start in their journeys while it allowed other students to experience low level gym battles.

This unfortunately gave Daniel just over 3 months before the trip. Luckily his grass type starter could help him a lot in the first two gyms.

"Don't worry dad, rowlet would be ready for the gyms before you know it."

After assuring his father Daniel left for his very first training session.
