1 Death is calling me

Zhang abruptly shot up from his tiny mattress with holes on it when he heard the loud banging on his worn out wooden door.

It was the landlord again, he thought inwardly as he grunted in frustration while hauling his feet away from the bed towards the door.

He opened the door but the grumpy short chubby man barely let him speak, not that he wanted to, he was exhausted of the hellhole he called life.

"Where is my money? You said you'd pay by the end of last month and then this month, don't forget you're owing me for six months!" The chubby man snorted out with a profound frown etched on every corner of his face.

"Ahh, I'm sorry I'll..."

"Don't tell me you're sorry, I need my money! It's not a fucking charity." The man raved, his triple chin vibrating as he spoke.

"The only cash I have is for feeding I don't have any other money if you could just wait until next month...."

"Really? Get packing you little Trump! Leave by tonight if you won't pay me my rent or I'm calling the police!" The man threatened before banging the door harshly in his face.

Zhang sighed in exasperation as he dug his fingers into his rough curly hair, pushing them backward to reveal his bony face with cheek bones sunk into his face from malnutrition and lack of good food or any food at all.

His life had drastically turned into a living nightmare after his parents drastic demise, leaving not much for him as they were a low class family. He was only six when he was given the life changing news that his parents had died in a fatal car accident.

He was taken from one foster care to the other until he was eighteen and left to fend for himself as he was then considered an adult, no foster parents had fully adopted him as their own because he acted weird and to make it worse, he wasn't exactly a good looking kid.

He had a nest of curly hair, his tiny monolid eyes grey eyes looked like it was buried inside his socket, none of his physical features were pleasing which made his life even more agonizing as no girl would want to be with an unattractive gopher and the fact that he couldn't even afford a date contributed to his miserable life.

His relationship life and financial life was at point zero, to say he had a manageable life was overrated, stray dogs lived a better life than he did.

His scrawny figure sprawled on the worn out chair which creaked as he sat on it, wondering what he could do to make his life transform a bit for the better but he knew no matter how hard he tried, without money he was worthless, no good level of education to get him working into a nice place, apart from scrubbing floors and washing plates it was a no good.

He moved to a small drawer near the bed and took out the thin wad of cash that was seated inside it, it was enough to pay the landlord for at last three month rent but if he gave him everything, he would be left with nothing.

What was the point of his continuous existence, his mere presence was a hassle to people so what was the point of living in a world that had decided to make his life a living hell?

With a heavy sigh and drooped shoulders in defeat, he took the thin wad of cash and exited his tiny apartment.

The skies were dark and the cold evening air pricked his skin as he was wearing only a thin jacket while he proceeded to his landlord's apartment.

He rang the doorbell and it was barely a minute when he did, the door swung open.

"I'm sorry, I could only afford to pay for three months." He said with a hoarse voice as he stretched his hand with the cash but the landlord harshly grabbed the money for him before slamming the door in his face.

Life and people treated him like shit, a piece of worthless garbage so he would give them what they wanted, he would cease to exist at least he would have no worries about living anymore, and he would finally be at peace.

He wondered why he hadn't considered it in the first place, it was an escape from his torment called living, no one to mourn him and nothing to live for, he would be more at comfort if he died.

He walked down to the seashore near his place, fortunately, there was no onlooker present to witness his end.

He moved closer to the ocean and he stood still for a moment, gazing at the ocean as the dim moonlight shone down on it and the body of the ocean glimmered, it was a captivating sight and the last he would see though he did not regret it.

He was about to immerse himself into the water that glistened under the moonlight until he saw an object lying on the sand with light reflecting on it from the moon.

Curiosity hit him and he halted on his suicide mission to take a look at the object that lay on the seabed. He moved closer to it and observed the object closely to realize it was just a book half buried underneath the sand.

He rolled his eyes as he wanted to walk away and continue with his end but he stopped when the book intrigued something inside of him, he was curious to know the contents so he picked it up, dusting the grains of sand that had half buried it.

He read the book cover which stated 'The Villain Vampire Gods' The book title piqued his interest enough to open it and read the synopsis.

The synopsis was centered around the four villain vampire gods and the adventures they encountered. Wanglei was the first then Yingying, then Lai, and lastly, Zhulong were the four vampire brothers. They were defined as being influential, powerful, insanely affluent and also ruthless villains.

He sighed in frustration, then shut the book closed, he didn't come over there to read a book and delay his end, so he shoved the book aside and moved closer to the waves before immersing himself inside slowly.

The cold water came in contact with his body and he shivered at the ice temperature of the water which felt like a thousand ice daggers penetrated through his skin but he continued moving forward until he was fully immersed in the water.

He found himself quickly drowning in the water, it was dark inside and chilly, he felt his whole body go numb quickly from the chilly temperature.

He could feel his lungs contracting as he struggled to breathe, it was unbearable for him as he felt the life draining from his body, he struggled one last time in a weak effort before he fell limp, he could feel it, he could feel death calling him in an irresistible tone and he embraced it even though it was as cold as ice.

His eyelids slowly closed as he sank deeper into the dark depths of the ocean lifeless. He succumbed to an infinite void of darkness and nothingness.

He realized the saying was true, that in the process of death, a person's whole life flashed across their eyes and he did, he could see his parents whose memories had almost faded away from his head with only a fragment lingering in his memories to remember them by, but as he succumbed into the hands of death, he could see their faces vividly and his whole life flashed in front of him.
