Recruitment

Not long after, a man walked in, looking like a sophisticated white-collar worker, carrying a briefcase. He appeared somewhat annoyed, tearing off his tie and grabbing a beer bottle, which he promptly chugged.

Walking up to the desk, he pulled out a document and glanced at it for a couple of minutes before realising there was someone sitting next to him.

"Who?!" He was taken aback, reaching for the drawer as if to grab a gun.

Daisy extended her hand, sending a shockwave that shattered half the desk, revealing her emergence from the shadows.

"Mr. Wesley, long time no see," she revealed her true identity.

He initially seemed puzzled and then recognition flickered in his eyes. He looked at the desk, then back at her. "It's you. Are you a mutant?"

She immediately denied, "No, just an ordinary super-powered individual. Like I mentioned last time, Mr. Wesley, you're talented, and it's a shame to see you mixed up with the underworld."

James Wesley's lips curled into a mocking smile, as if he found Daisy to be an inexperienced young person.

He had seen plenty of people who thought their powers gave them control over everything. Daisy seemed to sense his thoughts and continued, "Perhaps you think I'm naive, but I have to say, the one who hasn't seen the bigger picture is you, along with someone behind you, someone who has been in Spain these past few days... Mr. Wilson Fisk."

"How do you know all this?" He didn't deny, but asked in return.

Of course, I knew it from the storyline, but Daisy couldn't say that. She continued to feign depth, "Mr. Fisk is your good friend. Your friendship is commendable. You're willing to do anything for him, and he'd kill anyone for you. Am I wrong?"

He neither nodded nor shook his head. She pressed on, "However, Mr. Fisk has left New York. He's evading a major police operation. He needs at least a few years before he can return. Are you willing to keep waiting in New York, or are you ready to take action?" She stared directly into his eyes.

"I don't believe you."

Daisy smiled radiantly, "You have to believe. You've seen my powers, so you can only stand with me unless you want to meet your demise."

"Even if you don't care about your own life, you wouldn't want to jeopardise Mr. Fisk, right?" She finished, softly relaying a foreign address.

"What? Say that again?" James Wesley's face was filled with astonishment. He even thought he had misheard.

They were an energetic social organisation, always the ones making threats.

"Do this for us if you don't want your family to be affected," and variations of this sentence had been uttered by Mr. James Wesley hundreds of times in his short thirty years of life. He never thought that one day he would be threatened in return.

He found himself chuckling. "Maybe I'm powerless against you, but Mr. Fisk is different."

Daisy extended her hand, creating a ripple of energy toward his heart.

An invisible force clamped onto James Wesley's chest. He felt like he was about to suffocate in the next second, his face turning red as he struggled to breathe. But the oxygen couldn't make it past his heart, as if blocked.

Daisy retracted her power. "In my eyes, there's no difference. I'm not asking you to betray him, just to assist me while he's away. Does that violate your principles?"

"Mr. Fisk despises mutants!" James Wesley took off his glasses, holding his chest, and slowly managed to stand up.

"That's because he's not a mutant."

Daisy saw this clearly. Those anti-mutant senators, citizens, even J. Jonah Jameson, if they themselves were mutants, they wouldn't speak that way.

James Wesley lowered his head, pondering. In reality, he envied mutants himself, though he wouldn't say he was hostile.

"I have a few conditions."

"Speak."

"I won't do anything that betrays Mr. Fisk."

"The tasks I have in mind are legitimate business and unrelated to him. I can agree to that."

"I won't be a subordinate, I want to be a partner."

"That was the intention from the start. I can agree to that."

"Once Mr. Fisk returns to New York, I'll leave you and go back to him."

Daisy raised an eyebrow. She thought of herself as Cao Cao and James Wesley as Guan Yu, but she agreed to these three rules, or a "Three Chapters Agreement" as Daisy playfully thought of it. Time could change someone's thinking. Wilson Fisk's return to New York would take a few more years, and those years of glory would erode the friendship between him and James Wesley.

Ultimately, James was a vain person who enjoyed admiration. He would prefer to be in the limelight rather than handling the dirty work of the criminal world.

"Alright, now that we're partners, let me explain the current task." Daisy explained the advantages of Big Data.

As an elite, James Wesley had a diverse range of knowledge. He quickly saw the potential of Big Data, a genius concept that was more appealing to him than Wilson Fisk's straightforward demolition projects.

He got into character quickly and mused, "It seems this Big Data can only be applied to large corporations and government institutions?"

Daisy nodded, "That's going to be your future task: dealing with government officials and major corporations. As a high-achieving graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, Mr. Wesley, you should excel in communicating with such people."

The presentation was impressive. But when he learned that the company had only a few thousand dollars in its account, his enthusiasm waned.

"So, that's why I need you to pave the way, to gain market recognition for my product." Daisy said matter-of-factly.

James Wesley considered carefully before asking, "If some targets are resistant, would you resort to unconventional methods?"

Daisy chuckled, "Mr. Wesley, your way of thinking is dangerous. Do you truly believe this country lacks the means to resist? It's just that the upper echelons don't want to intervene. If they wanted to, they could send a few elite agents to wipe out your organisation."

Daisy checked her watch, handed him a note, and said, "It's quite late today. If you haven't changed your mind by tomorrow, you can come to this address to find me. If you do change your mind, then I'll be the one seeking you out."

With that, she gestured at his heart, pushed open the door, and walked out.

There was a seventy-percent chance he would agree to cooperate. Daisy kept her seismic powers active, sensing his initial annoyance, worry upon seeing her, and the gradual shift from hostility to compromise. It all flowed naturally.

Starting her second-hand Ford, just as she turned the ignition, she sensed a powerful frequency abruptly appear in her perception. Before she could react, the car door on the other side swung open, and a tall figure got in.

The newcomer was tall, clad in a black leather trench coat, and wore an eyepatch over his left eye. He was completely shrouded in black, reminiscent of a soy-marinated egg.
